DLC 19 Speculation

In period before Barnyard pack it definitely looked like they were ready to wrap things up. But now it feels like they are, shyly and silently, coming back to PZ PC. Now that's maybe for few packs only, but a lot of stuff that happened in that year period, it seems to me like there was shift in plans regarding PZ PC support.

I believe realistically we can expect more than one pack this year

Yeah but frontier needs less feathers and more hooves in there
oh dont worry 3rd place are 3 african bovines plenty of frontier approved animals.
frontier when deciding what the next bird will be
Swan + Flamingo works in my head better than Cassowary + Emu. I generaly can't see a cassowary in any mixed habitat with it being so solitairy.

Swan + Chicken is also solid indeed.
I went to a zoo yesterday that had cassowary with multiple other birds across a few exhibits some of which were free roaming birds like egrets but others like the brolga and golden pheasant were definitely intentional. They are solitary but arent unfriendly to other birds.

Have we considered a steppe animal pack?
  1. Secretary bird
  2. Patagonian mara
  3. Greater rhea
  4. Blackbuck
  5. Yak
  6. Grey kangaroo
  7. Perentie
Sorry this is honestly a bad pack idea. Steppe itself is a niche word very few people will understand.
On top of that the word steppe originates and stems from the great steppe of eastern europe as its the russian word for grasslands. So unless someone is deeply familiar with biome classification terminology even if they know what the steppe it its likely will only know of cold steppe in the context of siberia. This makes the animal choices uniquely bad to represent this theme since the image of steppe will conjure non of those animals and the animals people associate with the steppe theming itself making for bad additions to planet zoo due to their similarity to existing animals and general obscurity.

On top of that the perentie is barely found within climate ranges classified as steppe with only the far eastern part of its range being considered steppe. Also none of the animals live primarily in steppe with the the primary biomes of the mara being cold desert, blackbuck being tropical savannah, yak being tundra, the secretary bird and grey kangaroos both being too geographically diverse to pin to a particular biome.

replace the yak with like the impala or something similar and maybe the perentie and you would actually have quite a good grasslands pack.

I mean, the red pandas stick to the canopy, and the cassowaries are unbothered on the ground, and as far as I know, there hasn't been any trouble between both animals.
I know, I just meant it as a joke lol. If a zoo is doing this then it should be safe. It is an European zoo which I think also shows something.

What would you think about Scrublands animal pack?

There was a biome like that in zoo tycoon and there is in prehistoric kingdom.

It could include:
Australia (Echidna)
India (Blackbuck, Honey badger)
Africa (various birds, Serval, Eland)
SA (Howler, Coati, Ocelot, Mara, Rhea, Guanaco)
California would probably be a great idea too.

I think they would probably go with savannah instead as thats a more well known name.
But i think it could be a great option to get stuff like blackbuck, secretary and the patagonia duo into the game.

Far from it actually.
Im not particularly enthusiastic about getting more packs
I’m in a similar boat to you, while new content is always nice, I’m not particularly looking forward to how things are. Basically I have two trains of thought when it comes to the future packs:
  1. PZ continues to do well, so Frontier just “keeps things the same” which is less than ideal for me
  2. PZ continues to do well, so as things are Frontier starts “putting effort” back into the game. Which this is what I would much prefer.
I don’t think I have ever hated a pack before, every pack has something I can use or enjoy (not to say I might not be disappointed on release). But there has been a lot of stuff that has been weighing on me:
  1. Yeah I’m just gonna get the obvious out of the way, outside of monkeys and reptiles, I pretty much have every other habitat animal I could want in game. With the obvious exception of birds. I get I am a squeaky wheel about it, but man is it bad. I almost wish I wasn’t a bird guy in real life so I could just not care. It doesn’t help where I get a bit of FOMO where I watch people scratch off another of their top 10 animals, and well I don’t. I love mixed species habitats, and it is such a shame Frontier is largely ignoring the group of animals best suited for that.
  2. I miss exhibits. I really do. I get some people don’t like the giant boxes, but I love how we got a zoo game that could actually have small reptiles, invertebrates, and amphibians. I feel like they are still a huge missed opportunity, especially in regards to adding animals like fish. After a whole year of not getting any of them, I really miss them. Exhibit animals are like birds for me, where I would love if we could get more than one per pack.
  3. While I didn’t hate Barnyard’s props I really didn’t care for ZooKeepers. Which is admittedly another issue I have been having. With less packs, and less scenery, not only do we miss out on an exhibit animals but you may just be completely out of luck if you don’t like the scenery. As the scenery is more prop focused there may also be less useful building sets as well. If you don’t ever want to build a barn, or don’t ever want to build a festive tent, you are out of luck outside of a handful or pieces.
  4. South America. Part of the issue is that this continent is somewhat known for its biodiversity, with it being well known for its fish, cats, Xenarthra, monkeys, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. That’s not to say South America has no animals, as we all know most of the continents megafauna are in game. That still leaves a massive hole in the roster though, and consider 2023 say massive roster boosts to Africa, Asia, and Europe it seemed obvious South America was next. After 2024 it still wasn’t though. In two years we only got one exhibit animal and one habitat animal. IMO South America got unlucky, with the types of animals it needs either being impossible to add into game, or never being animals Frontier will focus on.
Yeah I would completely get if someone is loving how Frontier is doing, and see this post and think I’m complaining again (which is true). However that is the unfortunate part, with every pack Frontier has to balance the interests of many different people, and unfortunately they haven’t done the best of jobs IMO. On that part I really just got unlucky.

I would love it. I think is one of the best options to cover a lot of bases:

1. Secretary bird
2. Blackbuck
3. Echidna
4. Greater rhea
5. Patagonian mara
6. Honey badger
7. Perentie
8. Cobra!

A Scrubland pack could really knock out a lot of my most wanted species, the only one I'd really be missing would be the tree roo.
1. Black Howler
2. White-Nosed Coatimundi
3. Greater Rhea
4. Patagonian Mara
5. Short-Beaked Echidna
6. Rock Hyrax
7. Radiated Tortoise

In the past, I would have said this was too close to Grasslands and Arid. But since we're in a post-Zookeeper pack world, where Frontier at this point seems to just be milking the game, who even knows?

I would be super down for scrublands. The only thing I would be worried about is maybe it might be close to grasslands to some. (Granted the grasslands pack did feel like a scrubland pack to me).

For fun these are my picks:
  1. Secretary bird
  2. Giant Eland
  3. Greater Rhea
  4. Patagonian Mara
  5. Perentie
  6. Echidna
  7. Radiated tortoise
