DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

I know I’m in the losing camp here. And I know that most people think any ‘reskins’ or ‘clones’ (or whatever we’re calling them now) are not worthy additions. And that is also a fine opinion.
It’s simply what species I want to see in game. Whether or not the African Lion looked good, I’d still want the Asiatic. I’d want them both in PZ2. I think they are both brilliant animals to have, and give us as players versatility to what kind of lion habitat we want to build.
Same with the Eurasian Brown Bear, Sumatran Tiger, Masai Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebra.
Same as how it WAS with the American Flamingo.
I think most ‘clones’ add value in one way or another. And I’m happy to get any new animals in game at all!
I'm with you 100%, and thank you for voicing the alternative viewpoint!

What is "unnecessary" (idiot word) to one is treasure to another. I actually think the base game elephants are very bland and I am hopeful and excited to see what they can do with one now. Also the Sri Lankan elephant (if that was the species chosen), while very genetically similar to the Indian elephant, is not genetically identical and Sri Lanka is a separate country, and that holds important meaning to some people (eg me). So everyone can hate it but saying it's unnecessary or noone wants it or "it's the Indian elephant again" is actually just wrong and annoying. Everyone has their favourites and least favourites, that's all that's going on here. As usual...

I don't care that much about the blackbuck. There, I said it.

I also feel the Asiatic lion would inspire me to build a very different type of lion habitat. It also provides another major London Zoo species for anyone interested in attempting a contemporary recreation (maybe me??)

I'm guessing they'll be moving something new into at least one of those new habitats...

Sidenote: I wish more Planet Zoo players put animals in random spots, or multiple areas of a zoo with different habitats/habitat styles. It's such a fun way to build lore!
It’s funny because that’s exactly what I am doing with my new zoo. There is an enclosure which I would like to house Asian lions (it isn’t huge so my lore is that it is an elderly pair and a new enclosure is planned in the long term.

If we don’t get them in the next DLC, the striped hyena that are currently in there will stay. But the lore is that it is the former lion enclosure and the viewable indoor housing will get tortoises as it’s a bit big for hyena housing.

Oh yeah for sure! Most zoos arent 100% perfectly organized into neat sections.

Building the perfect zoo of your dreams ofcourse is a more than valid playstyle.
But personally i think the thing that really makes a project feel real and come alive is to purposefully not make it perfect, because real zoos arent either

Fishing cat would awesome... If they fish. They haven't added new enrichment ítems in ages so i don't have my hopes at. So they either included in the pack half baked versión like the sifaka or is not an option.
I mean we got the underwater feeder already and the jaguar already uses it. So i would expect that they would add that to the fishing cat aswell.
The beaver pool also could be an option. Over time they added a couple "random" animals that can use it like the coyote, sloth bear and swan. I for sure can see a fishing cat having a little stalking and pouncing animation with it

Don't raccoons have a special animation when near shallow water? Maybe the fishing cat could get that to simulate its behavior

Definitely! I guess, for me, my "dream zoo" would include little quirks like that. Haha. I love the realism of it all.

That presentation from the other day got posted. Nothing new on the Planet Zoo front, and nothing to read into specifically about DLC or anything like that but... A few interesting nuggets:
  • The new unannounced CMS game is still "in development and on track" for release in FY27 (sometime between June '26 and May '27)
    • Full development team now but looking to add more team members
    • By its release it will have been in development for ~3 years (~2023)
  • PC2 has sold 500k+ since release. In contrast, PZ had sold over 1 million units at this point. But seems like its shifting positively... And they're planning on releasing some PDLC "in the future."
    • They noted that a learning from PC2 was that they "moved a little bit away from the audience" and that they're taking that into account for JWE3. Assuming they're referring to some of the redacted features, PC1 themes, etc. Hopefully they don't forget about learning this whenever a PZ sequel may or may not be coming.
  • They referred to PZ as a "benchmark" for their nurture strategy due to its "long-term monetization."
    • There's also an interesting verbal flub that happens right around the 22:15 mark related to PZ. Probably nothing because he had just said "PC1" and "PC2" but... Interesting that they referred to it as "PZ1."

What presentation? what do you mean?

I know, but it is likely we get a generic Asia pack the more I think about it. They would finally give the Philippines some representation. Northern Luzon Cloud Rat would be even better :(
I mean it could be but india is more likely based on what we know
The clouded leopard got a rig update which is even more work than a model update
I thought it was just the jump animation rework
We have the Bengal tiger and the Siberian tiger. We also have the West African Lion for whatever reason. Those studies are split, with some agreeing with that and others believing we should have several subspecies
I don't think there's been any studies that refuted the position put by the IUCN that only 2 "African" lion (neither American nor steppe) subspecies exist
The fact that the IUCN agreed on a position usually means its pretty certain they can close to a decade behind in terms of accuracy also at the time of the base game release the bengal and siberian were still generally considered separate it has been 5 years since then alot has changed in taxonomy.
