Do you need to core mine to get void opals?

Not seen any on the surface. I've had to explode rocks for all of mine.

Core is pretty much the only way to get enough, not sure about the mining laser but ive seen them on the surface but its only going to be one bit, take forever

You either need to core mine, or pirate someone who has.

(Piracy is kind of like surface mining, right? You shoot the target a bit, but not enough to completely destroy it, and you get loot.)

Yeah i had some core mine me the other day, good thing i only do 12 at a time haha

This is one of those annoying cases where old Youtube videos show surface Void Opals from older versions of ED, which is apparently no longer a thing. I've only ever gotten them from cores.
