DLC18 discussion and predictions

What really had me hoping for a 12 animal pack was the fact that we already had a 12 animal pack with grasslands... Well, kind of.
This! The WTE is already pretty underutilized, but the fact that they never did anything like the butterflies, where you take a small, relatively simple critter and include several variants of it, is such a shame. Hummingbirds would've fit perfectly...

Yeah a lot of missed opportunities and unused potential in what is now the final version of this game.

I wonder what the game would've looked like now if they didn't went through that financial crisis.

Tbh probably not too different

The end of the game was always an inevitability regardless of financial woes. Five years is a LONG time!!! At best, I think we would have got two more scenery packs with the same kind of grievances we've always had:

Like a Latin American pack with a monkey and coati sure but something stupid like another mofo'ing sloth in the WE instead of birds

Or a Forest pack with a lovely log cabin aesthetics but STILL too heavy on the carnivores and ungulates

Going into this year, I thought there were only three packs that could really reinvigorate and elevate the game, outside of just supplying the most requested animals:

1. All bird pack

2. Follow-up to Aquatic with more iconic, semi-aquatic staples like the walrus, sea otter, DUCK(!!!)

3. And - no joke - a farm pack which implemented guest interactions and tbh outside of some breed choices, Barnyard really delivered imo

Père David’s deer is the only species with extinct in the wild status. I can’t believe that species with such a significance was not included in zoo game that focuses on conservation.
To be fair, they weren't when the Conservation Pack was released and we did in fact get the other EW species. I think they really could've gone either way with the oryx or deer, both would have made sense and would have been welcome additions to the game. Perhaps it just came down to the oryx being only our second post-launch antelope, while the deer would've been our fourth (and soon to be fifth with the then-upcoming red deer). I would've preferred to see Pere David's deer over the red deer, or especially later over the saiga, but I guess it just wound up being one of those unfortunate species that inevitably got out-prioritized.

So i was going through oceanina mods and thank god we have great quality mods for that region. Echidna looks absolutly fantastic, so does the victoria crowned pigeon, black swan, numbat, bilby and perentie. So those are at least some animals i won't miss didn't make it in... except for the tree kangaroo unfortunally.

Also i don't mean to hate on Frontier's markhor, but this might be one time when i think the mod looks way better than the official animal.

I don't use any mod yet but I was thinking about reaching by myself the mark of 200 animals in Planet Zoo adding 5 south american animals to filling some gaps of key species from this continent (for example coati, ocelot, howler, tamandua, rhea and mara). I hope that these animals mod are good or not too stranger at least. I would like some suggestions of mods, please.

Tamandua and ocelot mods are great. Mara looks a bit off to me and i think it uses some kind of canid as a base (not so sure). Coati is alright, fur needs an upgrade but model is good and they seem like the do go with their tails up and are based on the red panda so they should climb so all that is cool. Rhea's mod texture is weird as well, has fluff instead of feathers and lacks wings, i think it uses the emu or cassowary as base and that's why, i wish it could be re done with the ostrich or at least with new feather textures and wings. There are a couple of howler mods, but unless we get modded sounds as well they will also be missing something important. I also think they would benefit of new fur texture.

But i'm not sure if some of these mods still work because some are quite old and doesn't say that they have been updated.

Maybe now that the official roster is set and done we might see some updated versions of all of them (like deffinitive versiones). I know all the animals you mentioned would be very popular after this, coatis and tamandua in particular i imagine.

The bilby and echidna mods don't fit my standards for mods unfortunately, both are on the aardvark rig which doesn't move like either animal does IRL. The echidna model is very well done at least aside from the fact it has pinnae/external ears (which is super distracting for me haha), but the bilby still looks more like a blue aardvark than a real bilby to me.

My top 5 most wanted animals are echidna, tree kangaroo, perentie, bilby and rock-wallaby. Of those five, the perentie and rock-wallaby are the only ones I think you can make a great mod for using existing rigs and animations (maybe Cake can work their magic). The current yellow-footed rock-wallaby mod is fantastic, one of my favourite mods of all, so no complaints there. The perentie mod was awesome when it released (the patterning work is still really good) but now that we've got a far higher quality varanid model to work with thanks to the water monitor, I really hope we get an updated one sometime.

I use the black swan and numbat out of the mods you listed though, as well as about 15 other Australian animal mods. Mods don't need to be 100% perfect for me to use them (but it's even cooler when they are!), they just need to look and move around believably and not feel out of place with the official game. While I'll always prefer official animals, I love how modding allows me to have all these niche species and alternatives to existing animals that I think I'd never be able to have in-game otherwise, they really make my builds feel so much more real. I love having brolgas, grey kangaroos, hairy-nosed wombats, native waterfowl and so many other animals that are zoo staples here!

Honestly, I agree.
I kind of like the mod a bit more here... When I first saw the Markhor I thought "there's no way that people aren't gonna complain, right?" but then I saw that people actually loved it on the forums and so I decided to not say anything

Narwhaler already promised a remaster and he is the king of remasters so I’m calm about it.

Ocelot is amazing. Rest you need to decide for yourself.

Gabboi enters the room...
Nah honestly both are incredibly talented modders and their remasters are top notch.

I think some aspects of the official Markhor are better than the mod (eg. horns). But Nar nailed the coat colours and majestic look of this animal.

I personally don't like the beard... To me it just looks like wires or something, it doesn't feel like fur. Also I think the overall animal should be stockier. The legs feel either too thin or too long.

I really wanted to like this animal but to me it just looks on par with some of the 2021 designs... Not terrible but also not really the best

Them bears be climbin. I'm guessing a couple other bears climb trees in-game?

If I'm seeing correctly two adult bears have different shapes of markings, which is neat
It looks like it's probably our male and female, with the one in the back looking like it might be bigger/a slightly different model.

Then again, you put glasses on a person and they look completely different to me.

I agree, which is why we never got the other two. However, I do think Barnyard pack was just the kind of energy this game needed for a bit. Something different and based on something long requested. Then they finished the game on a pretty good, bit not amazing dlc which gives us less animals than usual.

I know one redditor mentioned the team had a lot of plans, I wonder what came to fruition or what was put to the wayside. Makes me wonder if the WTE was gonna have birds and they were put to the chopping block. Which then makes me further wonder if that’s from a lack of vision, staff, capability, or a higher up decided that’s best for a sequel.

There are at least three different pattern variations... It's not unique to the spectacled bear: Nile Lechwe, Tassie Devil, Sun Bear, even the Giant Otter from 2020 has a few different chest patterns
