Ships Double banking SCB’s?

Got a couple of questions regarding double banking of SCB’s. Do you need 2 active banks to do it or can you fire one drop a heat sink then fire the same one again? For anyone who has a macro set up for this what delay did you use between firing the bank and the heat sink and between the heat sink and second bank? Thanks.

Not using macros. You don't need two, you can fire one repeatedly, but it's not recommended because of all the generated heat that will damage your modules.

That is what the heat sink is for. People talk about double banking as in bank, heat sink, bank. The heat sink in the middle keeping the ship cool enough to avoid damage. I know you can fire the same SCB repeatedly, what I don’t know is if you can trigger a second bank quickly enough before the heat sink cooling effect is lost. The macro question is about the timings between again so the heat sink hasn’t lost the cooling effect by the time the second bank fires.

The trouble with a single module is that you have to wait for the shield restoration effect to complete before you can command the next cell charge, during which an active heat sink is not doing any useful work. You may be able to squeeze in two Shield Cell Bank uses if it is a very small class module, for they have quicker timing, although I have not checked that and I doubt it is worth a heat sink either way.

Two Shield Cell Bank modules around class 5–6 will span one heat sink duration nicely if staggered, and if you have a good heat margin between idle and critical then you can stagger three SCBs without overheating. There will be a couple of short burst intervals where the heat sink is fighting two SCBs, but usually not for long enough to reach critical heat.

My Corvette has two 7A shield cell banks. I have them both in a firegroup on the same fire button with a heatsink launcher so I can fire both shield cells banks and the heatsink at the same time. The ship sometimes overheats briefly until the heatsink kicks in, but it causes no real problems. A second firegroup us set up with a second heat sink launcher because even with extra ammo mid there are more shield cell bank charges than heatsinks in one launcher.
This set up adds 1448MJ shield strength each time.

SCB have a certain recharge time before they can be used again. I have a corvette with 3 SCB, they can all be fired at once, so long as the heat-sinks are flying too.

I usually fire the first SCB, wait a second or two, fire the heatsink, and then the second. If you time it right, one heatsink tanks all the heat. If you fire the heatsink immediately after the first SCB, some heat capacity is wasted on the spool up time of the first SCB and you might get a short period of overheating.
