Does "taking a dive" on missions affect influence?

Is there any validity to monkey wrenching a faction by taking it's missions, and purposely failing them?

For example, if I accept a job to transport 27 tons of tea to Alioth, and then throw a Boston Tea Party in the station no-wake zone, jettisoning the cargo-. Does it affect the faction's system influence? I get that it lowers my favorability to that faction.

Any agent provocateurs out there with Project Mayhem experience?

From what I remember it used to - then that was fixed - as it was too effective a way to tank a Faction's influence (for no real effort).

I would tend to think it far too easy to exploit so no it would only be your reputation to that faction. Although unconfirmed it would be a very bad oversight to allow failing a mission to alter the BGS in anyway. Think how easy it would be to kneecap a player faction group.

Bah.. ninja'd .. see above lol.

Excellent, thank you all. I will check out that other thread, Schlack.

Edit: Deliberate failure was what I was wondering about. Dump mission critical cargo and blow it up. Let assassination targets escape. Et cetera. The VIP passenger scenario sounds like a surefire loser, if it works.

I don't need to do this, mind you. I was just curious.
