Does vive also have color banding issues?

I've asked numerous people who own Vive, but they seem to ignore my question on if they get color banding too.

So can anyone who owns a Vive let us oculus users know if you guys also have the color banding issue please??
It is VERY noticeable and severe around nebula's and halo's.

looks like this in case you're wondering what exactly I am talking about: https://forums.oculus.com/community...on-dark-scenes-shadows-256-colour-mode-effect.

Thanks
Problem generally is that lenses are bending light coming from a screen that is not shaped appropriately, pixel cells can't be perfectly bend so red/green/blue might be 'slightly' out of shape, which at least as I see it combine to give that feel?

This is not a distortion problem, it is a color low-bit gradient issue. If it was what you are saying the Vive users would have the issue too.
Here's a better visualization of the problem:: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colour_banding#/media/File:Colour_banding_example01.png

scale and shimering, quick look on vive threads...

So each have their own set of problems. Me thinks me wait for second gen hmds

HMDs will all improve with time. I'm hopeful that the colour banding will be fixed, if it is possible in firmware or software.

All the Rifts seem to show the colour banding, but it seems some Rifts are worse than others, and some users are more sensitive to it than others.
And all programs seem to suffer the same way - I can see the same banding in Lucky's Tale and Eve:Valkyrie but it doesn't draw attention to itself - its only in really dark scenes like ED's space that we see the worst effects.

If there is a serious hardware issue that causes the colour banding then it'll be second-gen headsets that we need.
Unitl then, enjoy the immersion that VR brings, don't worry about the colour banding so much :)

Well you should be able, at least with nvidia to set it to 10 bit colour?
that said I've read that the lens exaggerates these issues?

Would make a nice Christmas present fix the banding and give us back beautiful color like runtime 5 with DK2. Merry Christmas

Amen brother. Would be lovely.

Actually I don't have any problems with the colours... I see the banding too but neither really worries me that much. Water off the proverbial duck's back.

As I mentioned in the other thread on this, Frontier support has said they will look into this issue. All we can do is wait. As the color issues come and go, I see no reason it won't get fixed. Time will tell.

Try to speak my language...

Nothing wrong with speaking "Cookie Monster", nom, nom, nom! (TM)

Hopefully Oculus will be able to correct the issue. The more pressure we apply as a community, the more priority they'll place upon finding a fix. But I'm afraid the silent majority will do just that... stay silent.

I tried everything under the sun , including using my NVIDIA control panel. I found the NVIDIA control panel has absolutely no affect on my DK2, even with the tricks suggested in the forum about temporarily connecting a monitor in the port I normally use for my DK2.

Agreed RedRaven.
We need Rift users to start complaining in large numbers in one place. The link below may be a good place to get some attention as it is the only place I have been able to get some positive acknowledgement and given it is on the Oculus forum maybe Oculus will pay a little more attention BUT every Rift user needs to speak out and address ONLY THIS ISSUE. There are too many threads started that stray from the point as people get off topic and the issue gets lost in the "din"

This is Frontier Support on the Oculus forum:

Go here EVERYONE and tell them you are having this Color Banding and Color Reduction problem. DON'T muddy the issue with non-related issues or opine on what you think is causing this problem. Just confirm you are seeing it

My ticket on this with Oculus support has been unable to even garner an admission there is a problem or even a" we will look at this", but only a "prove it" kind of attitude and they seem to have gone silent.

CMDR Vanguard is Frontier support and is the only one who has seen fit to acknowledge there seems to be an issue. Let's all give him the numbers to convince Oculus to start taking this seriously, en masse.

Yep - we're on the same page - I saw Vanguard's response to your post.

Problem is, the Oculus forums are a bit of a lowest common denominator area, with all and sundry posting Waah Me! stories, and the boards are very... 'noisy'. But - it is the correct place to be posting.
Will add my voice there too asap.

Edit: added comment to the link above on the oculus forums.

Quick update: no color banding in Vive! I just got vive after trying to sort out color banding issues with rift cv1 and can confirm the space looks spectacular in vive. This is clearly the rift issue.

Cool, thanks for that @midimaxi - repped!

Any chance of a Vive screenshot of a sun etc? Would be great to know which star it is so we can replicate a Vive vs Rift screenshot for a support ticket :)

If you have nothing helpful to say, just don't post. For many people here the color banding issue is a huge deal breaker and near impossible to ignore so you telling people to "enjoy the immersion" and not to worry about color banding is, quite frankly, the stupidest thing I've read in this thread.
