It happened to me and I survived (although I took about 5% damage to hull and 10% damage to some modules). I immediately remedied the situation.
That damned Silent Running, it's horrible. I turned it on by mistake and forgot my binding to turn it off. Couldn't quit the game as I was "in danger", and I panicked at the thought of having to locate it in the vast bindings menu...I got lucky and took a few guesses and got it.
Two things in combination made it happen:
1. I am not a smuggler and I rarely need to smuggle, so I often have to think hard to remember which key it was.
2. My thrustmaster had broken a few days previously and I had reverted to my Xbox controller, which I had long since forgotten the binding of Silent Running.
3. I was stupid enough to not realise that I can just use the modules panel to turn it off.
Even if you know off by heart which shortcut you've assigned it to do this:
Completely unbind the Silent Running hotkey when out exploring
You could activate it without realising and alt-tab and come back to ashes.
