DLC 19 Speculation

Just for curiosity, what would you prefer: a specific Amazon pack or a pack that covers several South American regions?
Personally a pack focused on the Amazon rainforest, but I am also very close to a general South America pack. I mean the Rhea and Patagonian Mara are such good animals to add to the game. On the other hand I frequently encounter I need the tropical animals more.

Im definitely team general SA over Amazon.
Getting an amazon animal pack sounds great at first, but if you take a closer look you notice that alot of the animals people want from south america actually dont live in the amazon basin, or just range into it ever so slightly so arent really a natural fit.
Black howler, golden lion tamarin and geoffroy spider monkey, the three most requested primates for SA dont really live in the amazon.
None of the pink trio of ibis, spoonbill and flamingo really live there either.

Thats not to say that you couldnt do a cool amazon pack, as coati and ocelot still are a perfect fit and you could settled for a squirrel monkey or saki instead.
But i think at this point its better go for a more general SA pack so you can also include stuff from the tropical grass/wetlands, patagonia and other non-amazon forest regions

I don't think most people care about the exact species of monkey they get, just as long as it has the right suffix. Also, people are generally more concerned about the Amazon Rainforest as a whole, not just the Basin. You can do an Animal Pack with these species and still get tons of buyers:
  • Colombian Red Howler
  • Red-Faced Spider Monkey
  • South American Coati
  • Buff-Necked Ibis
  • Roseate Spoonbill
  • Red-Footed Tortoise
  • Argentine Black-&-White Tegu
  • Plenty of options for a WTE like macaws and hummingbirds (assuming Frontier stops neglecting them)

Given the choice of any 2 WTE Bird species, what do you choose?

Given the choice of 3 WTE Bird Species from the same Family, which do you choose?
individuals:
  • budgerigar
  • rainbow lorikeet

family: cockatoos (cacatuidae)
  • cockatiel
  • galah
  • mitchells cockatoo

easily a broader pack offers more chances for both regional and climate diversity and can include more highly prominent animals like the rhea or mara.
I may also be biased because tropical rainforests are my least favourite biome type.

I mean, I personally really want Geoffroy's spider monkey specifically. Though, I guess I'll take anything but the red-faced (one of the few primates to actually unsettle me)

100% a general SA pack. The Amazon does have a LOT of species that could easily be added that people would be ecstatic for, but the extra diversity given by not focusing on that region is too important to pass up.

As I mentioned in a different topic: gave us the Arid dlc when we’re expecting a desert theme and it was all Africa. They can give us a rainforest dlc and just throw all SA tropical animals in. I personally was frustrated that arid wasn’t worldwide representing. I would prefer rainforest be worldwide rep but I also would be very happy with an all SA dlc.

I mean you aren’t wrong that Frontier can do that, but a common complaint about Arid is that it wasn’t a good representation of the concept of an “Arid Pack” as it only represented North Africa and the Middle East.

While we might all agree that we “need” South American animals, a “Rainforest” pack being only Central American to South American animals would have the same criticisms.

Why couldn’t a pack called “Arid” have a perentie, or a roadrunner? What about the other arid regions of the world?

Why couldn’t a pack called “Rainforest” have a black and white colobus, or a tree kangaroo? What about the other rainforests in the world?

While everyone complained that Arid was exclusively African animals, I don't think most people would have been upset if it was mostly African. So take out 1-2 of the ungulates and add in Roadrunner and Perentie and I think the view of the pack would have been quite different.

They certainly could do the same with a Rainforest/Tropical 2.0 DLC. Have 5 SA animals and 2 from elsewhere.

You know what I find hilarious? So many people give their concept DLC packs flowery "Zoo Tycoon" style names, like "Wings of the World" or "Seven Seas" even though Frontier has never done that for PZ.
every single pack so far has been a single adjective or "singular" noun and while wings of the world would be such a fun pack name your right we are never going to see something as out there as wings of the world we are much more likely to see bird as the pack name. The closest we ever got to a not literal pack name was zookeeper and maybe twilight.

The funny thing is that only half of ZT2's paid DLC packs are alliterations. The 2 that don't are titled to advertise the fact they contain new animals

This is a great point, and one that I think is underdiscussed. Hah. Because, yeah, most pack names are literally one word (except Southeast Asia but that's a copout). So when considering pack names people should only really be thinking about singular adjectives, locations, etc. Interesting how the way things are marketed has changed over the years.

But, TBH, I also think people just tend to find a name that sounds good to them and fits the general theme. I don't think people are predicting they'll get the exact name correct. Though the ZT2 impact is still very real with so much of this.
