Distant Worlds II Event [DW2] Distant Worlds 2: Discovery Submissions

So far the only biological discoveries I've found have all be bark mounds. Every last one in every damn system that has biologicals (except for The View that the expedition passed, but that hardly counts since it's a tourist destination, I mean new discoveries on my part, even before DW2).

As far as space bound oddites go, I've only come across metallic crystal clusters or whatever they're called.

I like the idea of recording my findings as I go along, but unfortunately being in VR makes this difficult (hell, even without VR, the alphabet soup nature of most system names makes it annoying, but with VR? Much worse.)

I just wish I could find a convenient way to record these while flying and upload them after I'm done for the day

edit: second cloud is Flavius Crystals

I've been out exploring since the patch and Bark Mounds are truly an annoyance with how common they are. That is except when you can't find them in the sector that hasn't discovered them yet, then you can't find them anywhere. Oh well at least the good news is you can get the G4 mats from them now so that's at least worth something, but I feel your pain...

A commander reported on discord about stellar phenomena at a system "up" and corward from Thor's Eye. I don't recall the name. It is written down at home. There were three instances. All three were dark clouds if any cloud at all. All three were the squishy molluscs and spikey rocks. I scanned them with everything I had, which is everything but a sample collector. No notable reactions to anything except they like to bounce off of your hull.

I know, not a lot of info and rather tame. If I remember, when I get home I'll look for the system name.

If it is showing on the codex, it is something like Treikia IG something.

EDIT: Traikaae IG-K B23-O

Found a potentially intriguing system for all you DW2 bio-geeks, ~800ly rimward from the Lagoon Nebula: Droju JU-R c20-4.

It's a double binary with two water worlds (plus a couple other terraformables), as well as two Proto-Lagrange Clouds. Inside the clouds, I found three different varieties of metallic crystalline structures, plus a few living mollusk specimens. Probably worth a stop, if you're passing by.

It's definitely my favorite find of the expedition so far.

My discovery is awesome because I discovered it .:D. as the other 10,000 players missed it [where is it] on the first leg of DW2

I’m considering myself lucky today. I found a system with an ELW and a WW......I truly suck at this:D

So far it’s been geysers and the odd water world but nothing of note to anyone, should’ve bought my Beluga as I may as well be playing shuffleboard or relaxing in the spa.

Dr Kaii.

Just wanted to say I love this addition, but I feel like the submission process is a bit too extensive. I wish there was a way to streamline it, especially if entering multiple submissions.

Perhaps certain replies could carry over when submitting again to prevent always typing it out (ie CMDR name, platform, region (since that will probably get repeated many times before moving to a new region)

For clarification, the part that asks:

POI Number *
The number in brackets/parenthesis

does this mean just the number which you chose to visit (ie #2 but there are 6 on the planet), or the total number listed on this planet (6)

While not specifically a special type of anything, I found a super elongated gas giant. Never seen one before so I don't know how rare a find it is, but some more realism, eh?

Two submissions from today that I found noteworthy.

BYEIA EURK MN-B D13-58 6 / 6a - F1 VI main sequence star

It's Rocky TFC moon with an atmosphere. Note the surface pressure.

BYEIA EURK FI-R B32-0 - NSP containing Rubeus and Purpureus metallic crystals, lagrange cloud and molluscs outside of a nebula.

Quite close to the main star. About 40ls or so.

Reserved

Found some cool geyseyrs tho

I say again.. that is not how this works.
No one will come back to see those posts when you find something to post as this thread keeps on collecting posts and pages. In few months there will be hundreds of posts and dozens of pages..
Just post your findings normally in running order, like discussion forums work.

This is not Reddit. :)

Sorry folks but we don't do the "Reserved" thing around here.

Depending on the original thread we occasionally let the OP reserve a post after requesting or as part of the FDEV/MOD team due to future content.

Thanks all. :)

We have found that when we find something interesting in the thread we aren't able to locate it in the spreadsheet. Therefore could we urge everyone to please make sure to give the exact name and/or system they wrote in the form, when also sharing the entry here in the thread. Don't just share screenshots!

Thanks T.J for deleting the reserved posts.

As an FYI to everyone: Sajime and Erimus are on the organisation team so they are reserving posts in order to help organise this thread. Nobody else is allowed to do it! :)

Maybe that one shouldn't be mandatory! I guess it's just so you can point to the one you investigated, just in case there is more than one type of POI on the planet. Made it optional.

As for streamlining it with pre-filled infos, I will look into it. It's a google form, not sure if they can do that.

Thanks! It's a shame about the alphabet soup nature of the galaxy, since it really slows down the process (and if you're in VR? Fuggetaboudit. I have to screen cap locations and upload them afterwards by checking the pics for location names)

If it turns out you can have info carry over when adding multiple entries, perhaps make it so the system name prefix carries over too (ie: SYNUFED, not the KR-5 d-10 part). I suspect many explorers will have a number of discoveries within the same general region and that would speed things up.

Heh, now I'm wishing there was an app that can tie into ED that allows you to upload a discovery while you're there and have the POI targetted. (Could even tie it to a screen capture, provide planetary coordinates, etc... ;) )

Another potentially interesting metallic crystal discovery today... Found a Notable Stellar Phenomena located inside the rocky ring of a Gas Giant w/ Water-Based Life. It's not all that visually interesting, but I'm really intrigued by the the potential causes of such an unusual biological situation.

P.S. I'm still using the Base Information form; is that still the best place for this kind of submission?

Icy Bodies get a bad wrap for being boring, but this one is pretty cool. It's secondary outer ring is incredibly large, millions of kms across, and starts millions of kms from the planet. They body itself is massive, at 66 Earth Masses, and 4.3G.

USE EDPROFILER'S CMDR LOGS TOOL! It will take a link to your screenshots and put them in the log of the system you are in. It actually works really well as a bookmarking tool, as well as a captain's log tool for those who hate alt-tabbing (like those in VR).

I'll make a video about that soon, I think more people need to know.
