DLC 19 Speculation

I wonder, is there any of the requested animals that you think is overrated and why?

For me it would be the Tree Kangaroo. Do not get me wrong, I totally think it should be in the game, I just do not see the appeal. I guess one reason is that I have never seen it in real life as there are none kept in my country.
The hyrax easily, it's just a discount Rock hamster, who ever wants this are pinheads.

joking aside it would be the Rhea, I mean I understand why people want to, and I would not hate, but we have so many ratties I don't think we need the wish.com ostrich from South America. I do really want a Mara though, it is leagues above the Rhea, not even close.

The musk ox is easily my #1 most overrated by a long shot. They basically just require a large flat open space for an exhibit, there's nothing particularly special or exciting about them from a game play perspective, they kinda just look fugly, and have limited use as far as where one might put them in a zoo. Walrus would be my #2 but even that at least brings a very specific aesthetic, could be built for in a variety of ways and habitat styles, they might look really cool in-game, etc.

Tree kangaroo is the polar opposite of both these species. Unique looking, brings a new dynamic to the game, can be built for a variety of different habitat types/themed areas, etc.

For me has always been the tree kangaroo as well. I think they are interesting and cute but never thought they were essential to the game. Like if they are added then great is something different and cool but if they don't then i can love without them.
This is why "essential" is such an odd way of putting things... I don't really think anything is essential at this point. It's more just what people really want.

what if thats why we havent seen an americas pack yet because they are trying to figure out how to get something like manatees to work since that has consistently been one of the most requested american animals alongside macaws something that also would take sometime to work on.
Then I'd be really happy ahahah, but I doubt it

I personally don’t mind the Secretary bird - I don’t think it’s overrated or underrated. Usually what we ask for is something that brings a unique factor to the game and the Secretary does with its long legs + new hunting behaviours possibly. It’s also just a very beautiful bird in general. I don’t need it, but I do see the appeal.View attachment 406774
I agree, perfer a Ground Hornbill or Helmeted Guinea Fowl but I would love one

but someone wants to speak to you

Yeah musk ox is another ZT2 animal I don’t particularly need. Pretty much for all the reasons you mentioned. I think they are cool for an Arctic zoo, but I want a bird before we do that.

Please take a close look at my zoo. See here? This billboard hints at the upcoming animals. The orca since SeaWorld has them (possible), long-tailed glossy starling (likely), Canada goose (likely), turkey vulture (unlikely), and toco toucan (expected). Those animals are based on Gamer Empire's Planet Zoo Predictions and Wishlist videos.

Love the little guy, but do you really see it working as a regular habitat animal? In my eyes they are really small and fly a lot so I am not sure how realistic they are as habitat animals
I mean it's possible, frontier isn't afraid of doing something inaccurate, like how the Sifaka climbs or how the okapi moves so I feel the owl could be done, but the Roadrunner is more realistic.

Also have any of you guys ever seen a Roadrunner mixed with a tropical pigeon before, or is that just me.

That is up to Frontier and how they implement it, which is why I don’t think they would. Do I think a burrowing owl could work? Yeah. Same as the puffin, white stork, ibis, or secretary bird. All of these birds would fall into “close to working in game” territory.

Give us some decent enrichment items and new mesh pieces and I think it would be fine. But with the current state of things I just don’t think we would get something newish like that.

2 years ago I would have trusted Frontier with animals like that. After the Sifaka incident I kind of just hope they go with not too complicated choices, though still within categories that needs representation.

I hear ya man. Watching modders create flying animations and the sifaka climbs like a regular lemur is disheartening. Even if it jumps on the ground like it should I don’t know why they wouldn’t just do a squirrel monkey and save the trouble.

I’m in a bit of a downer mood over the state of things, I’m worried they aren’t even gonna add any birds in the next dlc. So even when it comes to representation we could get a South America pack with no birds again. Part of me thinks Frontier could turn the ship around, but as the way things are maybe not. We will see, mods have helped me a lot, but in a weird way it makes me more mad that even something basic like a second flamingo I need a mod for.

You know what i think is frustrating about those "complicated" choices? That most of those unique behaviours could be done if tied to a new enrichment objects. Like perching poles or elevated nests, fake snakes to stump on, a series of conected trees or trunks for the sifaka tonjump from one another. They did it for the beaver for instance.

I’m pretty sure Planet Zoo is now just the “money maker game”. So I expect the next dlc to be safe. I’ll admit barnyard had a good amount of effort (at least in the free update). I’m just getting worried this next dlc is gonna be played too safe.

Don't forget the Pallas Cat not having a animation where it sits on its tail, honestly I feel that the burrowing owl could not fly at all and it would still be perfectly fine unlike the Sifaka or Okapi, as long at they borrow I will be happy, but yeah we should have just got a new enrichment for the Sifaka or just another animal entirely (like the Squirrel Monkey or if they must have a lemur a Aye-Aye)
