Horizons distress call

just about to drop at a station when this new item appeared. distress call. I dropped in. I found a ship under attack by 7 sidewinders. I couldn't hang about . too many to take on when shields went to 30% after 4 hits. l left caller to his fate. be advised go in in a wing.

I only found NPCs out of gas in the Distress call instances I joined.... kinda bummed that I could not help them in any way.

Wish I could have more class 1 internals in my multipurpose....

Did distress call in Beta, only 3 ships and then police turned up to help.
So seems random and maybe based on system type and your combat rank?

I did a distress call once, and a capital ship was under attack, helped finish off the attackers, and then another capital ship hyperspaced in.

I scarpered at this point, as I was actually stuck literally in the middle of the two firing at each other.

One of these days I might actually one of those battles through to the end.

So continuing my return to populated space I ran in to one of these and, curious, dropped in for a look.
I too encoutered the 'loads of sidewinders' variant and was considerably grateful for my shields as I scarpered. Didn't feel great about that but would have felt worse losing all the exploration data...
I also checked out some wreckage and, as previously, it is still illegal to pick up. Which is a bit of a shame, you would think an escape pod LYs from anywhere in unpopulated space would be reasonable to recover. Ho hum.

Ive just encountered a distress call which was a dbx under attack from pirates (attacking one didn't make all the wing hostile) after defeating a few waves including a conda and 2 vultures a search and rescue ship turned up, but didnt rescue the dbx just took all the salvage and cargo then left

I found one with 5 pirates. I killed them all... 5 more pirates showed up... I killed them all. Then 5 more pirates showed up... I said "alright... screw this" and left...

That's exactly what I found in beta, wish I had the DBXs shields, man does that thing take some punishment :)

I managed this in a FAS. It's not exclusive to wings but if you bring friends it'll obviously be easier.

That third wave is the last. I think one of them is a "boss".

Distress calls are really fun. Shame you don't get a reward for completing them, besides the bounty hand in.

Yeah a better reward would be good but it's early days, I managed to fight off all the waves in a Cobra Mk IV believe it or nor, helps that all the Pirates don't go hostile all at once, that's prob a bug :)

I dropped in on a distress call - it was an NPC out of fuel wanting help. I couldn't see a way of popping off and getting some limpets and coming back (be great if there was a way), there was also no way to trigger a mission as far as I could tell.
Maybe I missed something.

My distress call was a trap. No one was in need. It was oirates looking to take my gold. I took on 3 waves of them. Great experience.

Dropped in on a distress call. Fought off first wave but had my cockpit breached. When the second wave of pirates dropped in I kept fighting because, you know, there's that NPC that needs my help. Destroyed the second wave also and 3 vessels of the third wave. Eventually had to retreat because I was running out of air. I felt sorry for bailing on that poor NPC that kept begging for somebody, anybody to help him.

I installed some fuel limpets, because I wanted to what happens when you give them fuel. Turns out they just thank you and then scarper. No reward or anything, so it's not worth wasting a module slot on.

That's a shame... it would have been really cool to have the ship at least reward you with some cargo, if a more complex reward such as the location of a secret treasure or information on a juicy bounty are currently not possible in the game.

So now Goonswarm are in Elite Dangerous as well.

Great.

I dropped out of SC to answer a Distress Call. Coming out of SC first thing I saw was a Sidewinder getting bigger and bigger until I crashed into it, letting my shields vanish... a short message about comm links broken or something, a few more seconds of other ships firing at me and me struggling to use an SCB and activating my FSD, then explosion and a visit to my insurance company. I was in a kitted out Vulture.

For now I'll lay off the Distress Calls. I wonder though if crashing in the Sidewinder was by accident or on purpose, although I have no idea how NPCs would know where and when you'd come out of SC.

But surely you get a warm fuzzy feeling that you helped out a fellow pilot?? Its not all about the Benjamin's.

I've visited one distress call so far. When I entered I found a wrecked ship and a System Security vessel who sent a message like "Patrol to base. Don't know if the pilot encountered hostiles or hit self destruct. Returning to patrol."
