I wasn't here for the first and I missed the second, but third time is the charm. Looking forward to participating, RL allowing, of course :)

What a time to be alive, recently made my way back to the bubble after taking a hiatus from Elite at the end of Distant Worlds 2.

Alex Traut, DWE-98, reporting in.

The first and second DWEs were among the greatest experiences of my gaming life. I wear the decals on almost every ship of mine.

If DWE3 goes forward, I would be over the moon--every single one of them along the way. It would be nice for exobiology to be at least one focus of the expedition, and stunning sights of course. Would be good to canvass the community for POI suggestions.

I played in beta, but life got in the way and I only came back last year. I read about DW2 and it seemed like an amazing event. With the recent invasion of Sol, I had a great time, feeling like part of a bigger goal, seeing the whole community engaged and learning a lot of new stuff. I am definitely in for DW3 if it happens, from what I've read about DW2, my love for exploration and the fun I had with recent goals, it sounds like something I wouldn't want to miss :)

I was there on console for Distant Worlds 2 in my Anaconda, 2VY-DW. It was some of the most fun I've had in Elite. I've since moved to PC, and would absolutely love to partake in another expedition across the galaxy!

I've been playing since launch and the time around DW2 has some of my most nostalgic Elite memories. For me that time was peak Elite. My playing time has waned in recent years but I would be back in a heartbeat for a DW3 event!

For me I would much prefer something along the lines of DW2 over a more casual DW1. I think it would be key to have Frontier on board and tie in the event to the games narrative with events and CGs etc. it would be massive for community engagement. Really hope they will be up for this.

It would also be awesome if it also went in hand with some exploration updates to the game. Exploration has been relatively neglected with very few changes to the galaxy or mechanics since DW2. Again it will be up to Fdev but adding some new spacey things to find and see would really fire up the exploration community

In summary yes let's do DW3, but really it would be much preferred to have Fdev on board to aim for the scale of DW2.

Participating in a proper expedition has been on my bucket list since I heard about those.
I played ED pretty much from the beginning, but took a hiatus shortly after Horizons came out (until needing a way to get away from things in 2020 brought me back), after experiencing some kind of burn-out from a solo exploration trip. I guess going with others would have prevented that.
So, I'd definitely be interested.

Yes, I would absolutely join. And I will try to convince several of my friends who are newer to the game to join also. Been playing since Dec 2015 but was too nervous to commit my unengineered Diamondback Scout to DW1...alas when DW2 rolled around I didn't even hesitate, as soon as I could I signed up. Not sure how many miles I put on my Cutter, 0DE-DW, but the Gutamaya service personnel were not pleased with the state of the paint job when I returned!

As far as the Fleet Carriers, the only way to actually prevent it would be for FDev to get involved unfortunately. Maybe, next January, Brewer Corp will discover a major, previously undiscovered flaw with the Drake-class carriers and recall all back to the nearest carrier vendor (Bubble or Colonia) for maintenance that coincidentally will take about 3-4 months, after which the carriers will return to their locations beforehand. FCs could still be used/jump but they would have to remain near a vendor (500-1000LY) during the period. CMDR owners will be compensated by Brewer for the inconvenience, no weekly upkeep during this time, and the carrier transporting itself to/from the vendor for maintenance won't use any tritium. For whatever reason, a few DW carriers will conveniently not need this maintenance, letting them operate with no issue.

Just my idea on how to eliminate the issue of Fleet Carriers for the expedition in a reasonably lore-friendly way.
