DIY Head Tracker For A Tenner

If you turn headlook off in-game does it re-centre? Either a game bug (unlikely) or some other device is bound to mouselook/headlook and is offsetting your view?

Hi Brumster,

If you turn headlook off in-game does it re-centre? Either a game bug (unlikely) or some other device is bound to mouselook/headlook and is offsetting your view?

Without the EDTracker connected I get no headlook at all, so can't see what else it might be. Flicking headtrack on and off does show the offset as it jumps back to ahead.

I'm pretty sure it must be an ED issue or setting as it looks fine in the Windows joystick calibrator.

Here's what I'm seeing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U701TntX9ps&t=1m22s

Maybe I need to hose my settings and start again, but this is a pretty new install already!

Cheers,

Cool, I'll take a look when mine comes through. There is no "MPU-9265" chip from Invensense so these are all using the same chip - the MPU-9250 - so I can't for the life of me think why they wouldn't work with the firmware. The "MPU-92/65" designation must just be some Chinese marketing thing, maybe to bridge the gap in people's minds from 6050 to 9250....

Anyway, if you can hang in there for a few days, I'll spend some time verifying things and see what I can find out.
Could be that I just got two junk MPUs and will have to replace them with more expensive units from a known good supplier.
I ran calibration from scratch this am and noticed the magnetometer produces two spheres of points but the red and green are offset forming a horizontal figure eight, I also do not get the temp reading on one of the units.

Long shot but try going into 'Setup USB Game Controller', select the edtracker -> settings -> reset to defaults

Given it a try -- no joy. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I've tried uninstalling opentrack and virtualjoy in case they're conflicting -- don't seem to be. All I can think of left is to reset all the ED config files tomorrow and do all the keybindings again.

Perplexing.

Did you calibrate it using the Windows game controller calibrator? Perhaps that doesn't play well with the values reported by EDTracker. You can find game controller calibrations somewhere under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\MediaProperties\, but be warned, Windows 10 blue screened after I deleted an entire device's keys (background: My CH pedals started to drift and I wanted to make sure Windows calibration wasn't a factor)

I might order a kit from Hobby Components myself and build one just to see if this is something up with the "latest" 9250 boards...

Just a quick note about the Pro Site. It has since your launch of it and still today trying to make me download the Video because I Don't have flash installed. I reported this shortly after your launch of the Pro site.
Since Flash is a dead end now, might be time to change the video to the HTML5 version.

I'll have to embed some javascript in order to load HTML5 <video> tags, rather than the current flash approach. Leave it with me, I'll put it on the list. I've had a busy weekend with Pro Wireless, I'll see if I can squeeze it in tonight/tomorrow ;)

Looks ok to me too, I disabled Flash and it launched as an HTML5 player instead. I think that'll do it. I'll implement it on the main front page ;)

Most welcome.

While you're about, I might as well pick your brains. I'm now running ED Horizons on PC, on windows 10. My EDTracker is working fine (I have to unplug/replug it every time I boot up the pc, but that's no biggie). I downloaded the GUI in case I ever have to recalibrate etc, but it doesn't work. Windows 10 won't let me download arduino drivers, saying that it already has better drivers, and the EDtracker gui won't connect to the tracker. Now, I'm not too worried, as so far (touch wood) there's no problems, but I would like to have it all working so I'm future-proof. Got any ideas?

I run Windows 7, but do have a Windows 10 laptop which I used to check DIY EDTracker on. It works fine with no Arduino drivers installed; its just detected by some default Microsoft drivers as a USB COM port. You can forcibly install drivers by right-clicking on the .inf and choosing "Install". For removing drivers, and any left-over virtual COM ports, USBDeview is a handy debug tool (run as Admin).

It really does seem a mixed bag with Windows 10 and the Arduino drivers. I would suggest trying without them first and only installing them if absolutely needed - the GUI should show any generic USB COM port in the drop-down. If it's not listing, can you let me know exactly what the COM port is described as in Windows Device Manager? Rob does some filtering in the GUI I believe, only displays ports with "Leonardo" in their name, or "Serial" (or something - he'll know exactly)...

Cheers, I'll have another look next time I'm on that machine, but from memory it does see the COM port, but clicking the CONNECT button doesn't do anything. As I say, the tracker is working fine, and I have no need to flash it or recalibrate it at the mo. I'm split between "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and "have the tools ready for when you need them".

Yes i noticed this, i use win 10, and windows installs drivers automatically and it just works after installing the ui. For any Star Ciizen users, i also just found out it works in SC now, after trying the new 2.1 yesterday, and just setting my controls up, using the x-y input on look left\right and up\down axis, seems to work the same as in ED.

So does this get you the video by HTML5 rather than Flash? It should do according to the Google YouTube API... be grateful of a quick test and I can put it on the main website then...

Gets me Video and not downloading.

Has this been done? Tested just now and get the Download on the Pro site. Your test was fine.

I built an edtracker some time ago. It is the magnetometer version and I bought the parts from ebay suppliers in China.

It works but I have a problem with 'juddering'. Even if the device is stationary on the desk the view will be slightly moving. It isn't a steady drift but a constant juddering or bouncing. Obviously this makes it a bit uncomfortable to use.

I have tried upping the filtering slider a bit but when high enough to reduce it it causes noticeable lag or sluggish response. I can avoid it to some extent in ED when looking forward by setting a deadzone on the axis but it is nor ideal and the problem is back as soon as I look away from the centre of the screen.

It was the first time I had soldered anything for many years and much smaller than I realized. It wouldn't surprise me if I had a fault there or maybe one of the components is faulty but I don't know how to go about diagnosing what the problem is.

Any suggestions? thanks
