DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

its just a bright neon pink elephant

Did somebody request PINK ELEPHANT DISEASE

I mean, yes. But that kind of stuff fit the vibe of ZT. Planet Zoos is much more "realistic" in it's approach so idk stuff like that it would feel out of place just like extinct animals.
Animal-wise it's more realistic. But the PlanCo universe is silly. I wouldn't mind little Easter eggs, like how Zoo Tycoon 2 had the guests randomly talk to their hand puppets

Ah I miss when we could have fun in our zoo games
Just get Zoo Tycoon 2 on MyAbandonware. It's awesome, and NanoLacen did this awesome mod, Folksy Facelift. Heck, Mjmannella made Forgotten Animals, which brings the Zoo Tycoon 1 animals to Zoo Tycoon 2 (hopefully it's done soon and all bundled together so I don't have too much clutter in my ZT2 file)

Watching some commentary videos. Why is everyone saying - Sri Lankan elephant, must be an India pack! They are separate countries 😅 it's gotta be an Asia or Central Asia pack surely. You can't call it an India pack and have an animal named after a literal other country, like, cmon

I also think it's general Asia pack, but I wouldn't be too surprised if they named it "India pack", but included anything from Indian subcontinent.

Other than that it can be "South Asia" if it's not too similar to SEA pack

I don't think Central Asia fits, that term is usually paired with central steppe and "-Stan" countries.

I hold out hope still, that it's Bornean or at least Sumatran Elephant tho.

It's not Central Asia. The macaque lives exclusively in southern India. South Asia, generic Asia, generic Old World or something with no theme at all are still likely options.

Also, there's still a lot of debate whether there's actually a new elephant in the pack.

There is also the theory that they are just the basegame indian elephant there to get the point of india across

I wonder if the Sri Lankan Elephant would qualify for an India Pack because Sri Lanka is in the Indian Ocean(not stretching at all)
The exact range of the Indian Subcontinent varies depending on who you ask but it includes India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh. If it is a subcontinent pack, calling it the India Pack is a much snappier and more recognisable title to the average person.

That is one explanation for how it could be the India Pack, and as others have said it could also be that the elephants are just Indian elephants. It may instead by a South Asia pack, an Asia pack, or even a mostly themeless pack like the Zookeepers Pack. But it seems feasible that it's India due to the lacking representation of that geographic region

Ideally 3 more, but most realistically just 1. For me, howler or spider, but I'm leaning towards the howler
Personally for me, with the addition of the LT Macaque as an Indian species and topping us up to 6 Asian primates (of course I’d take more - Sulawesi Macaque?! - but I feel this is a good number for Asia), it leaves me feeling this:

1. Madagascar needs the Aye-Aye, really we should have gotten this over the Sifaka. But niche wise anyway it’s pretty far from any other primates even if it is one biologically.

2. Africa needs the Mantled Guereza, this is the quintessential African forest primate for me, far more notable than the vast array of non-descript guenons out there..
The Gelada is also a question mark here, a ZT legacy species and arguably unique and iconic enough to be added even with the Hamadryas in game.

3. As for South America, this is the ‘monkey region’ in the zoo world and arguably should have a decent choice of primates. But what I see a lot of people suggesting for another 4-5 is just unlikely imo. It definitely needs a howler or a spider monkey and I think the howler wins out on three fronts a) easier to make b) more common in zoos and c) sexually dimorphic. So I’d select the Black and Gold Howler Monkey.
Now I also think there’s another omission here that often gets somewhat overlooked but to me is really part of the meerkat, Humboldt Penguin abc squad found in nearly every zoo - the squirrel monkey. They’re very charismatic, very common, a good interspecies animal that can go with most SA species, including the sakis (which the capuchins and howlers couldn’t). So I’d select the Black-Capped Squirrel Monkey. Again, of course I’d love more but I just think it’s unlikely. And personally for me I think marmosets and tamarins are likely out simply on the basis of being too small. Never say never but that’s just what I suspect. They’d maybe work better as walkthrough exhibit animals hopping around and could be mixed like the butterflies?
I think a nice rounded quartet of the capuchin, saki, howler and squirrel monkey gives a nice sensible variation of South American monkeys that are visually unique and common in zoos.

4. Last left field pick for me, probably more so as an anniversary pick as it is a pretty infamous primate: Barbary Macaque. Now I think this is not essential but it is a ZT legacy species, a famous conservation success story with a lot of ongoing projects, a colder climate North-African species that also gives some representation to Southern Europe in the form of the Gibraltan colony. I highly doubt it’ll be a DLC species but I could see it coming as an anniversary species.

Anyway, that’s my realistic view on the primates I think are the most glaring omissions. Sorry langur, snub-nosed monkey, guenon, tamarin fans.

Lacking representation? I'd argue we already have any major zoo animal from that region...
I'd argue we've already got every major zoo animal in the game (barring birds) and probably have for a good while now. It's now about fleshing out the roster to include secondary choices. No Indian monkeys and none of Blackbuck/Gaur/Nilgai is enough reason to justify DLC, in my opinion.
If anyone hasn't yet seen it, I'd highly recommend checking out the thread by @yoav_r exploring the areas still requiring animals, with comparison to the existing biodiversity in these areas. You don't need to agree with every single detail in the post, but I tend to agree that the main areas still lacking are India, PNG, the amazon and Patagonia.
