Docking in Open Play mode. Is it always like this?

Just what use is the 'Open Play' option if you have to log off and then log back in to 'Solo' mode each and every time you want to dock at a station/outpost?

No matter the system, not once have I ever been able to dock in the open play mode. It's hardly conducive to immersion.

Er never had this issue myself, always play in open. Not sure how that is even possible! Probably need to submit a bug report/ticket.

Get away from populated areas, you wont have that problem.

Why not? The dock is occupied. So no space for you. Wait or go elsewhere.

Are you still around the starter systems? Historically, those are the only systems where enough people hang around that this keeps happening. Go a few systems out and it is far less likely to happen. It has happened to me once in over a year.

You don't have to switch to another mode, you could simply wait in line, as you'd do in reality if you pulled up to a station that was really busy....just saying...I find it more immersive to have to sit and wait in line.

Just to check. You do make sure that you are within 7.5km of the station before requesting docking permission?
Outside that radius it will always refuse, no matter if there are spaces or not.

The only time i am refused is when trying to dock a medium size ship at an outpost because they typically only have 1 medium pad. Never had any problems with bigger stations or small size ships at outposts.

The only other peculiarity about docking in open is that in populated systems there is always that one guy.
I am leaving the starport in my battle anaconda and suddenly
*WHAM*
*Viper rams me*
Me: "Hey Viper, why are you ramming me?"
Viper: "Its a classified Federal operation"

But stuff like that makes it fun.

It's so far only happened once to me(its only been a week of play). In evirate. It also was the first time I talked to a person in game, who also pointed out my keyboard fail of using caplocks.

This is actually quite problematic when the cmdr on the pad goes afk or is just outright ignoring you when you need to land on that specific outpost to complete a mission objective.

I think the solution to that is that the station pad should automatically lower your ship into the station after you are idle for 30 seconds. That would free up the pad for someone else.

This is going to be the lamentation of every Cutter pilot during future CGs. Calling it now. ;)

Why? If pilots of large ships dont have any issues now then they wont have them when landing the cutter. Large stations have a lot of pads.

I have only had this twice in 12 months. That was in very busy systems. To alleviate I would suggest moving to somewhere that is not so populous.

Not yet been denied docking at an outpost myself. Always play in open and hang about the Lave cluster mostly.

Like that python pilot who decided to take a nap or something, as was occupying an outpost docking pad for 4 hours (!). And we got instanced with him every single time. Fun times.

The medium landing pad at Stepstone outpost during the CG there was pretty much always occupied. Other than that, I think I've only experienced it once or twice.

I've had to wait quite a number of times at outposts with medium ships, but you can see the blocking ship leave and immediately request again. My wait time hasn't been too bad so far. Then again, I never got instanced with a sleeping Python either.
