DLC18 discussion and predictions

Everyone wondering why this pack is so weird? There's a clear solution. It's clear that there were two packs that Frontier had planned, a highlands pack (pallas cat, markhor, Andean bear, and baboon) and a scrubland pack (tortoise, dik-dik, and sifaka). However, for whatever reason, they couldn't be completed as two separate DLCs so Frontier just decided to combine them into one final pack and say goodbye to Planet Zoo.
I was going to say exactly that, and even add some more conspiracy - the baboon and tortoise feel like scraps left from the arid pack, which would explain why it was so ungulate heavy if these species couldn't be completed in time. It's also quite clear there was a highlands pack in the making, and then you got some african species and the secretary bird (and black rhino) for a safari pack.

The Goodfellow tree Kangaroo I think was replaced by the Quokka. And South America I believe is deliberately being kept for the sequel, perhaps with birds in mind.

This all adds up to me. The really baffling one is the sifaka, which almost certainly has a unique rig and some highly demanding animations.

I really think there's something to this line of thinking. I thought that if there were two more packs, all possible evidence was pointing to Highlands + Scrublands. The fact that several of the other potential dictionary species matched up with these (Goodfellow for highlands, echidna and secretary for scrublands) seemed to support the theory. Hell, I'd even go so far as to suggest that even the pack artwork is partially a remnant from a standalone highlands pack that just had the party favors added in after the call was made to combine the two.

Reading the way the steam store page for the dlc is written, I'm doubting another dlc is in the plans. It would be an odd way to celebrate the "ultimate zoo" to continue making dlc and adding more career scenarios afterwards.
The "ultimate zoo" with fewer total birds than the number of waterfowl species I saw at one 12-acre zoo in Brooklyn...

Pack is better if not the last. Markhor personal fav. Pallas Cat, Coquerel’s Sifaka and Hamadryas Baboon good. I like the rest, I like any animals added.

But stills feels very very weird if finale pack like ending on a sour note. Not getting to 200 animals? Surely can't end without one/all of the Walrus, Echidna, Secretary Bird, Tree Kangaroo and/or Coati.

Or even one of the other ground/water birds in the finale pack (Shoebill, a Duck, Pelican, Spoonbill, Ibis, Goose, Puffin) after all the requests. Or to round out the roster for me the Musk Ox, Generuk, some Rabbit/Hare, Mara, Howler Monkey or Rhea. (The Chameleon or Cobra exhibit animals perhaps).

Sorry, but with the lack of iconic animals, the game will have an unfinished taste… 😕

Look man, you may like a zoo game without these animals, but let's face it: your opinion is wrong, ok? The game is just useless trash without gray foxes and Chickeraffes

Man does anyone else feel so idk, weird?
Like i was so excited and couldnt wait for the announcement to final come out, but now that its here i feel so indifferent about it.
Final pack where one animal is probably my most wanted for a while, but its the only animal i actively wanted out of these
Definitely feeling the same way. Which is even weirder because I actually kinda like the pack? Haha.

I think a big part of it is that we already pretty much knew all of these animals were coming because of the dictionary leak and the subsequent fix. It wasn't 100% but in hindsight... It really was. Hah. We all had hopes that maybe it wouldn't represent the full roster and they'd squeak in one of the higher-tier picks instead. Because for me? All of these picks are solid but not a single one is "essential" for me.

So I think the ultimate lack of surprise ("oh, guess that was all there was to it") coupled with the lack of key highly-requested species, the tiny free update that doesn't really add much in the way of gameplay, the extended wait between DLC, and this giving off final pack vibes is probably what's causing that. I know that's what it is for me, at least! And I'm sure it will settle but yeah... Weird way to end things for sure.

It almost feels like they went to a few "reasonably highly requested" species and then let the developers pick ones they'd been dying to do for one reason or another. It just seems so weird to have a final pack without any of the top five when they've focused on that part of the list for all but one of the packs since Wetlands!

Reading the way the steam store page for the dlc is written, I'm doubting another dlc is in the plans. It would be an odd way to celebrate the "ultimate zoo" to continue making dlc and adding more career scenarios afterwards.
Yup, I'd tend to agree. That and the name of the pack drive it home for me.

Yeah I could definitely see them having more packs planned and animals in development and then the budget team coming in like "no, we need to restructure to be more cost effective and audience grabbing."

Speaking to everyone generally;
We may be the most vocal and active fans of the game but we gotta remember that frontier is a business that's focused on selling a product. We are not the largest part of their audience, they have to appeal to more casual style players, families with kids, impulse buyers with cute animals too. We are not the only target demographic. People get mad when I say stuff like that usually but that doesn't stop it being true.

Most of the people buying the game are not massive zoo and animal fans like those of us on the forum. Something that may not make sense to us like lack of monkies, low south American representation, no birds in a pack, will not be much of a consideration factor to most of the people frontier is trying to sell to. They have to find a balance between marketable/engaging/enjoyable and pleasing the dedicated community too.
