DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

Im suprised noone (atleast i didnt see anyone) brought up the idea that this very well could still be an old world pack. An asia pack still seems the more sensible guess, but i think its still a possibility that the last 3 are african or european

Would you take a sable, a Japanese Marten or another Asian mustelid instead of the raccoon dog?

Sulawesi Macaque of course has the advantage that Naruto is world-famous.
Yellow throated marten would be my pick for its versatile biomes and range. Also i had a very cute interaction with a super curious one at tierpark berlin of me wiggling some leaves on my side of the fence and it was playing back by jumping around and pawing at it.
But yeah i think any marten would be cool

I think what's going on is that - at least in terms of the roster - we're all in a long term relationship with Frontier. And in those first few years, you start to pick up on your partner's weird quirks, but you look the other way or more attractive traits take focus:

"Okay, so five new animals per pack at a fourth of the price of the base game, a little steep, but hey look at all the cool new scenery and penguins too!"
"Huh, no waterfowl in a wetlands pack...eh, whatever, I love capybaras!!!"
"So PZ doesn't have flying birds even though there's a walkthrough aviary, okay, a little odd...but omg maned wolf and caracal!:love:"

But over time, you start to grapple with the fact those quirks are more like features, problematic traits they are either unwillingly or unable to change...
"Wow nice porcupine! That's...that's a lot of ungulates..."
"Cool, a swan! You really needed more hoofstock huh..."

And then, finally, one day, after addressing your concerns and having those conversations, and finally come to the realization they're who they've always were, you just kinda snap:

"YOU KNOW WHAT F#$%^ YOU AND YOUR LACK OF A COATI!!!! ANOTHER ELEPHANT???? HOW FREAKIN' HARD IS IT TO FOLLOW A WISHLIST WE'VE BEEN UPDATING DAILY SINCE 2021, YOU TEA-SIPPING, HOLLY JOLLY HOLIDAY, HOGWARTS SOUNDING DORKS!!!!"

Not saying I'm there, I'm holding judgement and thought Americas was alright, but...the longer this goes on, the more apparent the gaps in the line-up become.

Well, aside from the elephant in the room ('scuze me :>), I think this pack is shaping up somewhat decently so far, but I do think these last three picks could make or break it for me. The ratel, whatever this monkey turns out to be, and the deer are all solid picks, even if the monkey is the only one that really excites me personally. Not my first pick for a deer since it's yet another larger temperate species (I would have preferred a more southern tropical species or at least something small like a muntjac), but it's still a fun choice, one of my favorites from the modded ZT2 days (thanks Artiodactlya mod : p )

Even putting any bias I have for birds aside, I think the biggest gaps in Asia's roster now are waterfowl, landfowl (Frontier are you keeping every wild galliforme locked in your basement or something where the hell are they), and to a lesser extent, a proper Indian savanna antelope, so I'd go with something like this:
Ratel
Unknown Monkey
Bornean Elephant
Pere David's Deer
Mandarin Duck

A pheasant (Temminck's Tragopan is my favorite pick, but golden and great argus are pretty solid too)
Blackbuck

But man, that elephant does sting. I was hoping it would at least be a Sri Lankan one or something to replace the unusually tiny base game Indian elephant in my zoos, but then we get the subspecies known for being small lol. One of my favorite animals IRL, but not one I ever felt any need to have in-game.

Very unlikely to see ducks, as the leak indicates the deer and elephant are the pack's only animals with the aquatic biome tag

I'm calling it: this pack is going to stink. The elephant doesn't give me any more hopes for the next few animals, and Asia is pretty devoid of interesting animals for me other than Blackbuck and maybe cranes... Which we already know to be excluded from this pack.
We may still have a chance to see the Blackbuck but everything else? It's gonna be boring at best and Sumatran tiger+ Asiatic Lion+ yak at worst.

Unless of course their game metrics showed them that the swan wasn't being used that much and that stopped them from going further down that route?

Of course, there's not going to be one single reason why we haven't seen ducks yet, obviously there would be a multitude of reasons; but perhaps the numbers ended up being so dramatic that it caused a course correction in that regard?

(Doesn't mean I agree with it though, I just consider it a likely candidate for the list of reasons why we haven't seen one yet)
That would make sense, but it makes me wonder how it compares to the other animals added into the Eurasia pack. I know the peacock and other birds added early on were popular, so it makes me wonder if this is an issue if the swan being added late into the games lifespan.

I mean we are way past the point of this DLC will add a kangaroo, rhino, capybara, polar bear, and a penguin! As far as the general public goes maybe the Eurasia pack (or a number of these later packs) just aren’t as popular?

It does make me curious, as the mute swan has the same draw of the peacock. Just slap it into a box and it looks half decent. However the mute swan came out for $10 about 3-4 years into the games development, after over $100 of DLC has been released.

I was focusing on wishlisting and not predictions but that's still a good point (unfortunately). I wouldn't mind a stork, a second crane (haha nevermind), or even a second pheasant to replace it (or if two birds are just too insane of a concept to do again then screw it throw in a chevrotain or another primate lol)

Honestly the thing that bugs me the most about the elephant is that if you put in an animal that is so obviously just a better looking replacement for a basegame species, why would you start with an elephant of all things.
Im not even that upset that one of the spots is given to essentially a paid remaster, at this point im used to having one or two big duds each pack, but like the elephants really arent what comes to mind first when thinking about which base game animals needed a replacement the most.

But im curious to see how it will look compared to the indian.
I kinda suspect its gonna be another flamingo situation, where the basegame animal doesnt strike you as bad looking but then you put it next to the new one and it looks awfull
