DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

Lol, it would make me 100% boycot buying the pack at full price. I have paid enough for them.
I mean, what other caprines could they add from this region? We already got the two main ones that most people wanted, and I doubt they're going to include something like Bharal or Siberian Ibex

EDIT: I underestimated India's caprine diversity by a long shot.
I say this as a caprine fan: we may be screwed.

Some others could be: Tahr, Himalayan Serow and Argali

I'd say Argali and Siberian Ibex are very unlikely. Others, hmm....

Any bets on what the complex animal in this pack will be, after getting the Sifaka and Bush Dog which quite clearly had a bit more put into them than the rest of the pack I wonder if we will see something similar this time around, the macaque, honey badger and elephant should all be relatively simple clones - maybe one of the other animals is fairly complex although most of the common requests are quite simple clones, maybe there is hope for a pelican?

Would be amazing:love: Still my most wanted animal! If we get a pelican in the pack, I could even live with a third elephant.

I have nothing against caprines but we are good on it. Hope it's time for Indian antelopes and deer.

Let's play a game, pick 3 ungulates you want to see in this pack. I will check back in the evening to add up the score.

My three picks are Blackbuck, Chital, and Gaur

Blackbuck, nilgai, and I'm a bit surprised with myself for saying this one, but axis deer. I've just been particularly fascinated by them lately.

Most things would be fine, though. Gaur is solid, Indian muntjac isn't the ideal muntjac but I'd take it, and I'd even be fine with domestic yak or zebu as a wildcard.

I dont think anyone here ever really disliked ungulates itself. The negative feeling about them imo came mainly from us getting an excessive amount of them for a long time, with very little in terms of other animals, some of which where very underrepresented at the time.
Like if we got 3 animal packs in a row which all have 60-80% primates then people would be equally fed up with them.

And this is just a personal thing, but in my opinion hoofstock are kind of boring to build for, so for me they are never really the most exciting additions to the game. Still nothing against them in real life tho
For me it has also been a quantity thing. I love the North Carolina Zoo’s hoofstock habitats, they are beautiful. As @AndyZoos said the Bronx zoo monorail is fantastic. Even other zoos, like the Franklin Park Zoo in Boston has a beautiful habitat for the Giraffe, Zebra, and Somali Wild Ass.

But here’s the problem, outside of a handful of picks, we have so many ungulates in game I can easily make or remake most zoos. Sure I might be missing the Nilgai, Black Buck, and Peere David’s Deer, and those would all be great animals to have (I especially want that deer, my fave ❤️). However, even without their addition we have enough options we can either have reasonable substitutes, or even go without these animals and not have it effect the overall theme. Are there still additions we can use? Absolutely. Is it as pressing as some of the other roster members? Not in the slightest.

Try to make a bird area. You really can’t do it. We have “””””enough””””” birds for some areas. We have an ostrich for the African Savannah, we got an emu, for European ponds we got the swan. Making an Asian area? You can use the peacock and the red crowned crane. If you are really feeling exciting, you can even make a Caribbean section with flamingos. You can even make a penguin dome! Anything past those specific examples (and a handful of other birds like the chicken) we have nothing. Every continent may now have a bird, but it isn’t the same as every continent having a different ungulate or two for each biome. We are still missing ducks, other cranes, other land fowl. And while it’s never gonna happen for PZ1, a zoo game not having eagles or parrots is like not having a lion or elephant. We are missing some heavy hitters, and the WTE won’t be used.

And the same can be said for monkeys, rodents, reptiles, and don’t even get me started on the exhibit box for amphibians, reptiles, invertebrates, and oh my god fish.

So no, ungulates themselves are not the issue, it’s Frontier favoring them for so long other sections of the roster have fallen behind. It took over 4 years for South America to get its second monkey, and finally get some birds. In that same time we got so many pigs, goats, antelope, and everything else.

I mean if we're getting another elephant Bharal isn't too far fetched.

I'd say Argali and Siberian Ibex are very unlikely. Others, hmm....
I wouldn't be totally against the Tahr, as it looks pretty different from the other caprines we have... But with the markhor already in-game, another caprine from the Himalayas would feel like overkill.

Argali is just another Ovis species, it has a very nice colour scheme which I really dig, but it's a bit too close to the Bighorn we just got.

Bharal is one of my favourite caprines in real life, they have a rather distinct appearance, but since we already have both bighorn and Dall Sheep, I'd say I'm fine without it.

Serow is a unique looking caprine for sure, but I don't like it quite as much as the others

Siberian Ibex... I saw them in a couple zoos IRL, they're not too dissimilar from their alpine cousins so I'd be a bit disappointed if we got this species.

So I was trying to see what's in the background:

What my brain see even though we already have bison AND there is no bison in india:

What my friend saw, as an intelectual:

Ignore my horible elephant pictures but that could be it, I could imagine the shape and trunks there. But what elephant could it be?
Maybe it could also far-fetched be rhinos with heads down like on the bison sketch?

Himalayan tahr or bharal I would absolutely love... ngl
In general I think this pack can be exciting when it comes to the last few pack's "effort" being taken under account. Blackbuck, gaur, asian deer, a crane, smaller felids like fishing cat are some "lower effort" animals I'd love to see in the game, and this pack would easily bring in. I still have a bit of hope that we maaaybe get a pelican, another animal I'd love to see in this pack would be the Hanuman langur but idk if they will make an appareance given we have a macaque already confirmed as this packs primate, but I'd love to see it. I'd also say that bar-headed goose isn't that far-fetched of an animal for a pack like this? I have a bit of hope.
And without being redundant, if it turns out we are getting a second asian elephant ssp (which looks very likely)... yeah no I think that might be the silliest pick for the game in a while, not a fan at all. I think I've made up my mind on this pack being the "South Asia" pack (From Afghanistan to Sri Lanka) but I guess the broader theme of Indomalasia would make more sense if we really are getting a new elephant, given that the current Indian elephant and only other viable option to be added from south Asia, the Sri Lankan elephant, have barely any morphological differences. The sumatran elephant is a bit more "distinct" than their mainland counterparts, but who knows what Frontier is doing?
In my opinion, if we were getting a new "subspecies" (debatable, I guess... but seeing how much taxonomy changes I wouldn't be surprised if the tides turned in a few years time) of an animal already in the game that fits with the apparent theme of this pack, the asiatic lion is right there ahahah

On more high-res pics you can clearly see Elephant outline, trunks and all

Yeh, seems like it, my brain still insists on gaur on something but it's most likely like what, sumatran elephant or something?
If it's India pack then they're counting entire Indian subcontinent, and it's Sri Lankan Elephant. It's a bit darker than Indian and larger, but for me the most boring choice.

Sumatran would be cooler, if nothing, then for their conservation status.

My favorite, that I decided today, is Borneo Elephant, mainly due to being smallest subspecies, and could act as Pygmy Hippo counterpart to Common Hippo.

Sumatrans are also generally hairier, which definitely gives them a unique look

Sri Lankan Elephant captivity stats:
3 in Europe
4 in NA
15 in Asia
1 in OCE

It’s quite specialized pick again I guess.
We already have the saiga antelope and proboscis monkey, we can add the elephant to the “rare in captivity but is still in Planet Zoo” club. I’m still not 100% sure were are gonna get an elephant, but we will see.
