Back at home, to friends, of an expedition I speak.
To which they reply: what do you mean it took weeks?
That's such a long trip, but what do you do?
Well sit back, grab a drink and let me tell you.
Of the places I've been and the things I have seen.
Of a journey beyond your bubble borne dreams.
Stars beyond counting, seventy thousand light years!
I soon realised I should have brought along more beers.
From tiny rocks to blue marbles: my name is out there.
Discoveries for science! Inscribed with great care.
I touched the galactic ceiling, going as high as I dared.
I've landed upon The Mighty (and wasn't even scared)
Hell, I've crashed into things you've never even seen!
From moons to black holes: there's scratch marks where I've been...
Course I got patched up by a friendly Hull Seal.
Then raced reckless pilots, in SRV's with great zeal.
Took a trip to Colonia and had a drink at the bar.
And saw the Great Annihilator, which wasn't very far.
Even learned to fly that neutron highway, so dangerous and bright.
And jumped in formation, contrails burning in the night.
And of that great station... well what can I say?
Surely each one of us made history that day.
Ships by the thousand, ore by the million ton!
A challenge beyond scope, in unity we won.
And now in sight of Sagittarius A
Does rest a place for explorers to stay.
Now at long last, Beagle Point: the final test!
But I start to wonder: what about the rest?
All I have done, all I have seen...
What else can compare to the places I've been?
I left with barely enough to pay the insurance shark
And now have almost a billion to spend on a lark!
I could retire in luxury or buy the ship of my dreams.
But I'm left questioning what it all means.
After seeing Distant Worlds, you ask me to go back?
Nah, not for me: I'll be out here in the black!
