Does Voice Attack work randomly with everyone else?

There's a setting in VA called Confidence Level, or something similar. Slide it higher so it needs to be more confident that it recognized a valid word or phrase.

Thanks for the tip. I just adjusted it and trying it out.

Sorry, I needed to be more specific. There is nothing wrong with recognition. The problem I'm having is that the key press isn't being sent or recognized by Elite: Dangerous. Using the keyboard or HOTAS binds work 100% of the time, though.

Have you told VA to "Import your control settings" since 3.0 updated?

Its automated on launch with the updated Singularity when you launch the game, but before you would just speak the command to update your bindings

Even with 3.0 I had to use the voice command because the automated process only pulled in maybe a third of my settings.

OP.
I find if I don't wear headphones and have the game sound going through my speakers, it can cause recognition problems. Also playing with the TV on is a no no. As others have said, doing the windows speech training a few times also helps.

As I said, I'm not having a problem with recognition, but a problem with the key presses being recognized by the game. I have to say (being recognized) the command several times before the game recognizes the key press.

Are you running anything else that might be stealing focus while you're playing? There's an admin at the VA forums that talks about that: https://voiceattack.com/SMF/index.php?topic=1323.0 . Check out different settings for the "send this command..." and mess with them to see what works best, regardless of if it makes sense.

edit* here's another one that may help, although it looks like you've tried some of it...did you try turning the response 'down', i.e. <.1? https://voiceattack.com/SMF/index.php?topic=53.0 end edit.*

For those having recognition issues, even with training, sound settings can mess up VA. I always have to make sure there aren't any added effects turned on, like 'smart volume' or 'noise reduction', etc, because when those things are enabled, VA has serious trouble recognizing anything, and when they are disabled, VA recognizes things perfectly.

Last, I use VA while the game is blaring out my 5.1 system, and don't have issues. I have all my ED commands preceded by "python" so VA won't get confused. For example, I say "python run" and it sets my pips for 4/2/0. That way, random phrases wont trigger VA.

Good luck, voice recognition can be a pita.

Do you have VA sending the keystrokes to the current window, or specifically the ED process? I've found that sending to the current screen works best for me, especially since I tend to run most games in full screen mode, so they are always the current window.

I have no trouble controlling landing gear with VA. Most commands work OK, including opening the Galaxy map, but oddly, opening the System map is problematic. If I carefully enunciate the final p, it's fine, but if I say it normally, it often fails. That is, I need to say "open system maP" for it to work reliably. I'm slowly getting trained to do that. :D

I stopped using VoiceAttack because of this. It once worked pretty well but got worse over time. It never understood some words (like "time" or "orbitals") at all. Funny is, that sometimes tells me the time tho I didn't say anything.

I cannot do recognition training in English on a German Win 10 installation, although I activated speech recognition in English. For some reason only MS knows why this is impossible. I cannot change away from a German installation and don't wanna fly my spaceship like a German submarine... Although, now I'm sort of "silent running" as well with VA turned off.

Just to add to the posts about voice training.

If you find specific words or phrases are causing you a problem, use voice recognition in word pad, and keep dictating the word/phrase causing problems and correcting the error when it makes a mistake. Voice attack uses MS voice recognition, so any work you do with it will increase accuracy over time.

A bad microphone or noisy working environment can lead to poor recognition profiles over time. Once you have replaced the microphone or reduced background noise delete the old voice profile and create a new one.

The following page from the voice attack forums lists instructions on adding new language packs for use with MS voice/Voice attack. It adds German to an English installation, but will work the other way round too https://voiceattack.com/SMF/index.php?topic=45.0

You can do recognition training in any app/program that supports Voice recognition such as word pad or MS office. Once you install the appropriate language pack and select it as default, simply dictate in one of these programs and correct mistakes as they occur. MS voice continually improves your voice recognition profile, using it in a program where you can correct dictation mistakes is a good way to quickly develop an accurate speech profile. Or, as I suggested above, use this technique for helping with words or phrases that cause recognition problems in voice attack.
