Dust settling?

And? Still waiting for a reason you need to know how the game is doing financially (aside for eventual trolling)

Please, enlighten us

I should tell you what the purpose of statistics are? Is this a serious question?

To what end?

An analysis of the statistics could well jump to the wrong assumptions - depending on who is doing the analysis.

Correlating statistical developments with significant events (e.g., introduction of a new DCL such as planetside) is never error-prone, but right now everyone is purely conjecturing about active player numbers and the level of satisfaction.

The forums will never return to what they were. The hostility started the moment the release date was announced.
Some people were happy testing the game and learning about it, secure in the knowledge that things they were not liking about the game were only placeholder mechanics or bugs that would soon get fixed.
The moment the release date was announced it became apparent FD were willing to release "as is". This was not acceptable to many.

On the other hand there were many who were happy because they really didn't treat the game as beta, they treated it like release. They wanted the wipes to end so they could keep their credits and ships at all costs.

There was the group who claimed we were going to be amazed when Gamma was released because we were only seeing a vertical slice of the whole game. Then they said the same thing about 1.0. So many of those people were upset to find out they were wrong.

In my opinion there are very few on here who say the game sucks or it's doomed! There are many who are having fun with it and sinking many hours into it, but they were doing that during beta.

Maybe we need two separate forums. 1. What I love about ED and 2. What needs to be fixed.
If people would stick to posting items relating to those topics and not jump on each one flaming the people posting on either side we would have a more positive forum with mature discussion.

Well there is a suggestion forum, "Dangerous Suggestions", that sounds like the right place for ..suggestions

"Subs" and sales numbers are only used in a negative way

TESO managed to do all right despite all the ravens croaking, because they don't release numbers

Soulstain you make a reasonable point but, some of the posts are not about improving the game its just vitriolic rants. In Beta we made posts that were ,questions, sugestions , things that we thought didnt work, things that literally didnt works at all and we discussed them sensibly without anger or mud slinging. I was one of those who thought they needed a few more months development before release but that didnt happen and Im ok with that because I know it will be all sorted out .

As I remember most of us mentioned there would be fireworks on the forums when release came along because of certain features not being included , indeed that is what happened to a much smaller extent than I thought . The release was much better than I thought actually but still lacking certain stuff that I thought was essential to the game , mainly multiplayer functionality. All the other fluff I knew FD would put in soon enough. Multiplayer tools like wings ect and shared missions were a serious leave out on release IMHO. Im happy enough to wait as like all the alpha beta players we know how to work arround that with some effort .

Your right being a PB player I am used to playing arround with ED and waiting for stuff to happen and Im happy to play while I look forward to those features I know are coming. Im enjoying it , indeed I love it and still even consider it testing like you say . That is part of the fun for me.

It would be nice if we got back to reasoned debate and lost these agressive look at me quit posts that are really just gunpowder fuel to the forums. That wont happen though I fear.

The existence of the PBF is a comfort when the rest of the forums are ablaze.

It would be nice if Frontier were to create a Beta backers forum as well to allow those players to have a similar place for quiet reflection.

Ohh I see, just leave all us regular folks to deal with the mountain of biowaste posts and listening to the rants of the small minded children really good way to promote community, thanks guys ;p

We will know full picture in April/May, when by law FD will be obliged to report their full financial state to public. If they haven't lied to us - and I find hard time to believe they would do that - then they have lot of money in deferred sales (preorder), possibly 7M or more. That's money they rolled into their active accounts with the release of the game. We know original budget was 8M, but it is substantially more now. How much - no one knows, but even if it's 20M (I doubt it judging by their spending in 2013, but we will see), then I don't see much problems for FD to recoup costs.

So yes, ED financially is secure, and so is FD. For how long - no one knows, but short and mid term future of the game is quite secure in my opinion (and we will see soon enough if that's true).

Apologies if that was a bit lacking in empathy for those who did not gain that tier reward - it was a lower tier reward that I received as a side benefit (that I did not fully appreciate the benefit of at the time, I'll admit).

I've never played a MMO (more than a few tries that ended in minutes) so I really have no clue how long it takes for the dust to settle, so to speak, and the "core" gamers to have back the game. If you know what I'm trying to say.

I'm not trying to offend but, does anyone know about how long it takes for the dust to clear and momentum to shift back to people that like the game and will be playing it for a long time? I suppose it could be months, a year or maybe longer?

If you don't like the game that's ok, to each their own but, being a "fanboi" of the game I look forward to the days of peace and harmony like it used to be but, I have no idea how long, if ever, it usually takes for things to settle.

I sure do miss the community being like it was a few months ago, peaceful, helpful and a real sense of community even when disagreeing.

Many people in this thread cause or contribute to the very thing the thread is decrying.

I find that interesting.

I don't know how you arrived at this conclusion. In general, statistics can be used to support an argument by aggregation of factual results.

Companies aren't required to publish their numbers. It's their choice to do so. For the game with single sale point it's even less important. Still, FD will publish updated numbers sooner or later (on 16th it was 10M GBP with 200k players), as their minority shares are publicly traded and it's considered good investor relationships to keep them informed about good news in company.

Good to know, thx for the info!

I would expect that the number of players in this case equates to the number of game sales - not to the number of active players.
