Dust settling?

I've never played a MMO (more than a few tries that ended in minutes) so I really have no clue how long it takes for the dust to settle, so to speak, and the "core" gamers to have back the game. If you know what I'm trying to say.

I'm not trying to offend but, does anyone know about how long it takes for the dust to clear and momentum to shift back to people that like the game and will be playing it for a long time? I suppose it could be months, a year or maybe longer?

If you don't like the game that's ok, to each their own but, being a "fanboi" of the game I look forward to the days of peace and harmony like it used to be but, I have no idea how long, if ever, it usually takes for things to settle.

I sure do miss the community being like it was a few months ago, peaceful, helpful and a real sense of community even when disagreeing.

Yeah it would be nice to be back to that kind of forum but while I've never been into MMO I just can't think of a game forum that hasn't had an element at least of the kind of naffness we're seeing now. Hopefully it'll settle down because right now it's beyond the pale.

Once those who are self proclaimed "if the game is not changed, I'm out of here" do actually leave (unless they were simply being melodramatic), I expect that we'll begin to settle back into a forum experience that more resembles what went before.

It will never fully settle as there will always be new players and troll posters to stir it all up. The WoW forums are still an utter cesspit even after all these years since the game was released, for example. Unless it's decided to implement EJ style moderation (can't see that happening) then it will always exist to a certain extent. As to how much, guess we have to wait and see.

this is why i upped my KS pledge from beta access at £50 to private backers forum access at £75, somehow i knew this would happen and wanted a tranquil backwater populated with fellow KS old hands to chill out in between long sessions of eating popcorn while i watched the public forums go up in flames and be swamped by a stampede of trollish behavior.

Doubt the forums will ever go back to how they were in beta (when I started) but would imagine they'll calm down a bit eventually. They do seem to have taken on a trollish tone which reminds me a great deal of how the EVE forums went in later years but it's hard to avoid that I guess, especially when Elite has a significant crossover in players from that game.

It would be great if we could get back to a point where the pros and cons of the game's mechanics can be discussed in a rational manner without it becoming a moronic analogy fuelled shouting match between 'fanboys' and 'haters' (not referring to you in any way there Sanderson!)

Longer than the Holiday season, I think it makes time stand still in respect to what you're talking about.
As to how long, each game, MMO or otherwise, seems to have its own rhythm of thing, but the forums are ever for the newer people.
And I mean that in that forums threads are always more populous from the newer people who have things to ask and share and debate and discover, the players who have been around a while engage in discussions on old topics less and less.
Rookies become veterans, veterans become old guard and new rookies come to fill the ranks.

And then when you think there is balance again, the next expansion will be announced and the cycle begins again

The existence of the PBF is a comfort when the rest of the forums are ablaze.

It would be nice if Frontier were to create a Beta backers forum as well to allow those players to have a similar place for quiet reflection.

Can't say I've any experience of mmo forums - but I wouldn't hold your breath unless all those predict doom and gloom for the game are correct.
Because in my experience - the larger the membership, the worse the forum is!

So expect it to get worse the more copies are sold - even if 90% of all players never post because they are happy with the game.
The larger number that 10% represents- the more people trolling and demanding...

And it only gets worse as those who genuinely care get sick of the tone and start to leave the forum.
Luckily we've got the backer forums to retreat to!

Not sure that would be worth much if you look at the cesspit the beta/gamma forum turned into :) Didn't realise you KS backers had a private forum... no wonder you all have such good rep! ;)

Although they are right in saying it never really stios, I think once FD release the first big expansion and players see that they are in this for the long run then a lot of attitudes will mellow somewhat. Of course there will still be those who are vocal in wanting to destroy the game anyway, but we've all dealt with people with agendas before.

I'd actually say there never was any dust to begin with.
.
The most active time of streamers is beyond us for example. Also there wasn't a crazy rush in sales as far as I can tell since the prices are still too high (I backed during beta already but I know people who will not buy into ED because it's too much for what it currently offers).
.
That said I believe if the community will shift to a playerbase that defends the game "as is" then ED will die. I can't see it selling any better than it was. It even got promoted by Star Citizen and many of the SC streamers but that will not be enough to bring more players into the game so all the cut out and promised features will be realized.
.
So I do hope that the community strives for an improved version of ED that at least has the content we've been seeing in trailers.

By the way: ED is one of the worst examples I can think of when it comes to an MMO. It's multiplayer, yes, but certainly not massive in the way we're referring to when talking about MMO's these days.

My experience is that good games have polarized fan bases it goes with players getting involved but they all have there own 'important' views on what the game should be. WoW being and example over the years.

Heh, the rep system has changed somewhat. You used to be able to get 30 or 40 points from positive rep from someone with a high rep and post count.

I guess when FD are completely honest about the game not being finished, they should actually unrelease it if only it were possible, it is very broken in a multitude of ways, some promised, some implied. I enjoyed my Beta testing and thought I was helping, sadly the game feels exactly the same as Beta if not worse in some ways with the constant tweaking.
Netcode is broken is not a good start for a permanently online game, also every time it gets fixed or patched people have to be disconnected for hours and lose their missions and get fined etc, it's a big joke and the joke is on us. The punchline was always online.

So for the dust to settle... I would say about 12 months until the game is anything like a polished finished interesting product that is stable.

until then I think the forums are going to be full of peeved individuals.

I also think the FD white Knights who constantly defend the game don't make the forum attitude any better, it's a kind of trolling tbh.

The game has some great assets, but then again so did X Rebirth.

So ultimately the dust has been created by FD's own decisions, coding and a somewhat disingenuous approach as to what the game was actually going to be.

that's cause we all run around rep'ing each other when nobody is looking, it's a secret club kind of like the masons but the handshake is done client to server :p

The Beta / Gamma forums did not restrict access to players confirmed as having bought the game - they were a free-for all - that's largely (in my opinion) why they became as they did.
