Distant Worlds 3 - A Decade of Exploration and a New Journey?

I'm in. I had a spectacular experience in DW2 - one that really expanded my interests in the game. I'm no longer afraid to venture 'into the black', it's now an old friend. I'd love to see a DW3 help others to gain that feeling, alone, independant, pioneering, and alone (well, sometimes). Something not available in any other game anywhere.

if not mentioned before the devs made a arrangment on the dw2 that if youre ship was ganked while on the dw2 (yes they were out there) they would put you back in the position you were at .somebody confirm if im right as im not 100 % sure if im right.cheers.

All you'd have to do to avoid that, is to bring a single carrier with you we all dock at, and this carrier follows behind the group

Well, as somebody who backed E: D, missed DW1, but participated in DW2 (and some other player-driven explorations), my plan was to get back into E: D this year anyways (after some hiatus from Odyssey after the Thargoid thingy started). So I guess it's time to dust off the good old DW2 ship, the "RCS Quaero Aes" (or to get my good old Cobra MK IV "RCS Fabian GvB", short for "RCS Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen", out of storage).
I of course could also use my second account, Vincent La Vache, with which I did the Small Worlds Expedition 2, and upgrade my good old exploration Adder "Beag Ialtag" — we'll see.
As such, and unless "Real Life"™ comes in my way, I'll be on the roster for sure! ;)

Edit: In case you wondered - that Type 7 was outfitted for the mining CG, and still had a jump range of 46.07 (fully fueled, 49.14 unladen)).

Sign me up! I had a great experience in DW2 and would have never travelled to Beagle Point by myself. Got some fantastic screenshots and enjoyed the entire experience. No personal fleet carriers imho but perhaps group/squadron carriers?

Time for me to chime in as well, with feedback and suggestions.

Since DW2 six years ago, it’s worth noting—and perhaps surprising—that aside from the excellent anti-xeno initiatives and the numerous smaller-scale expeditions that followed Horizons, no player-run events of a similar scale or impact, nor the variety of those seen during the Horizons era, have emerged. Or, if they have, they’ve not garnered comparable attention. This raises important questions as we consider the future: “Do today’s Elite Dangerous players (particularly explorers who a DW3 would be aimed toward) still have an appetite for this type of engagement?”, or has this near absence of large-scale community created activity (compared to Horizons) been more down to a technical barrier in some way?
Neither, actually. When it comes to finding out stuff - exploration - large scale player events simply weren't needed. Plenty of new squadrons had formed, people had their own goals, and for surveying stuff, it turned out that coordination is the key: ten well-coordinated explorers can give better results than a hundred players who are just left mostly to their own devices. When Frontier did add plenty of new content to exploration, which was Odyssey, finding things out then didn't require large numbers of players in one general area either.

So, people had a good number of goals, and none of those needed thousands of explorers. The one thing that would need those large numbers are Community Goals, and Frontier didn't add any that went out to deep space.

However, with the Frontier of today (especially seeing they added some in-game support to that AX blockade recently), I think they could be convinced to do that again... and if anyone can convince them, it's you guys. Going by the reception so far, the primary audience for DW3 will be players who are either (mostly) new to exploration or have quit five years ago, so this would be a perfect opportunity to try and get them engaged with exploration again.

I think the developers might prefer to focusing on colonization first... but it's not like that can't be integrated with DW3 either. Anne of the Seals on the FleetComm Discord had a good idea: to propose to FD that the expedition will be about establishing a second colonization hub at Sagittarius A* (or elsewhere). After all, the devs did say that at the start at least, only the bubble will be available as a starting point for colony ships: it would be cool if new starting point(s) were unlocked through CGs and such, instead of the devs just waving a wand and whoosh, suddenly we can launch colonies from anywhere.
Hey, it's even in the name: Distant Worlds.

Anyway, what else was there... Oh yeah, you mentioned "the possibility of including industry and logistics based gameplay", I'd just like to remark on one thing: if there will be anything that involves moving cargo, then players will do that with fleet carriers. That's a certainty. Personally, I don't think that's a bad thing, but it's still something to be kept in mind.

That's all that comes to my mind for now. I hope that you'll move forward and do DW3, and have fun!

Missed the first DW, but took part in DW2 - and loved it! This time, if DW3 goes ahead, I'll be careful NOT to turn off my thrusters while taking off from a highish-G planet like The View! Oops!

Heh, I almost tried to land on a high-ish G world without turning on my shields. Fortunately someone else was there to remind me to raise my shields just before i got too low.

It was obsidian ant and your 'New Horisons' cobra 3 exploration videos that got me into elite on xbox and really got me hooked on exploration and seeing what could be out there.

Since that DW 2 was the first expedition I dedicated time to take part in after kitting out an FDL loaded out for exploration and that expedition goes down and one of the best online gaming experiences I've ever had.

Since transferring to PC after they canned console development and I got over my bitter pself, I was praying for a DW 3 with atmospheric worlds to explore with other players so im already subscribed to the idea. I was low key thinking to host it myself but simply never had the time, resources or knowhow to make it serious but I've invested my interest. I can't wait!
