I can't see there being one in gamma, as that is pretty much the finished game with any remaining bugs cleared up as it goes along.

^that's why i said 'maybe a wipe in gamma' - trying for both accuracy and not to get anyone's hopes up, i can imagine people being quite disappointed if they thought there was definitely no wipe in gamma and then a massive exploit was discovered making a wipe mandatory.

It makes sense to have a full reset for gamma.

Its a beta,
half the game is missing,
Prices will completely change.
Balance will change.
You have rankings to consider, you already have 1,000 kills but are harmless or would they have to boost you to dangerous.
Difficulty will completely change.
the rules will completely change.
Everything will change.
The beta was not intended to be a head start.
The beta is too incomplete and too different to what the final product will be it will be like continuing your save and stats from X3 and carrying them over to Elite.

It depends what they do, and how they view the gamma. If those that have paid for the final game get allowed into gamma, then they'll be pretty annoyed that there was a wipe during it.

I understands but, from the beginning, Frontier should have made the distinction between the gamma and the retail version. To acquire or to lose of material goods, reputation etc. same on small bugs, is not irreproachable

A wipe at the end of the gamma, of course

I voted yes, but changed my mind.

Only if the gamma changes quite alot from release. I would be happy for a reset, I just dont think I could handle the forum rage that would follow if they had to do it all again. :)

My thoughts are, if we want people to join the multiplayer and want to stay, we need to level the playing field at the beginning. Starting with Anacondas and pirating all the new Sidewinders on launch day/week would probably lead to some rage quitting and hamper the growth of the game community, which seems like it's what we're all going for, right?

Cmdr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Wipe

I chose no opinion. I don't particularly want to see a wipe just to clean the slate for release but I won't be upset if that's the road FD decided to go down. If a wipe is needed for development reasons, no objection to that either.

I'm relatively new to the game, so I don't think I can accurately call if I will feel it should be a yes to a wipe or not. However, whether a wipe happens or not I can't say I'll be upset because it'll put everyone on the same level in time for retail (not in the form of skill of course) and starting from the bottom and taking that climb is something I find rewarding.

I voted no because gamma is meant to be a soft release and I and many other backers have gone through several wipes. Have no real complaint about Beta wipes but there comes a time when we start getting frustrated about losing our efforts.

I'd expect those who bought the retail game to have access for Gamma and now we have 10s of thousands of players I think its right to set a point in time where we can officially start working on real progress in the game.

Short of there being an absolute game breaking catastrophe a wipe after gamma wouldn't be something I'd be very happy about. :)

Gamma is sort of day 1 launch as everyone is allowed in at that stage.

The Gamma will be the stage that alot of people confused this stage for. The game but with possibly more bugs.

The gamma is the beta.

A wipe at the end of Beta is acceptable, Gamma though is a sort of soft release version with ongoing long term testing and bedding in- so no I wouldn't like that, having to wait for months and months to play the game properly doesn't appeal at all.

What he said ^

FD have always been crystal clear on this so not sure what the point of the topic is tbh. If there are no balance breaking bugs then there will be no wipe however FD reserve the right too if a huge glitch is found.

With this in mind, a wipe just for the sake of a wipe even if there are no balance breaking bugs in the gamma would be stupid imo. Every elite gamer has the option to get in at gamma at no extra cost, if they choose not to that is on them, otherwise what next, a wipe 12 months from now if the game goes on steam as that would only be fair to the new gamers???
