Newcomer / Intro Docking for newbies is a nightmare (dev's U need to do something)

please don't make it any easier than it is.
Go in the hole.
Look for your number while drifting in.
Deploy Landing gear.
Barrel roll (not on still axis, swing in like the outside of a barrel) sideways-diagonally forward to your slot.
Stop above it.
Translate down.
Adjust position as needed.

Look at what most can get to grips with in a day or so..... Then think of a real pilot landing on an aircraft carrier....Or a jumbo on a runway...
Seriously ...Now that's hard and reality.....that takes years to learn ...That makes ED easy really

Ok it seems we have found the issue, or rather my son did. It seemed that my yaw left and right were not working (i've been using a joystick) he clicked escape twice (maybe once did it) and that got them going and he landed it in seconds, i can now do the same. Not sure what the hell was going on, maybe io changed something wiothout realizing, maybe a bug i dunno but it's fixed. A day of massive frustration seems over, appreciate the ideas etc.

LOL ...No wonder you were struggling ....... That would make it hard for sure :)

This version is worse. If you are a newbie like me it's frustrating to the point i just can not be bothered after spending 6 hours going back and forth getting to a new station and trying to land.
It looks such a great game and it's such a shame so please change this, thanks.

I thought there were tutorials on learning how to be a better pilot and i thought how to dock was part of it ?

I think key to docking is to be comfortable with your controls first, i.e. really take time in the cannisters mission and find out what configuration suits you best, defaults might not suit you (whichever control system you use) and it's pointless struggling. I use KBM and it took me several hours and several tries, and bouts of exasperation and almost ragequitting, before I found something that's intuitive and comfortable for me (and it's a really odd setup compared to default).

The next thing is to be able to use lateral, forward/back and up/down thrusters easily and comfortably. When you're homing in on the landing pad, it makes a huge difference in ease if you can slickly move on a "plane" (forward, back, side-to side) and go up/down without needing to roll or pitch.

Once you've got that down, docking gets easier as you do it more. It's an essential part of the game, I think, because it completes the sense of immersion (i.e. the psychological sense of "coming to rest" after whatever exciting, stressful thing you've just been through, is golden).

Docking is really easy here. The main issue most players have is that they don't use all thrusters. Seriously, fly just above the docking platform, use thrust down to close in, adjust with thrust left/right and forward/reverse until you're exactly above it. Level the ship out again, thrust down.

As I have said the issue is sorted, seems like the left and right yaw buttons where not working for some reason, maybe user error, maybe they got resigned some how, maybe a glich

As soon as I worked out the thrusters, docking was a piece of cake. I too have had a few bugs when landing at the smaller stations. I get permission, fly to the assigned pad and it wont let me land. A quick cancel and another request and it's all good. Hopefully my HOTAS turns up this week, then it's back to learning it all over again. How many here have accidentally hit the turbo boot instead of the kill thrust  Luckily I survived with 10% hull integrity.

Happened to me too at first

I had the hardest time docking as well at first. Like you, it wasn't the Coriolis spinning that was the problem. It was getting oriented on the pad. First I had to understand that you needed to be pointed a certain way (your back engines facing you). Then I found out that my yaw controls weren't mapped. After I got them mapped, it was a lot easier. You can use roll and pitch in place of yaw but it's a big pain.

Pleased for you :) Maybe next time consider some of these possibilities first before blaming the game and demanding it's changed?

Well maybe it's me being a dumb so and so then , but i can get threw the doors no problem, i can find the number, i hover over it and nothing happens, then i get shot down for loitering, watched about 4 you tube's and the schematic of the ship does not come up

Watch a trader on twitch.tv

we land more often than anyone.

My first docking attempt were not so brilliant, it involved a lot of people who did not enter the docking bay so there was a long line. When I finally got my turn I didn't notice that I was assigned a NUMBER... I just saw a pad lit up and headed for that... which resulted in a crash, warning for obstruction, another crash into a ship attempting to dock... and then shot down by the station.
