I'm really happy FD aren't compromising to get the final release out. They wouldn't have that option if they had a major publisher breathing down their necks, like Ubisoft.

Before IL2 Cliffs Of Dover was released in '11, I spent up big on parts for a powerful rig to play it, and Track IR 5. The publisher had pushed the 1C to release it way too early - the game was unfinished and a mess. Glad that's not going to be the case here.

that doesn't mean that there will not be big BANG on 20th September, like 10m credits for everyone to play and celebrate Elite's birthday before final wipe ;)

The proper way to celebrate 30th anniversary would be to BANG! and everybody starts at Lave with 100 credits and a Cobra MK III. :p

Progress wipes

Good to know there will be progress wipes, I shouldn't get too attached to my current progress and use the beta as an opportunity to learn how the game works.

There's a very good chance there will be a second beta phase yet.

With previous updates within the same version (PB1 to PB2 for example) I believe they reset everyone but allowed users to keep any funds they had.

I will consider it a minor miracle if this game sees a 2015 release. More likely 2016. Late 2016. And for those that think Alpha backers are going to receive any significant "reward" for stepping up to the plate early, you should prepare for disappointment. We are seen as little more than insects fit only for fodder or swatting.

I wouldn't be so pessimistic :)

Back when I was still writing code for a living, there were phases of development - In the early stages, very little seem to be "getting done". Most times it's "fire fighting" - we're squashing bugs left and right.

And, there would come a time when we finally got all the "core routines" down and then, features start getting added at a pretty accelerated speed, and then finally the UAT (User Acceptance Tests) would be scheduled a couple of months from when we finally got the core routines stabilised.

So, assuming FD gets the "core mechanics" to where they want it, it's just a matter of "fleshing out" the game and adding minor details (to increase enjoyment of the game of course)... and I really hope they're close to, or already are, planning for the "fleshing out" phase instead of still being at the "fire fighting" phase.

I too have been around the block. Case in point, I participated in the Star Trek Online Beta a few years ago. That game was exponentially larger and more complex than this one, even from the start. Also, the STO progression from Beta to Gold was comparability quick. I paid hundreds of dollars to get in early, but the end product was, essentially, garbage. That said, at no time did I feel the STO dev's were deliberately sabotaging the process, or intentionally frustrating the player base. That is exactly what I feel is going on with Frontier. I feel the dev's are, through action or inaction, focusing on areas that the players may not really care much about, and worse, dev's are "fixing" things that were not broken to begin with. On top of it all, the misery goes on for weeks. As of now, I have paid hundreds of dollars for a game I can not stand playing. I again assert that, if the current level of absurdity persists, this release has the potential to become another Rome II fiasco.

Really surprised at the poll results so far.

Not really, as some have said that they voted yes by mistake because they didn't fully understand what gamma was, or mistook the poll for a beta wipe one. The first post in this thread gives that impression, and the poll was added later for some reason and not put into a new thread.

Some have said that gamma is a "soft release" and completely different from beta. This is true. Gamma is a more finished version that has had all the major bugs dealt with. Any bugs that remain in the gamma aren't serious and can be dealt with without the need for wipes.

Player stats reset for final?

Hi there.

I'm an alpha backer, following development since end of 2012.
Now, since beta 1 I've started to spend more hours in the game which I really like.
So I have ONE question:
are the player stats again reset when final arrives?
Since I'm cutting out time for playing ED I'd not continue now if they are.
If not, jey, I'll continue playing towards buying the Cobra which I'm half way.

As mentioned above the stats will be reset, but...

Now is a great time to learn the game; trading, fighting, best ship/weapon specs and build up your skills that the new players won't have when they start.

Last stats reset ?

Sorry in advance if this has already been covered - but I have been away for a month or two - and noted all of my stats have been reset.

Can anyone confirm when there was the last stats reset ?.

Thanks
