DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

Excuse me, But, There won't be more Exhibit Animals. and yet, the Fishing Cat is a better option
Nah, I think the gaur would be better. It's a striking animal, complements the forests if India
No, both are redundant and unnecessary options. "It will be a better model," then fight to have the West African Lion updated.
We have been since 2020. So far only 3 animals have had model updates:
  1. Binturong
  2. Dhole (for some reason)
  3. Malayan tapir (took several years)

The striped hyena got enough of a remodel to warrant new icons. I also recall dholes and black rhinos getting model edits (but not enough for new icons AFAIK). That said, remodels are indeed uncommon. I do also believe that roster slots shouldn't be used as a way to enable the idea of paying for re-models. That just seems slimy.

I forgot about the hyena...
But yeah, nobody wants to replace the Lion, we just want a better model. I think some have just given up completely, though. I know I'm kinda giving up for base game updates

The clouded leopard got a rig update which is even more work than a model update

Even so, if Planet Zoo 2 exists, it is likely that they will update all of them, and as I said, I don't care about the Model, if they eventually go through changes

It's better that both are in the same DLC than to exclude one from the other (easily The Pygmy Elephant and The Hog Deer could be replaced)

No, both are redundant and unnecessary options (And I say It, being Elephants' #1 Fan). "It will be a better model," then fight to have the West African Lion updated.

I want the Asiatic Lion YES for a good lion model but also just because I like the animal. I want to build habitats for them. They’re unique enough to warrant inclusion, as they fill a nice that the other lion does not (being from an entirely different continent). I’m really excited about the possibility of their inclusion.

In terms of the elephant, sue me I just like newer models and am interested to see what Frontier does with the elephants considering the base game models look a little worse for wear.

We'd hope so, but there's also the possibility they just port it over. JWE 1 had the models ported over to JWE 2, and they looked outdated compared to the newer animals

There may still be a chance. For now, it's something I'm not complaining about (although I don't have the game in my hands, I plan to use every animal).

Well see, that's the thing. This isn't just a new wish, people have wanted model updates for the base game for years. The male lion is the biggest one, but several other animals have been asked to be updated, including the Bactrian camel, the American bison, the bears, the black wildebeest, the timber wolf (which is my personal most wished for).
When you put them next to later animals, they look weird. It throws a lot of people off and some consider them unusable. Updating them wouldn't harm anybody and would actually generate some goodwill between the company and the fans

I think some large carnivores are good to sell packs and provide some variety for habitat building in each animal pack. However, I don't really want the Asiatic Lion before the African lion gets an update. It would be weird to me for the 'good' lion not to be from Africa. After that, it's an animal that I'm kind of neutral towards but more ok with if the general public would like it. I'm not too sure in this case, but I think big carnivores generally sell.

I've already explained my reasons for why the Asiatic Lion isn't a good choice.
In short, it's been no longer classified as a subspecies for eight years, and instead has become a population of Northern Lion (just like the West African Lion).
It's practically recycling the lion

We have the Bengal tiger and the Siberian tiger. We also have the West African Lion for whatever reason. Those studies are split, with some agreeing with that and others believing we should have several subspecies

At least we have 1 Lion. And ever since the game was released, it's been something to raise my eyebrows (a bit unnecessary that they have more than two subspecies). Same goes for the Grizzly Bear and the Himalayan Brown Bear.
And we don't need to repeat more than one. Zoo Tycoon for Xbox did that, and almost no one remembers it anymore.

The base game was a big fiasco to begin with. A lot of people don't use the Lion, so to them we don't have a lion. Nobody wanted the HBB, it should've been the EBB. Subspecies aren't bad if they look different and have different roles and niches.
The Asian lion is different than the African in looks and distribution, just like the Bengal is different than the Siberian.
If they just update the lion to be a generic lion and have slight model changes, that would satisfy a lot of people. But since it's likely they won't update it, the next step is asking for a new one
