DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

Macaque: Great, finally a common asian monkey
Blackbuck: Also great. Its kinda like the rhea where its needed and very usefull but nothing really exciting.
Honeybadger: Nice animal, nothing i was dying to get but is cool
Deer: Sorta similar to the blackbuck, an asian deer was needed
Nilgai: Nilgai are super cool, but idk if i needed it, the blackbuck and the deer here, thats alot of mid-large filler ungulates. I think one of them should have been the muntjac to vary things up
Tanooki: Nothing i really needed to be honest, its fine. Atleast i cant sleep safe and sound knowing this is probably the last dog, RIGHT? Idk what else they want to do at this point
Elephant: Yeah idk what to say that hasnt been said already. Should have been literally anything else

Its a decent middle of the road animal pack. I dont think its amazing but also not horrible either.
Although not having a bird is just a kick in the gut honestly

But 3 monkeys back to back? That's insane.
Baboon in Zookeepers, saki in Americas, and now macaque in Asia
Definitely! We're on the right track there. A bit sad we had to wait for DLCs 18-20 to see it happened but better late than never.

I'm saying it now. I'm expecting Safari to be the next pack with a big focus (if not entirely) on Africa. Maybe we'll have another monkey like the Olive Baboon or the Mantled Guereza. I'm full of hope.

I would have gone with a muntjac over the Pere David's Deer, frankly, and I would have expected Frontier to do so too given how common it is in England (especially as an invasive species) and its potential for mixing with birds and even the red panda. The blackbuck and nilgai are fine but both have a reputation in NA as roadside zoo/safari park animals rather than things you'd see in accredited zoos. And the less said about the elephant and raccoon dog the better.

I'm also, again, skewed as an American who builds based on North American zoos--not a single one of these animals are common in North American zoos (some are entirely absent, and the lion-tailed macaque is being phased out and is only at one or two zoos), whereas animals like the muntjac, Demoiselle crane, mandarin duck, and golden pheasant are extremely common. And at this point you have to imagine that Frontier is intentionally avoiding heavily-requested and easily-makeable (existing rigs) birds in favor of relapsing on its worst habits of ungulate/carnivore spam.
I think you're a bit harsh with the Pere David's Deer. It's a huge conservation success as an extinct in the wild species which is now present in many reserves in China thanks to the efforts of zoological institutions, and there's some value in having this kind of animal. It's not as ubiquitous as the muntjac but it's still very much present in zoos in both Europe and NA, with 60-ish holdings in Europe and it's present in quite a few important US zoos like Bronx, Omaha, Memphis, or Lincoln Park zoo according to zootierliste.

I understand your disappointment about the other ungulates, I wasn't aware about their situation in the US, but as a European I'm really happy with them and you can't really fault them for giving animals which are very common in EU zoos either.

I'm afraid Frontier just doesn't want to give us many birds because there's gonna be a Planet Zoo 2 with aviaries/aquarias as the new advertised feature and that's gonna be their main selling point. Which just wouldn't make sense if there was enough birds already in Planet Zoo 1. But that's just speculation at this stage.

Hell yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable result! I LOVE THIS PACK

This is sooo wrong, there are phobias of every single type, I have a phobia of deep water and catfish, so people can’t post fotos and talk about deep water and catfish anymore now? Bit extreme
No that's not what I said at all. In your post, which I decided only to remove, you called people "whining arachnophobes".

That is making light of the situation. Would you like someone to call you a "whining Gatopsarophobe"? There are rules on this forum about flaming other users, rules that after all this time you still don't seem to have understood. So to make it clear for you:

Someone talking about something you have a phobia of is fine.

Someone making fun of, or belittling you for having a phobia is not fine.

By actual species lists, the average zoo in my experience has a comparably even ratio of birds, mammals, and herps. But even the ones with a large mammal focus still have a far greater share of birds than PZ.
Yeah but having 40 lizard species in some backyard cabin in your zoo does not a focus make. For example in most zoos aviary birds tend to be relegated to a row of small aviaries close to the entrance, and like 90% of the zoo's area is big mammal exhibits. New zoos and zoos with a lot of budget in modern daydo tend to have larger naturalistic aviaries as centerpiece exhibits, but that is still a process in progress that will take years to complete.

Do you remember how, before the release of Americas, a photo of a sheep appeared on some website—one that wasn’t shown anywhere else?

Do you remember the name of that online game store?

Maybe they have some extra images this time too, but I can’t remember the website address.

Genuine question: is there a zoo game where the biodiversity relative to real-life zoos isn't massively skewed towards large mammals? Excluding the dinosaur ones, obviously.
The reason for why it's not is simple, the majority of people buy zoo games for the same animals the majority of people go to the zoo for. Real life zoos struggle with it as much as zoo games.

I agree that it isn't always fun and that for people like us who want to really to recreate the zoo feeling it's annoying that we'll most likely never will be able to, but it's not surprising that it is this way.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Happy Birthday :)

Happy birthday @SanRazo !

Its your birthday? Well, congratulations🎂🎂🎉🎉🎉. May you have many more
Thank you all!! Much love and a great birthday gift today! Love my PZ fam!

Now about the pack! This is about as good as an Asian pack roster can be without having a bird and having an elephant waste a slot so I’m very happy! Glad we have the Indian ungulates and the tanuki!
