Distant Worlds II Event DW2 PS Edition

Now just need to join the squadron

I've added a "Johnny-Shark" (with hyphen) if that's you :)

Note: the word has come down from mein fuehrer StormyUK that you must be on the DW2 roster, you will be kicked from the squadron.
Please ensure you have signed up: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeauTPWcU4JV-b7CqmpXinnIuRUx6C4OLLglBRTc1GPG8YqZw/viewform

Also I think the guys processing the doc above are being swamped, so it may be 24 hours+ before you get your squadron acceptance.

He has! I’ve got him. Thanks for pushing the procedure, it’s really important that everyone understands that there is a sign up process and anyone not on the roster will not have access to the expedition facilities and will not be considered part of the Expedition

Prepped the Krait Phantom yesterday for the expedition. Sacrificed 10% jump range for some extra speed, a second scarab and some guns. Signed up as explorer/fighter escort. Request sent for DW2 squadron too.

Thanks! Yes that will be me (with hyphen ;) )
When I joined this forum I forgot to add the hyphen, but hopefully I'll be able to edit it in the future.

I've followed steps at the start of this thread, so I presume everything has been done in the right order.

Dear PS4 CMDRs,

the departure of Distant Worlds 2, the largest exploratory expedition in the history of Elite: Dangerous is just a month away (13th of January). For those of you interested in taking part to this epic trip, it is time to start gearing up for the months you'll spend in the black. If you are unfamiliar with DW2, you can find all the info you want here: https://dw2expedition.wixsite.com/home/info-index.

There are three simple steps for you to sign up to DW2. In this order:

1) sign into the Roster here (make sure all your info is correct, especially your PSN ID): https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeauTPWcU4JV-b7CqmpXinnIuRUx6C4OLLglBRTc1GPG8YqZw/viewform

2) Send a friend request on PSN to CMDR Allcrowsareblack mentioning;
• Your roster No.;
• If you would like to be left off the message group (you will be added by default); and
• If you would like to be added to the PSN Community.

3) from in-game, look for the Distant Worlds 2 [DWO2] squadron, and apply.

4) Current PS4 sub-role forum links:

Fleet Logistics

Mining Operations

Fleet Mechanics

Fleet Defence Forces

You will be invited to join the Private Group (Allcrowsareblack) by default following receipt of the Friend Request. Please note that you do not have to join the PG. You are welcome to experience DW2 in Open, Solo, or in your own private groups if you wish.

Anyone wishing to be part of a DW2 PS Message group will need to ensure you have your privacy setting set to allow messages from people not on your friends list.

Please note that if you do not appear on the roster you will not be considered a participant in the expedition and will not be granted access to the available facilities

That's it! As of this moment there are nearly 350 PS4 CMDRs signed up for the expedition, and it would be nice to bring that number closer to 500. It is a great opportunity to try out the new exploration tools we've been given in the last update; and remember, upon your return you'll be a BILLIONAIRE thanks to all the exploration data you'll have collected!

See you on the 13th. o7

2 questions:

1.) Is there going to be a scientist's thread? I didn't see one listed, I see there are other scientists for PS4 on this Expedition so I'm just curious? . . .

2.) Do you have to join the DS2 Squadron to be included on chat parties and other events related to the Expedition? (I'm in a small squadron and don't want to leave it but don't want to miss out on the DS2 PS4 Activities.)

There are a series of voice chats reserved for PS4 CMDRs in the FleetComm DW2 discord. Text chat is cross platform. If you would like a means of communicating in-platform follow the instructions in the OP
I'm still looking for these channels Allcrowsareblack. Can you send a screenshot of where they are? Not all that familiar with Discord. Though I won't use it much, it would be nice to have the option handy if needed.

Thanks,
Gary

We were talking about this the other day as I was the same.
Once you are registered for the channel, you need to assign yourself a role in the dw2-roles tab.

Once you have picked a role, you then pick up the voice channels

CMDRs! Signal boost to the revised OP content:

The Fleet Roster closes on Friday Jan 18. After which time no applications will be processed. This includes PSN friend requests and Private Group Invites.

Requests to join the PSN community will continue to be processed.

There is a PS Community and two PS message groups available for you all on the platform but in order to access those, and other key channels, you will need to follow this process:

1. Sign up to the official roster here - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...Distant-Worlds-II-Fleet-Roster-Sign-Up-Thread.
2. Send me a friend request on PSN mentioning;
  • Your roster No.;
  • If you would like to be left off the message group (you will be added by default); and
  • If you would like to be invited to the PSN Community.

My PSN ID is Allcrowsareblack, as it is here and in Discord (#1653). Please feel free to contact me in whichever way works best for you if you have any questions.

It’s been amazing so far and it can only be better as we go forward! o7

I'll just ping back to the other thread, and landing on high-G planets, after seeing chat last night about The View.
It's only got 3.3G gravity, which isn't high in the scheme of things, so I highly recommend trying some landings until confident (on 2.5-ish at least). Especially around WP2, where a mistake will respawn you back with minimal loss.

In other news, the DW02 squadron is pushing towards 400 CMDRs now, get your applications in!

Lastly, I seem to have a problem with close orbiting binary stars, I can't help myself trying to squeeze thru :D

The View is stunning, I made it down ok in my fat Anaconda with really poor thrusters (5D), just take is slow and land like a aircraft, done use roll, don't pitch too high an angle, never thrust down and watch the decent speed indicator, when you are close to the ground you can FA OFF and on, to slowly float down. On The View planet you can come to a complete stop straight and level and ever my 5D thrusters kept me in the air, so slow and steady.

I am not sure how my Anaconda would fair on a 5g+ planet though.

I am falling behind though as I have only just let that planet and a way to go before WP2, are any of the other sights worth checking out or should I burn to the meet up?

Blast it, and try to get to WP2 for the FDev stream on Thursday. IMO (and I've done a bit of exploring, so seen a lot of black holes say) i'd rate the sights as:

Shapley 1 = meh. skippable, you'll see better later.
The View = very nice unusal coloured planet, nice rings etc. Worth visiting.
Cycladia = TBH I don't even know what was meant to be special. Skip.
Labirinto = canyons. You can see similar back in the bubble at Pomeche, so skip.
Thor's Eye = another nice ringed gas giant, black hole is meh. Skippable.
Lagoon Nebula = nice nebula, if you've never been in one then go, otherwise skip.
Cinnabar Moth Nebula = too far off the beaten track, I skipped this personally, but may of missed out on something.
The PW2010 Supercluster = I've seen similar before, and better once you get towards Sag A*. again skip depending on explo history.

Cheers dude, I will try to get on and hit the pedal tonight. I think I am actually at Cycladia, its a ringed Earth like. The View was nice and it was really busy on Monday, lots of squadron guys on too, was nice.

Great tl;dr from Stinja. I simply don't have as much ED time as I used to so I gunned it to WP2 once I heard the mining CG was there as I wanted to ship my modules out. Glad I did hearing that we will be representing on the live stream on Thursday. Let's light up that radar CMDRs o7.
