Do you use Voice Attack?

I fly VR with dual T.16000 joysticks. I use VA and Verity to do the mundane secondary tasks like request docking and operate the landing gear. The time critical functions are programed on the buttons on top of my joysticks. The secondary functions that are usually handled by VA are backed up on the buttons on the joystick base. I have encountered times when voice commands could not be used, like when I had a bad cold or the day they were testing the fire alarms in my condo.

As I understood the VA is viable for VR, just because there's no way to see keyboard. So purpose it pure practical. And have not much about incoming future and talking computers.
No, I am not using it. I believe that pressing buttons is faster.

Nope.

1. I don’t use 3rd party software as a general rule.

2. I don’t play with my sound on half the time.

3. I don’t want to talk to my computer.

4. Combined with in-game voice chat, VA users sound like they have Tourette’s when they’re playing.

5. It doesn’t do anything for me I can’t already do for myself.

6. I don’t want/need guided tours of nebulas, even if narrated by John DeLancie - who is hilarious.

Typing lessons eliminate the “need” to see the keyboard. These are available in most public schools, between 3rd and 7th grades.

Geek Goggles are only cool for a few hours, then the novelty wears off.

I used to have a bunch of detailed VA tasks that I hand crafted, but with the FSS, new mining stuff, etc. I let it go.

I'm having trouble getting the covas volume levels to match the VA levels.

If Tricia Helfer would voice a set I'd probably get back into it.

Menu navigation with tabs or WASDF is manure design (there is this thing called a mouse that has been around since last century - oh and before you console players whine about no mouse, join the master race already you plebs). VA is nice to automate ->^>> excrement design, but it requires a revisit whenever there is an interface change.

I still have issues with menu 2 (comms) hanging up everything after a mission update, and that kind of bug is a huge disincentive to monkeying with VA imo.

I guess it's fair to say I really enjoyed it at the beginning because it made the game less of a chore and gave it more personality.

Yeah i didnt understand that either.
I did have VA once hit the bail out button when i sneezed playing IL2, but its pretty good at separating normal conversation from commands.

No, because my wife would give me scornful looks. Rightly so.
Likewise, though I might give them to myself just as well. Don't get me wrong; it seems rather neat, but isn't really for me. Playing from the couch in the family room on the home entertainment system, both this and VR would be an interesting novelty, but a bit impractical.

Nooooooooooope.

My experience with voice-controlled technology (Siri, Alexa, in-car navigation systems, etc) it they are overrated and exasperating. Not worth the trouble, IMO. Buttons are easier, faster, and when it comes to flight sims, more immersive.

Besides, it’s annoying AF when you’re on the comms with someone who keeps shouting voice commands during a fight.

As for voice packs, I only use the ones sold via the Frontier store. I’m quite fond of the Carina one right now (because it’s freaking Mirina Sirtis from TNG).

You have people passing by saying 'engage hyperdrive'? Where the heck do you live!?!

I'm more worried about those outside hearing me... 'shoot the f*cker' (for power to weapons).
Not quite, in fact I don't know since usually the double glazing mufflers it enough that I can't hear what it is... But VA seems to recognise the chatter and occasional bird sounds randomly as "select target ahead" or "lights on"...

I get that too, even music or a heavy sigh (a lot of those in this game) often gives false triggers - usually Flight Assist Off - just when I don't need it :)

I use Voice Attack to automate boring stuff.
Like filling my cargo hold with fortification.
And screen grabbing traffic reports when a system is under attack by botters other automation enthusiasts.

If it comes to catching random talks, it is definitely a problem in a noisy environment (I don't have one luckily). There is one function in VA which I find helpful: stop listening. When I say "Thanks" or "Dismissed", it stops listening, won't react to any command. To activate it again I have to say "Computer". Pretty funny when my gf asks me stuff:
  • Is there any ketchup left?
  • Dismissed. No, we are out.
I believe it would actually look like this if we were really living in a space ship.
