DLC18 discussion and predictions

so looking through all the dictionary there is actually alot of animals missing some weirdly specific. I can safely assume secretary means nothing since the dictionary thoroughly covers most office terminology it is likely about the job title.

word fragments and animals with ingame signs
  • ant
  • bee
  • cobra
  • fly
  • crow

dead of fake
  • dinosaur
  • dragon
  • kraken
  • mammoth
  • unicorn

not just an animal
  • goodfellows
  • hamadryas
  • mouse

all possible animals (everything listed is in its noun form)
  • baboon
  • civet
  • coral
  • dolphin
  • dove
  • duck
  • eagle
  • echidna
  • eel
  • fish
  • hedgehog
  • hornet
  • impala
  • lemming
  • lovebird
  • macaw
  • mamba
  • moray
  • moth
  • octopus
  • parrot
  • pigeon
  • python
  • rat
  • raven
  • salmon
  • termite
  • vulture

That's some solid work!

Planet coaster has an assumedly older dictionary: https://console.planetcoaster.com/planco-dictionary

Of those words, only these ones are in this Planet Coaster version:
  • Cobra
  • Fly (noun)
  • Dinosaur
  • Dragon
  • Kraken
  • Mouse
  • Fish
  • Octopus
  • Parrot
  • Pigeon
  • Rat
  • Raven
It is quite interesting that Mammoth and Unicorn seem to have been added for Planet Zoo, I'm guessing they might have been planned as scenery at one point, like the dodo.

An interesting thing to note, Secretary is missing.

All in all, it does strike me as plans of the past, but it is interesting they've been thinking about the skies and the seas at some point.
Here's the work from when we first got to the dictionaries, on the 26th of April. The Planet coaster version was removed since. On the Wayback machine, only the letter A is preserved, so only useful for verifying that Ant is not there.

Ok so the planet coaster version was removed, and in screenshots we saw the pigeon! Which means it’s likely the raven and parrot are also aesthetic flying birds.

PC2 has an ocean theme, which can explain octopus, fish, and Kraken. So it’s possible PC2 could get a dinosaur theme, and a medieval theme with the dragon.

Which means duck, vulture, eagle, lovebird, and macaw are “unaccounted for”. Not removed like pigeon was, and revealed in the trailer. Not part of the aquatic theme which was also revealed. Not fictional/extinct creatures either. And as others have mentioned many times, Hamadryas and Goodfellows are far too specific.

Honestly we haven’t talked about the dictionary in months but it might be the biggest hints we have.

While I'm sitting next to my fan doing nothing to cope with the heat, I've been thinking about the future of Planet Zoo. Every time we discussed each of the previous DLCs, there were always 1 or 2 animals that were often mentioned but that were missing in the pack. Many of those highly discussed animals came in othe DLCs later, but some of those are still missing:

1) Arctic Pack: Arctic fox
2) South America Pack: capibara
3) Australia Pack: Emu and Tasmanian Devil
4) Aquatic Pack: California sea lion
5) South East Asia Pack: gibbon
6) Africa Pack: dromedary and chameleon/cobra
7) North America Pack: American black bear and axolotl
8) Europe Pack: red deer and red fox
9) Wetlands Pack: waterfowl
10) Conservation Pack: ?
11) Twilight Pack: ?
12) Grasslands Pack: Patagonian mara and greater rhea
13) Tropical pack: South American monkey and coati
14) Arid Pack: Hamadryas baboon and African spurred tortoise
15) Oceania Pack: tree kangaroo
16) Eurasia Pack: ?
17) Barnyard Pack: rabbit

So I think the animals with a higher chance to be added to the game since they were highly expected at some point during the history of Planet Zoo are:
1) American black bear
2) Patagonian mara
3) Greater rhea
4) South American monkey
5) Coati
6) Hamadryas baboon
7) African spurred tortoise
8) Tree kangarro
9) Rabbit

And the exhibits:
10) Chameleon
11) Cobra

IF the game is ending soon, I could see the bear as the anniversary animal and a last DLC with the 8 other habitat animals and the 2 exhibit animals.

Most people would be mad at that roster but i love it, since it has everything i need for SA haha although i would really miss a pelican and another waterfowl and of course the secretary which was expected in Grasslands, Conservation, África and Arid so i think it has higher chances than the tortoise to be included.

Eurasia was missing the Palla's cat, markhor and the blackbuck.

Twilight was missing the tasmanian devil and the kiwi that were later added. I think that was the big argument at the time.

Honestly I wouldn’t know if I would cross off waterfowl. We got the swan, but I know I and others still want a duck/ pelican (not technically but shoot close enough). Likewise the swan is a new rig, if it’s like the gibbon we should expect Frontier to use it once more.

But even with the lack of birds I still like the list! Though with Arid I know a lot of people thought we would get a secretary bird or grey crowned crane as well.

Yeah a waterfowl was expected for Wetlands as well (although we got the crane... which it doesn't really count as a waterfowl to me). Pelicand and duck are two of the most requested bird types and have been for a long time, but the secretary is the one that has been in the top of the Metawishlist the longest and that missed it's chance multiple times.

For me anyways, the Wolverine marked off the last mammal I really would have wanted in the first of the 8 packs, so through Europe.

Wetlands - Pelican
Conservation - Tree Kangaroo, Secretary Bird, Spectacled Bear - any of these would have been preferred by me over the Monitor and the Oryx.
Grasslands - Still baffled about no Secretary Bird , Patagonian Mara would've been great for this as well. Perhaps even a Baboon
Tropical - oh wow: Coati, Howler Monkey, Tree Kangaroo, Brazilian Porcupine, there's so much I could put in here.
Arid - once again, Secretary Bird and the hamadryas Baboon - and that's just sticking to the stealth Africa theme.
Oceania - Tree Kangaroo again.
Eurasia - Eurasian Otter, but that's just me because I love otters.
Barnyard - Shetland Pony, Rabbit/Hares, Duck

I am fine with Twilight now since we got the Maned Wolf, Tasmanian Devil and Porcupine, those were the main ones missing for me on this theme.

So....Tree Kangaroo - 3 missed opportunities
Secretary Bird - 3 missed opportunities
Baboon - 2 missed opportunities
Pelican, Coati, Howler Monkey, Spectacled Bear, Patagonian Mara, Brazilian Porcupine, Eurasian Otter, Shetland Pony, Rabbit/Hare, Duck (10 animals total) - 1 missed opportunity.

Of these 13 animals, 5 are from South America. We see where we're going with this.

Here are the missing animals I remember from each pack (from what I remember of YouTube videos and forum lurking):
  • Arctic: Arctic Fox, probably also walrus and musk ox, and I heard a bunch of people were complaining about the lack of penguins, which would have fit a tundra theme.
  • South America: capybara was the biggest one, by far. Maned wolves and sloths were also highly requested. I remember the black howler monkey, golden lion tamarin, coati, ocelot, spectacled bear, and birds were up there. The added animals were all highly requested, too, except the capuchin, which was not the most popular monkey option. I think the Steam reviews were especially low for this pack for two reasons: people wanted more animals in general, and they especially missed the capybara.
  • Australia: People wanted a different animal, like the Tasmanian devil, in place of the dingo, and some wanted the emu instead of the cassowary.
  • Aquatic: People wanted the California sea lion, small-clawed otter, and the American Alligator, as I recall. I'm sure there were also those who wanted ducks and/or pelicans.
  • Southeast Asia: Gibbons and small-clawed otters were greatly missed.
  • Africa: Dromedary camels filled the artwork. A long-legged bird (like the Secretary Bird) was also missed.
  • North America: Where oh where is my dear black bear? 😭 Awesome pack, though. Some were also wishing for a red fox or wolverine instead of the Arctic fox. A few people wish we'd gotten a bird, but I don't remember a lot of discourse around that when the pack was released.
  • Europe: I think the red fox and wolverine were wished for instead of the badger, and a few people also wanted a swan. I remember a lot of European players were upset about getting the fallow instead of the red deer, and the wild boar and wisent were thrown around as potential options if it had been an animal pack.
  • Wetlands: People wanted the red river hog (instead of another ungulate), the grey-crowned crane (instead of the RCC), a duck (replacing the other ungulate), and an African croc (instead of the caiman).
  • Conservation: The absence of the golden lion tamarin, tree kangaroo, and grey crowned crane was brought up sometimes.
  • Twilight: People were mostly upset about getting a skunk instead of the Tasmanian Devil.
  • Grasslands: People wanted the blackbuck instead of the blue wildebeest, many wanted the serval instead of the caracal for a grasslands theme, some thought the Patagonian stuff (rhea and mara) could have worked here, the pack could have used a baboon, and people were missing the secretary bird and/or grey-crowned crane. A lot of people liked the animal selection, though.
  • Tropical: People were upset about the lack of much-needed South American animals. A new world monkey, coati, and scarlet ibis/roseate spoonbill were brought up the most.
  • Arid: Assuming the theme remained centered on Africa, people mostly wanted the baboon and a secretary bird. The spurred tortoise was brought up sometimes as was the honey badger. People also wished the theme could have included other continents and perhaps included the peccary, rhea, mara, perentie, and coyote.
  • Oceania: The tree kangaroo and lorikeets were talked about the most. People also kind of wanted an echidna.
  • Eurasia: The golden snub-nosed monkey, Pallas's cat, markhor, and blackbuck were brought up frequently. Some people also wanted a duck instead of a swan.
  • Barnyard: The duck, rabbit, turkey, and guineafowl were all missed. All have wild counterparts. A few people would have preferred different breeds, but almost nobody wants another domestic pack.

Comprehensive list as always! I will say with the PlanCo dictionary “leak” there may be hope yet for quite a number of these guys. This list as also great at showing how the animals at the top of the meta wishlist made it to the top, especially when you see a lot of the same animals over and over again.

Also it’s gonna be ZooKeeper week as Charlie said, so hopefully, HOPEFULLY, the silence will be broken and we get something to get the ball rolling.

Who got “skipped over” the most: the hamadryas baboon or the secretary bird?
Secretary got skipped in Africa, Conservation, Grasslands and Arid. Baboon got skipped in Africa, Conservation, Grasslands, Arid and Eurasia. So based off this the baboon got skipped the most - but then again there’s a bunch of technicalities, for example for conservation there wasn’t really room for either of them since the roster was pretty stacked full of icons. Plus with Eurasia if they did choose a monkey it would’ve been GSNM so that also might not count as a skip for the baboon.

I still think the baboon has more chances to be included because it’s a more recognizable species and could headline a pack. True we already have the mandrill but it could be just like how the wisent headlined the Eurasia pack when we already had the Canadian bison.

Secretary for sure

Misses: Conservation, Grasslands, Arid, Africa

Baboon misses: Africa, Arid

Tree kangaroo misses: Tropical, Oceania

Coati misses: SA, Tropical

NWM misses: hard, because depends on the species, spider monkey and GLT could've been in Conservation and Tropical, Howler in Tropical.

I'm sorry Charlie but i don't think anyone was expecting the baboon in Eurasia even if it could've fit the region. And i think the hamadryas in particular wasn't expected for Grasslands either that i can recall, another type of baboon might have been. And is not even endangered so wasn't a fit for Conservation either. So that only leaves Africa and Arid really.
