Discord Channel that Actually Works?

Open for DW2...
There are currently more players in Fleetcomm than in Open, so your chances of meeting other people in Fleetcomm are much better than in Open.

A lot of those people who fly in Open around the DW2 fleet also have one aim only in mind (and the ships outfitted for that purpose): kill as many other ships as possible. See the Distant Ganks 2 threads.

Wings (or Squadrons) don't come in to that. They're competely optional. I'm not in any wing or squadron, and still usually can't move inside a station for all the other players around (in Fleetcomm). Wings can be useful for pulling people into a specific instance (for mass jumps e.g.) or for increasing payouts in bounty hunting, or specialized roles in mining.

So, if you want PvP and have your ship outfitted for that, play in Open if you like - but you'll be chased and probably killed by some very single minded PvPers. And don't complain afterwards. Otherwise, use Fleetcomm, Mobius or any other friendly private group.

Fair enough. Well, my ship is not at all suited to PvP combat, and my piloting skills even less so. In fact I still consider it a win to make it through the mail slot without incurring damage :D

As it is I would very much prefer to fly in Fleetcomm but am struggling to work out how to do it???. To be honest I'm still kind of struggling to even understand what it actually means to even fly "in FleetComm" in the first place. I'll look into Möbius though, hopefully I'll have more luck on that side ;)

OK...."Flying in Fleetcomm, Mobius or any other private group (PG)"...

Apologies for the egg sucking but when you press start in the menu to play the game you have 3 options (well 2 if you are not part of a PG), OPEN, SOLO or a private group you are a member of.

Imagine these options to fly in are servers (using the word server very loosely as they are all linked to the main core of the game)

OPEN - anyone form all over the world can "Fly" as in play in this server, PVP, PVE and any other form of playing is allowed, no exceptions.
SOLO - Only you as a real live person will play in this, there are still NPC's and all the events of the main game are available as in the community goals etc, but you will not see other real players.
Private Groups - These are servers setup for a specific role ie Mobius, Fleetcomm etc are strictly PVE only, any "Ganking by players will be reported on and kicked out of the PG. Some are PVP only and so on.

So, as you are not part of a PG yet, i would suggest you fly in solo until you get into a PG.

Why dont we play in Open - We are currently being shadowed by a group of players that do nothing apart from prey on players with one intent, to kill them for their own glory or whatever. As DW2 is a huge community driven project, these gankers have taken it on to hunt us down and claim glory for killing us. These players are in Open and stalk us. If you play in open and you are spotted, you will be hunted, interdicted and shot at with the intention to kill.

Dont see this as a bad thing, it's Open and that's allowed in this game. See it as a shadow following, a dangerous element that if you are in Solo or a PG they will be only one step away from us but not able to take that step.

hope that helps...

Right, that does help.

That is largely what I had kind of thought but you have made it clear.

When you say "Why dont we play in solo - ..." did you mean "Why dont we play in open - ..."? Anyway, I have applied to both FleetComm and Möbius, so hopefully I'll receive an invite soon.

And thank you all for your guidance, it's much appreciated.

I don't know if you caught it in the replies but FleetComm is closed. The admins were overwhelmed by the response so they've clammed up and shut down. It doesn't look like you will be able to get into FleetComm PG anytime in the near future and they've stopped their discord server from accepting new connections or giving out new permissions. If you weren't ready by Launch day (almost 2 weeks ago now) then you're pretty much screwed as far as getting in with the main groups of people. Unfortunately, your best bet is to find other people in the same situation as you (there's hundreds of players in your situation right now) and group up with them and just follow along where the DW2 event goes. You can't just apply for the PG, you have to sign up on the fleet roster first, which is also closed. They have been telling people to apply to the Mobius PG, which is fine, but if you can't get into their discord to coordinate with them then you might as well just be in solo or with a friend on your own discord and PG.

At some point in the future, you are supposed to be able to get into FleetComm PG and Discord. Like I said though, at least as of a few days ago when I was last on their Discord, the admins havne't given any updates as to when they will reopen. The only person I've interacted with that is a DW2 admin is Sajime (i think i spelled that right) and even she has no idea what they are going to do. She was helping run the mining fleets.

In fact, the situation got so bad that the bulk of the mining that was done by the people who actually made it into their discord before it was locked was all done in a different PG because a lot of people were able to get into the discord but never made it into the PG so there is an unofficial secondary PG, which you also won't be able to participate in bc it's organized via the FC discord.

My best advice to you is just be patient and hope they open things back up soon and in the meantime find some other people like yourself who are locked out and ya'll fly together until you're able to get in.

Yes, applications to Fleetcomm PG and Discord are open again.

Also, for me there is no alternative for flying in Fleetcomm. Its the home of the explorers.

I applied to Fleetcomm on the 14th or 15th of Jan (before they closed applications) but I have not heard anything back. I have no idea how things are going but am hoping I will hear something at some stage.

Well that is pretty much what I am trying to do, and is largely the purpose of this thread, but unfortunately I am not having much luck as of yet ;)

Oow, oow. I finally managed to get the Google Docs spreadsheet to load and see I have made it on the list with Roster# 13789.

The "Private Group" option in the "Start" menu still says "You do not have an active private group" but it definitely feels like progress :) :)

So I've applied to both Möbius and FleetComm and see that my registration to FleetComm at least seems to have been accepted however when I log into the game the "Private Group" option in the start menu still says "You do not have an active private group". Is there something more I am meant to do or does a group just become available in time?

I don't mean to be inpatient it's just that it's been a few weeks and other than seeing my name in the list I haven't received any response and I'm just not sure that I am doing the right thing.

Thanks,
Slarti.

Can you PM me your CMDR name? I don't see your forum name in the Fleetcomm application list.

So far as I can tell I'm still yet to receive an invite from any private groups. What do they look like when they arrive?

I keep logging in, selecting "Start" and checking the "Private Group" option but it always says "You do not have an active private group". Do groups just appear once you are accepted or is there another step?

EDIT: By the way, I do seem to be able to get into the "FleetComm HQ" chat rooms on Discord now, which is nice. So I've finally been able to hear others playing (which is actually surprisingly fun) now I just need to get into a community group ;)
