Disengage Supercruise

So has everyone surely knows, the tutorials aren't very helpful, so most of the game is trial and error for me. After figuring out how to go hyperspace and supercruise, I'm having trouble getting out of the supercruise. Getting tired of zooming past destinations. Any help? Thanks

you need to cut your speed well in advance, and keep your eyes on how many light seconds you got to your target.
you got a indicator in your speed bar that shows you the most optimal speed, its the orange marking in it,
try and keep your "speed thingy" (sorry its late here and i lost the word) in the middle of the orange marked area when you are about 6-7 light seconds away from the target.
if you are on a good approach you will see that the light seconds will stay the same as you slow down and eventually you will get the "safe to disengage" message.

there is also more advanced methods such as using gravitational pull from planets to slow you down. but i would start whit the basics first :)

Ah you mean actually dropping out? You're not over-shooting due to too much speed, you're over-shooting due to not knowing which button to press to drop out into normal flight?

Sorry man don't know that. =(

Alternatively, you can keep your speed dial in the blue zone on the throttle( inner blue curve next to the throttle bar), from my experience, this allows you to reach your destination more effectively as when you approach, it automatically reduces your speed the nearer you get. Since doing this, I haven't overshot any of my destinations in super cruise. :)

This does in turn make your trips a little longer, but you're almost guaranteed not to overshoot your destination doing it this way.

Also when in the 6-7 second range keep your throttle indicator in blue plus in blue zone and it will auto slow down.

When you target and start your approach towards a systemyou will see a timer on the lowest portion on the target icon. Keep that time above 0:05 when heading towards a stationand you woll never overshoot. Get within 1.0 mm and disengage drive.

I actually started have trouble because I'd exit supercruise at about 1.5 or 1 away because I would be within the planets rings. And of course I still had like 1 on the distance but in the normal speed it's impossible to get there so I literally have to supercruise for like 5 more seconds to fully reach it

just tap Y to exit super cruise.

BINGO! That is the button I use. The system will give you the SAFE indication when you get below 1Mm distance from target destination.

But I am still finding the speed adjustments in Supercruise kind of strange. The system always warns you to slow down when you are far too close to the target to do so with out overshooting. I would think the SLOW DOWN warnings should appear much sooner to give you enough time to lower your speed.

think we got 2 systems to use default and ... ummm lol something else.....Classic maybe? I dunno which one is set for me... prob custom

for me its also hold A and up on the D-pad, should give some praise to the devs who added in this system of holding down a button for a sub menu im getting very adjusted to it now flicking my my lights and gear for landings :) well done, now get some way for me to use all thrusters when im landing and ill never look back at my old PC setup.

I have not played the Xbone version, but I am guessing the OP's problem is that the disengage button doesn't drop you out above a certain speed. If you are going too fast, you cannot safely disengage supercruise, and as such pressing the button displays a warning instead of dropping you out. You can override this by double tapping the disengage button, but you will take some hull damage when you drop out, and it will drop you exactly at your current position, rather than anything in range and locked onto. To drop out normally, you need to be going less than 1Mm/sec, and then disengage.

When supercruising, to start off you can set your throttle to maximum. When you start to get close and the time to destination starts shooting down to about 9 seconds, decrease your throttle so the throttle indicator needle sits in the middle of the blue zone on your throttle. This blue zone is the optimal speed setting to help you avoid overshooting the target. When it is in the blue zone you will find your speed keeps reducing automatically as you get closer to help stop you overshooting. When you are closed enough to drop out of supercruise ( hold A then press up on Dpad with default controller settings ) you will find your speed has automatically adjusted slow enough for you to safely exit super cruise. The key is to get the throttle into the blue zone at about 8 or 9 seconds from your destination. Leave it too late and your speed will start shooting back up with your throttle having no effect, causing you to start overshooting. If this happens turn away from your target and set the throttle to zero but stay in super cruise. When you have slowed down, turn back and throttle up to the blue zone.

I've followed all the above all the time.. throttle in the blue, aim for the station but quite a lot of the time I get "SLOW DOWN" messages and then overshoot... its about 50:50 that it happens ... am I doing something wrong?

I tend to put my throttle in the lowest part of the blue any higher it tends to overshoot me.
