Do Imperial ships get destroyed in Fed space?

I was thinking about how I read that Engineers are unlocked in Federation space... but I am currently gunning for the Imperial ships, already have a courier.

If I take one of them to Federation space will I be automatically shot down? No big deal if its true, I have other ships.

The ship type makes no difference. Pledging to a Power play power; can get you attacked anywhere; especially if you are outside your powers systems.

This used to be true but it's no longer the case. Even if you are pledged to a power, you won't get attacked by NPCs unless you are actively engaging in PowerPlay (shooting at ships or carrying PP cargo). Occasional CMDR attacks are possible but very, very rare - it's much more likely to get attacked "for lulz" than because of faction alignment.

Ship type definitely makes no difference.
