DLC18 discussion and predictions

Coati is pretty much a given i think. If i had to name one species that i think has the highest chance of being added its the coati
If Frontier had been a little more giving in terms of primates, I'd definitely say that a Howler Monkey would be the most likely addition. But we see...4 primates from DLC in 4.5 years. only one of which is from South America. The Baboon is also a huge want for people, though I think should definitely be less of a priority than the Howler.

But yeah, Coati then Howler (or another New World Primate, Howler just seems to be the go to here). Third would be the American or Spectacled Bear, but only one of the two - we may end up with both but I think it's fairly likely we'll get at least one of them. After that I kind of consider everything having a 50/50 shot at best, what with the history with PZ's birds and primates, arboreal animals and the like.

Re: 3 ungulates? Easy pick for me.
Masai Giraffe
Muskox
Markhor

Blackbuck, Himalayan Tahr, Bighorn Sheep, Elk and some kind of South American deer as the runner ups.

Uhm ok so about coati vs tree ro thing i think we can get both. One is first in metawishlist, is a small carnivores and from SA, the other had been requested for long and suspiciously left out of the perfect pack for it in favor of the quokka (which had some climbing test performed with it's code so double suspicious) plus there is the name thing in Planko dictionary as possible evidence that was considered at some point.

We have gotten animals that we thought were going to be in the one or the other situation as well in previous packs, the most recent one being takin ans wisent, but we also got two birds in the Oceanía pack, two desert antelopes in the Arid pack plus the scimitar horned Oryx before them, all four red river hog, peccary, wild boar and domestic pig in a row, both the siamang and gibbon, etc.

On the three ungulates picks subject i would pick: blackbuck, musk ox and markhor. Yes i would like a muntjac or pudu, gerenuk, the Brazilian tapir and the greater kudu is probably my favorite african antelope, but the first three are the ones that i feel should've been added to the game already and are the ones that have been asked for the most but never considered and missed their chance in packs that were the perfect fit for them in favor of something more niche or not at all popular.

And on the one piece subject idk i guess my most wanted features/piece set is a modular netting / aviary set.l but i'm always happy with just new plants haha

If we are to get up to three ungulates in the final pack which do you think are the most likely?
It's pretty obvious what the average want, being the Markhor, Blackbuck & Musk-ox, all left from the Zoo Tycoons interestingly. For the final pack, JWE2 got 75% what people asked for, 25% something similar that literally only one person asked for, so I'm thinking maybe a Bharal instead of a Markhor, or a Goitered gazelle instead of a Blackbuck.

This is a list of wild/feral ungulates that could apply to an Islands theme and are present in Zoos to a degree. Going by the 2024 essentials it'd be Musk-ox, Reeve's Muntjac & Japanese Serow, going by 2023, Serow is replaced by White-tailed deer. I'd think it to be maybe Muntjac, Serow and Anoa for an islands theme.
  • Javan/Greater Mouse-Deer
  • Bornean/Palawan Bearded pig
  • Visayan warty pig
  • Reeve's Muntjac
  • Lowland Anoa
  • Blue Duiker
  • Japanese serow
  • Banteng
  • Corsica Mouflon
  • Key/White-tailed deer
  • Red brocket
  • Sambar deer
  • Axis deer
  • Indian hog deer
  • Sika deer
  • Visayan spotted Deer
  • Musk-ox

Hard to say whats most likly as anything has a shot depending on the pack but if its about my favorite combination of 3 ungulates that i wouldnt find unlikly it would be the blackbuck, southern pudu and common eland.
The games biggest blindspots are a generic asian ungulates and a very small ungulate and id bet on an african antelope being included aswell and the common eland is not only a personal favorite but would add something rather unique compared to the current roster in its size.
It would add something new to african mixed savannahs while also being able to actually be spotted unlike a small antelope and mix those habitats up quite nucly together with an african grassland bird like the grey crowned crane

Let's liven up discussion.
You're in charge of Frontier for one day.
The boss can only allow one new scenery piece collection to be added.
What are you adding?
An expansion to the blank flexicolor sign list.
They are by far my favorite set for decoration and besides atleast 10 more animals id love some more leaf and bush options, aswell as underwater themed ones like seaweed, waves and bubbles

The whole we can't get 2 arboreal animals point about the coati and tree roo isn't really a strong argument since we've gotten multiple climbing animals in a single pack before, specifically the Tropical pack with the gibbon, fossa, and sloth, Conservation with the leopard and siamang, and South America with the jaguar and capuchin. Usually when a pack does more than 1 climbing animal 1 needs more attention and the others are clones, for example with the conservation pack the leopard is a cat clone and the siamang is the one that needs more attention seeing how its a brand new rig and needs new animations.

The coati can probably go off of the raccoon, fossa, or one of those climbing weasel like animals we already have. The tree roo I'm not quite sure what they would choose to base it off of, maybe the koala? Idk really.

It doesn't have to be based off of a climbing animal, it's easier to add climbing to an animal that already has similar animations than start with a climbing animal and rebuild all their animations from the ground up. The quokka stands out as the most likely animal they'd use as a base from which to build the tree roo, though the final animal would end up having a unique rig once all is said and done.

Imo these are all 6 continents that need representation:
North America - Currently needs American Black Bear, Bird [American Flamingo, Wood Duck, Turkey], could use an ungulate like White-tailed, Bighorn or Elk.
South America - Most needed representation with more birds, needs a small ungulate like pudu, needs more primates and other animals.
Oceania - Currently needs Perentie, Short Beaked Echidna, Tree Kangaroo
Asia - Needs more East Asia animals [Markhor, Yak, GSNM, Black Buck, Golden P and others] , Somewhat Middle east representation [Arabian oryx, other animals]
Africa- Needs another baboon, terrestrial bird [Secretary, Ground Hornbill], Primates [De Brazza, Mantled, and others], honey badger, others.
Europe - Could use some finishing touching animals like European rabbit and others animal.
In all 6 continents we need more birds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This brings up an interesting pack idea the last 2 packs for JWE2 have been a pack based on adding the final 4 animals from JWE1 and a pack of the most requested animals

what are some rosters for this in planet zoo considering zoo tycoons 1-3
Not including extinct, fully aquatic, flying birds or mythical animals the remaining number of full species from each game are
12 from 1
22 from 2
71 from x

historic collections
  • japanese serow (1)
  • blackbuck (1)
  • olive baboon (1)
  • honey badger (2)
  • african spurred tortoise (2)
  • spectacled bear (2)
  • azaras agouti (x)

  • american black bear
  • blackbuck
  • olive baboon
  • markhor
  • javan rhino
  • american bighorn sheep

So the way I see it, I'm just going to talk about mammals here, since we're all aware the bird situation is dire in every region except Oceania - talking about habitat birds only of course. So just with mammals

South America: Primates, yes more than 1. I mean, that's the overall biggest gap here in the mammal roster is the near lack of South American primates. Coati. Spectacled Bear, Ocelot (small cat spot), Patagonian Mara (for Patagonian representation)

North America - I wouldn't call the Black Bear absolutely needed but it's certainly iconic. The Muskox would give another large ungulate for North American Tundra. A non-tropical otter would be great, which the North American River Otter would work well.

Europe - If not the NARO, the Eurasian Otter works well here. Some say the European Brown Bear but I'm not so sure.

Africa - always, the jewel of any zoo roster, abudantly represented here but still second place behind SA for what region needs the most. What it actually comes down to though, is really the monkeys - a Baboon for sure, a third monkey in total would be great. Begrudgingly including the Honey Badger since it's borderline iconic and a well known "meme animal". And everyone knows, I want a second giraffe, but that's just me, it's not "needed." Would also say the Golden Jackal for North African canid representation, which also extends to the Middle East.

Asia - more ungulates, specifically the Markhor and at least one more Asian Antelope. Begrudgingly including the Pallas Cat for the "meme animal" reasons. And the Golden Jackal as noted above.

Oceania - Tree Kangaroo and Echidna. I'd love a second Kangaroo option but it's not needed.

Given the themes that everyone discusses:
  • Blackbuck (Global pack)
  • Southern pudu (Latin America)
  • White-tailed deer (Latin America/Americas pack)
Lowland tapir is an honorable mention.

The ungulates from a British perspective that are needed:
  • Kirk’s dik-dik (literally in every zoo)
  • Père David’s deer
  • Southern pudu / Visayan spotted deer
Since people are discussing continental representation:
North America - North American porcupine and Wild turkey. Followed by bighorn, sea otter and walrus
South America - an animal pack may just cover this but the usual suspects - with a special mention going to the bush dog!
Oceania - any monitor, tree-kangaroo, short-beaked echidna, black swan, and Victoria/Sclater’s crowned pigeon
Africa - Kirk’s dik-dik, normal mongoose, rock hyrax, gelada or alt baboon, west African monkeys, usual bords
Asia - hoofed mammals and fowl
Europe - European wildcat, red squirrel, white stork, Eurasian or demoiselle crane, great white pelican.

Going back to plants, assuming it's 2 species left, what do you think would be the best choices?
Any species of palms or similar tropical plants would help. Personally screw pines would be a big boost for tropical/desert plants.

First of all, I would make all the building pieces we already have flexicolour. That alone would catapult the creative level up so many dimensions.

One scenery item I really want is more triangular components that are not part of the grid.

Another are a mesh building set, snow coverd rock sets and sand/gravel "mulch" pieces. (and more flowers that are not pink or purple)
