DLC18 discussion and predictions

Since we know it'll be an Animal Pack next, JUST FOR FUN, if the next and presumably last pack were to be a scenery pack, what would you do?

I think the only real options would be LATAM/Americas, or a very broad "Around the World" theme of various different cultures the selected animals originate from, along with any last remaining general zoo props, and a pretty generous free update.
Probably the most crowd-pleasing and thought-out theme for a SCENERY pack at this point would be a Cloud Forest Pack. The roster would be:

White Nosed Coati
Mantled Guereza
Goodfellow’s Tree Kangaroo
Spectacled Bear
Two Toed Sloth (WE)

South American rep, Tree Kangaroo, Primates, and the correct species of Sloth, all included here. This would be a fantastic scenery pack for us to receive at this point. Don’t know what the scenery theme would be though… something Costa Rican?

There was so much talk about the tree kangaroo in 2023 specificly that they must have atleast considered including it in the oceania pack. So maybe it was originally planned and already worked on but deceided against for whatever reason and reworked into the quokka instead, explaining the relic climbing assests.
Kinda makes for sense to me than using the quokka as a testing ground for an animal coming a year later, while still working at the qoukka itself in the first place
given how long it would take to design a tree kangaroo and how long it likely takes them from ideas to actually finishing a pack if they were planning on adding a tree kangaroo it may not be ready yet since it only really gained popularity at the end of of 2022 into 2023. Though testing climbing animations on a quokka is very possible and even the idea that the tree kangaroo was scrapped.
Like I and many others have said before, ideally, the Himalayan brown bear should have been the Eurasian brown bear. The specification was unnecessary and ultimately pointless when they could have a better, less specific option.
my hot take is that they should of just added the brown bear as a species scrapped the grizzly in place of the black bear and just had the brown bear to represent its whole range.
The thing is that Central América fauna has a lot of overlap with South América. Rhea and mara and Spec bear are SA exclusive but ocelot, spoonbill, rhea, pelicans ,monkeys, coatis, tamanduas, agoutis, etc. are found in both regions. So a pack that focus in LATAM animals would cover both. (Or should)
I have said it before and ill say it again a central america pack is the most obvious pick for another pack in that region and I think that will be the direction frontier takes.

There are a few cool scenery packs i can think of, but none really are that satisfactory as a final pack.
If i had to chose one i just would go with a zoo classics pack, coati, baboon, duck, nw monkey and generic zoo and city scenery

Also a funny thing is that the majority of the large animals in SA are pretty recent settlers from NA, arriving there with the help of said landbridge.
This would include the camelids, cats and dogs, the bear and tapirs.
Big shame that SA native megafauna almost exclusively became extinct after the connection, alot of them would be so awesome to see
There's also a couple that made it to South America before the landbridge, notably Chapalmalania of the Raccoon family filled a small bear sort of niche.

Ground sloths like Pliometanastes also got to North America before the landbridge too. They were likely decent swimmers like living sloths, there's even Thalassocnus which had a similar niche to Marine iguanas, and ground sloths also existed in the Caribbean during the Holocene.

I don't know it's like one of those packs where half the lineup is good that will be used often and the other half well exists.

Even if we do have 2-3 more packs, I honestly don’t care if we get just animal packs onward, as long as we keep getting new foliage in the free updates.
Im honestly content with the foliage we have, cant really think of anything that im missing. More would always be beneficial, but new foliage is far from a priority for me

Id be sort of fine with only animal packs if they follow the barnyard fomular of having less animals but a handfull of props.
On the other hand did frontier forgot how to make neat animal packs, so im still leaning more towards scenery packs

I just want more regular shrubs and grasses, the recent ones we’ve gotten like hosta, creosote shrubs (dry variant too) etc. have all been super helpful for realistic lush enclosures - while they’re not needed, I would definitely appreciate more.

On the subject of animal packs, I know it's a mega unpopular opinion, but...Barnyard might have actually been my favorite animal pack since North America.

HEAR ME OUT. Barnyard just feels like the most seen followed through pack in terms of its vision. As much as I would have liked poultry and rabbits, I cannot in good faith look at any of those choices and honestly say they had no business in being a farm pack. I might have played around with the selected breeds but that's different from species.

Wetlands had 4 excellent, crème de la crème picks with the otter, crane, platypus, and capybara, and four wildly off choices. I know the Nile lechwe has seen a "rethinking" and some deem it as wildly overhated, well...I don't lol

Grasslands, oh wait, literally as of writing this I forget about Grasslands. 😅 That one was pretty solid. I would have swapped out the stripped hyena with someone more unique than another carnivore though

Arid was a misfire imo and I can't have this conversation again

Eurasia is saved for me by the swan, tortoise, and sloth bear, and I can't deny the appeal of the wolverine. But the four other... I understand I might have bias as an American, but the presence of both the 2023-led influx of swine and base American bison made the wild boar and wisent seem redundant. Again American bias.
Siaga was okay. And tbh I kinda resent the takin, I know it was a community favorite and pick for many, but I was a much bigger fan of the markhor.

I think there are still some iconic plants that are missing, like the Pampas Grass and those tall California Palm Trees (Fan palm I think is the name?), maybe some kind of Bonsai trees and the likes.

I have 5 I'd like/hope for: Flowering Dogwood, Coffee Tree, Any Fruit Tree, Lavender and Strawberry Plant
I would pay extra to get horsetail plants.
I would too! In addition to the any of the five I already listed. Horsetails are one of the most unique yet ubiquitous plants its disappointing we don't have them...

I think while it’s not my favourite pack, Barnyard is the most important animal pack, because while the other packs add rep to continents, there are very few animals in them that actually differ from the way you build enclosures. E.x. Cougar might be NA rep, but you still build for it pretty much the same as any other large cat.

Barnyard differs from this by introducing a (kinda) new way to build, or at least it gives the player something new to build, petting zoos, and petting zoos are a part of every zoo so it’s definitely an essential addition.
