Double Insanity

There's two major helpers when it comes to ensuring instancing :

a) Disable UPnP (Universal Plug & Pray) and enable Manual Port forwarding. Does wonders in ELITE.

b) momentarily quit the Game and restart the Launcher and Client
ELITE P2P has a tendency to "clog up the pipe" over time when it comes to Networking. You'll very often find that non-instanced and non-instanceable Ships suddenly appear as expected after logging in from a clean Game restart.

There's still limitations, especially when one or more of other Players are residing i.e. on the other side of the Planet.
But overall, both workarounds above should drastically improve instancing chances.
Talked with my ISP and UPnP has never been enabled on my router.
I have never enabled it in my game settings.

My ISP did give me the keys to get into the firewall to set up PORT FORWARDING, but they do not provide support for how to do it.

The Frontier Article only addresses the PORT NUMBERS
Forwarding ports in your router:
As this is a different process for every router please visit PortForward.com and search for your specific model of router. This should guide you through the port forwarding process and ask you which port to forward. You will need to forward a UDP port. We usually suggest port 5100 but you can use 5101, 5102, 5111, or 5200, using the in-game options.
and my Router is not in the list.

Main question is what IP ADDRESS to use.

What the hell is a F___ C(ommoners)?
Speak English, and post technical problems to FDev technical support, not here. These are community forums and nobody here can fix the bugs in the game for you.
I did not AND still do not see this as a TECHNICAL problem that I SHOULD need to jump through hoops to solve.

Frontier created the problem with the kowtowing to the rich players that wanted an "END GAME" ship that exists across all platforms and game modes, at the expense of the poor players (the "commoners" that are getting F___ because the game is broken) that just want to play the game with a friend in a private group so they avoid the rich gankers.
Frontier should solve the problem. Not me. Not my ISP.

So far Frontier has provided NOTHING and they don't even seem willing to admit that the issues shown in the videos even exist..

I should not be able to have two ships that can see each other in normal space be incapable of forming a wing.
Those ships should not show in their Main Menus as being in a PRIVATE GROUP while their SOCIAL panels show them both in SOLO but in the same system.

I should not be able to have two ships be able to be in a PRIVATE GROUP and in WING in the same system in normal space and not be able to see and interact with the other ship.

What the videos demonstrate is that whatever Frontier did to make the "END GAME" ship exist across all platforms and game modes, is bleeding over into all the rest of the game and destroying play-ability.

The IP address to communicate with your router?
Open a Command window (Win+r) then cmd in the dialogue box
When the box opens type: ipconfig then press enter
From the list shown your router IP is the one given in Default Gateway (commonly 192.168.xxx.xxx)

You can now type that address into your browser and log in to your router using the credentials given by your ISP
There may be both basic and advanced menu options given - if so pick advanced, then look for Port Forwarding (also UPnP may also be shown)
Add ports as advised...

I have UPnP disabled on my router (Naturally - I purchased my own as the ISP ones have, historically, been under-performing), also do not use port forwarding either.
But am able to run 2 copies of ED (on PC & Laptop) and they interact predictably - even from the same FC if needed.

I can't speak for your own situation, but can be absolutely positive in my assertion that on the several occasions I have had reason for both accounts to interact it has been succesful - this doesn't help you to solve your own issue, only serves to prove how unpredictable networking issues can be.

You shouldn't need to (and most likely can't) setup a fixed IP Address. Attempting so is very likely to literally break your Internet Connection.
The Router UI should have built-in Instructions when it comes to setting up Port Forwarding and permitting all Inbound/Outbound traffic on the specified UDP Port (i.e. 5100 in the default Instructions) - but if you're unfamiliar with Networking, it's indeed best left alone if your ISP failed to provide Instructions.

What mainly matters is that on your Client UPnP is disabled as by the Instruction and the linked AppConfigLocal.xml File on the Frontier Support Website and the Gane Client is using it.
Code:
<AppConfig>
  <Network
    Port="5100"
    upnpenabled="0"
    LogFile="netLog"
    DatestampLog="1"
    ReportSentLetters="1"
    ReportReceivedLetters="1"
    VerboseLogging="1">
  </Network>
</AppConfig>

Okay, you haven't really answered the question though:

What is "the F___ C(ommoners) Dump"?!

I also think you're confused about the credit economy in this game. Being a ganker has nothing to do with your in-game bank balance, if anything the gankers are the poor ones because whilst they're out seal clubbing, they're not earning fat billions from mining or passenger missions.

Ok. I have made a contribution to the only "ISSUE" that is still active (this why I say Frontier isn't even admitting the problem exists since they have let at least two other reports expire) the that seems to relate to my problems since there doesn't actually seem to be a "support forum" anymore.

I enabled UPnP, restarted everything, launched both games, waited till they finally connected (2 minutes for one, 5 minutes for the other), looked in OPTIONS, NETWORK and both show UPnP still disabled,
ROUTER TYPE shows PORT_RESTRICTED but I have seen it as SYMMETRICAL on one and PORT_RESTRICTED on the other simply by logging out and back in.

Again, I never had ANY problems until the FC Update. Never..

I have always known how to get to the router GUI.

NO, I think this proves it is a Frontier issue directly connected to the FC update and since you have one, you don't get the problem.

@Rat Catcher I read your post further up (quite helpful I might add) and knew straightaway it would be in vain.

OP did not disappoint. Best to let them wear themselves out in their angry fit until they calm down (or not).

I don't have any problems with UPnP, but since your network seem to be giving you a headache and since you have two computers, I think the best option is to configure port forwarding for both computers.

Get the local IP Address for each computer by opening a command prompt and typing ipconfig.
The line you're looking for is: IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : x.x.x.y
Computer 2 will have a different IP address x.x.x.z

Go into your router port forward config.

Create two rules:
Port 5101 for Computer 1 and IP address x.x.x.y
Port 5102 for Computer 2 and IP address x.x.x.z

Now, go into your ED network settings on each computer.
Computer 1
Port Forwarding ON
Mapped Port Number 5101

Computer 2
Port Forwarding ON
Mapped Port Number 5102

NOTE: if by any reason one of your computer changes IP address, this will break. It usually doesn't, but who knows. You can configure a DHCP reservation for each computer (that's what I have here) or configure a static IP address outside the DHCP range on each computer. But this is a later worry.

The forum does seem to have some 'frustrated' topics appearing from early adopters appearing recently. I wonder to myself if, instead of venting their frustration here, those posters took a hiatus from the game if they would come back refreshed.

Thank you for your kind words 👍
