"Don't rush into an Anaconda, do Engineering first...."

True for data and manufactored, not so much for raw mats. For some reason they are excluded from mission rewards, so you'll never, ever get them that way. Its pretty much SRV only, or maybe some via mining. They should be added to mission rewards like the rest.
Almost all my raw's are obtained from mining, but on the other hand I do a lot of mining:)

So there are still several options, SRV driving following the scanner, SRV driving to visit places like Crystalline Shards sites, Mining, so pick the best suitable of the available options.

So if you find driving SRV to be the worst thing todo, you still have an option for another activity. which is all said.

Forumdad: That sounds like my toddler who refuses to eat food just because he doesn't like the look of it. You're describing problems that only exist in theory and aren't a problem once you give it a go.
Which part of my comment sounds like problems that only exist in theory? The rest of your reply just agreed with my comment. So this really confuse me. Or is that just a mocking imitation of others?

As for things that I hate from gathering mats, well SRV and its terrible motion-sickness inducing camera.

As for things that I hate from gathering mats, well gently caress SRV and its terrible motion-sickness inducing camera.

When you just go out and do it its actually not that bad. I don't know where you have come from before here, but the majority of people here are objective to the reality of the game. If you can argue a case with sound points you're never wrong. The moderators here too are amazing tolerant of diverse views as long as you're not rude about it.

Have you tried going out to the crystal shards? Each spawn is in a very small area, so id find it hard to image you'd get motion sickness. I think that was what i was getting at, you're running with what you think will happen rather than giving it a go. Its not that bad. After filling up with just one trip out there you've got enough raw mats for a number of ships to grade 5.. will be a long time before you need to go out there again. Go out there twice and your raw materials will be completely full.

The grind is horrible. The complete lack of any in-game direction for this Engineering stuff is unbelievable. I'm juggling 10 different third-party tools and YouTube videos just to get by, and I still don't fully understand the process.

...

This is all to get Felicity Farseer to level 5. To say nothing of all the other Engineers I'm expected to do space chores for to unlock their goodies.

Wow. just.... wow. And this post got 15 pages of reaction?

Except I did do it? In fact, I finished engineering all the few ships I'm going to use, and still have mats to engineered a couple more. And it's not that bad, but it could be miles better.
Even your previous comment literally agree with me.

If you don't like using 3rd party tools, engineering isn't supported in the game.
Whoever told you that you can only play the game in ways that you like and advance engineering also lied. Aside from any interesting discussions here, for the game itself they have mislead you and misrepresented the reality of how it works. There is no way i know of to advance engineering only doing one pillar activity. Impossible.
But if you actually want to get things engineered the exploit ways are great.

I think you mistook me for someone else, because I never said engineering is so horrible it's unplayable.
I'm just saying it's not great, quite sub-par even, and it could be done much better, with a lot of improvements.
And I'm not saying that because I THINK it's bad, I'm saying that because I experienced it completely.

And yes I did go to the crystal shards. Even picked the flattest one available. I'm just not used to the abruptness of the SRV motion, which is amazing because I'm a fan of racing games.

Welcome to the party OP, time to fill up that glass ! I believe that the thread title is a bit out and should be 'you should rush to engineer the Anaconda first' as it's probably the best ship to assist with fully engineering all the other ships !

Spoiler : (The fully engineered Anaconda still handles like a boat !)

Seriously though the end result of engineering ships is great, the only question that remains is are you prepared to continue or step back ?

I'm still waiting to find out what kind of activity the OP prefers to do. Depending on what it is, he may not even need an Anaconda. One of the other ships out there might be better suited for his needs. The Anaconda is a jack of all trades and can be ok at a lot of activities but it's not really the best at any one thing. Once we find out what activities are fun for him, some of the more experienced players can help him with ship/engineering selections.

I also think that without engineering an Anaconda is going to be very annoying.

I quite agree. I have had an Anaconda for a few years now. I find it quite annoying in some respects, even with engineering. Without engineering, it's just a big loot pinata. When I went to the Type 10, I left the old "Anny" in the hanger to rust in peace.

I have to say that wasn't my experience with A-Rated thrusters and such. If you treat her like a lady, she'll always get you home.

The Anaconda may not be the best ship at any single thing... But it's certainly the best ship for doing everything. Which is what I need right now for Engineering. What better ship to hop around the galaxy with doing random tasks?

Plus I've wanted this ship the moment I laid my eyes on it. And she did not disappoint.

The Conda is remarkably underwhelming when it comes to landing at outposts though.

I didn't.

It was the one I least wanted of the "Big 3", and the last I purchased. Mainly because it felt like it was 'expected' at that point. For various reasons (primarily timing), it was the ship I ended up with on DW2. It wasn't my first, second, or even third choice - but it was the one closest to ready for the task I had available at the time.

After nearly 6 months of living in it exclusively, I came to love it. And now I wouldn't trade it for anything else in the game.

Since the expedition I've continued to refine and engineer it, and for the moment it's about as close to done as I can call it without making another trip out to Colonia.

The only "bubble" engineer you need third party tool help with is Farseer. Her being the first one to contact you that admittedly not good game design...
Now, I liked unlocking the engineers. But then again I activly didn't rush to get bigger ships, even though I had the credits for anything I wanted, or focused grinding the engineers. I just played the game with the engineers as good goal posts along the way. It's almost like I understod what would happen if I rushes the way you did...

I didn't "rush" into anything. What is with this narrative? I have played games like this before, I prefer larger ships. I tried several small/medium ships in ED but it just wasn't for me. So I earned the credits for the Anaconda with plenty of cushion for fitting/rebuy.

But good for you and how you play. Thanks for sharing I guess.

The "rush" word comes from the thread title which I assume you wrote. Your first post implies that you thought "rush to Anaconda" would have been preferable to unlocking engineering (which you'd started). The narrative therefore seems to be yours. I think some of us in this thread feared that you were making a mistake, but if you don't agree that's fine - "blaze your own trail".
