DLC18 discussion and predictions

Looking back at our last year, I can't fathom the reasoning to prioritize the Eurasia pack (other than the swan and the wolverine if we're being generous), when they already knew they were reaching the end, in detriment of some requested favorites that were finally left out (most I don't even mind either way, I'm not being bitter as it doesn't really affect me).

Well I must say that I’m a bit disappointed that we didn’t get a tree kangaroo or secretary bird, but the roster is decent overall. I firmly believe that this will be the last pack for PZ given its name. Hopefully the FY27 game ends up being PZ2 and they give us aviaries, aquariums, and other highly requested animals that didn’t make it into PZ.

The wild boar, wisent and takin were all frequently requested animals and probably a lot more cost-effective to make.

I suspect that Eurasia started as a mountain pack but they couldn’t quite get the Pallas’ cat and Hamadryas baboon textures right.

Guys I figured out why the Sifaka is here - it can use the gibbon rig! This is one of their best rigs that took a lot of work (and a dedicated brachiation system), it makes sense they'd want to reuse it one last time.

But what about the sloth bear textures? Their fur seems more complicated than the cat and baboon's. I just think Frontier does what Frontier does

If only they’d used it for the spider monkey instead

I mean there were animals mentioned in the dictionary that we didn't get. Goodfellow's and Secretary could reasonably still be expected ... but there are still things that don't add up
I think it does add up though.

They went through the dictionary twice when we noticed there were animal names that weren't in the game. All the animals that were removed from the dictionary ended up being in the DLC. All the ones that weren't removed didn't end up being added.

I don't think it's really rocket science at this point, those didn't get removed because Frontier doesn't have plans to add them to the game. If they had, they would have removed them. Especially given they swiped the dictionary twice, it be weird if two more things we were talking about didn't get deleted by mistake.

I don't think it would work. Spider monkeys move nothing alike gibbons. Honestly I don't think they could do them justic with the current climbing system.

It's the kind of thing I want in a proper sequel. Also I would have liked a squirrel monkey to have morw NWM variety.

Stop trying to rationalize their fear of new world monkeys! (meant in jest, it's all good)
;)😆

There is absolutely nothing that anyone will say that will convince me that Frontier made a good choice including the Sifaka over a New World Monkey, it was just a ridiculously baffling decision.

I mean they move more like gibbons than sifakas do. Gibbons and spider monkeys both brachiate while sifakas don't. The issue is spider monkeys constantly use their tail while climbing (nothing in the game does this). Spider monkeys also primarily walk quadrupedally on the ground, so they would need different walking animations than the gibbons. Sifakas hop on the ground, so they won't they'll need different walking animations too.

EDIT: I'm hoping that with the improvements in AI, that the locomotion in PZ2 will have some upgrades. I think it could be particularly useful with climbing animations, for animals such as the spider monkey. I hope they'll be one of the major selling points for a PZ2 South America Pack or in the base game. Spider monkeys are kind of the embodiment of the quintessential monkey.

sorry for your loss of tree kangaroos buddy </3

we're thinking of commissioning cake for a base of one tho fyi
Can't really lose what I never really had. :ROFLMAO: But still. I can't believe they did this to me on #TreeKangarooTuesday, a fictional holiday that I made up and attempted to make Frontier celebrate multiple times. Sigh...

Anyway. Thanks for the heads up on that potential mod... And definitely count me in as a co-funder on that commission! 🥳🥳🥳

Well, at least we know there are plenty of new animals they can tease us with if and when PZ2 becomes a thing, assuming they keep all the animals from PZ1. Walrus, Secretary Bird, Tree Kangaroo, and more.
Lowland Streaked Tenrec... (okay, yeah, probably never even mentioned on here before in any thread 😆 )
