Distant Worlds II Event DW2 XBOX edition

Just signed up and joined the Xbox club. Currently planning on taking my Cobra Mk IV in a small support role but will likely change my mind several times before departure.

Quick question: I'm in the middle of my own distant exploration trip, and I'm in a stripped out DBX, how are people making this trip in Cobras and such? Isn't that going to take a LONG, LONG time? I've only been out in the black for two weeks, and I'm 3/4 of the way to Sag A, and I want to kill myself because of the repetition. Granted, I'm eager to get there and get back to make the money, so I'm not taking the time to investigate every nook and cranny, but I can't imagine doing this in a ship with a 10-13 ly range. Someone make me understand, please! :)

Engineering. Most of my ships have a jump range better than the 32.4LY ASP I took to Beagle Point. And that ASP is at 51LY now.

It takes a special kind of crazy to be an explorer. That's the most that I can say.

Having a 60ly jump-range anaconda also helps.

Oh. OK. I'm not there yet, I don't have the... whatsis... needed to unlock the fourth level of engineering at Farsight yet.

This will be a long, long trip. Some of the original DW commanders only recently made it back to the bubble after two years. One or two may still be out there!

The main fleet will take their time to cross the galaxy, allowing time for the lunatics in Corvettes and FDL's to keep up. I would plan on a minimum of 6 months unless you're taking a dedicated long-range exploration vessel.

Six months is fine.

My Cobra is ready... And I might be bringing Guardian technology.

I think my first trip out to Beagle Point took...2 or 3 months? And that was with sprinting back to Colonia to get in on an exploration CG. I'll probably stick with the fleet up til Beagle Point, but I might go my own way after that.I hope the station CGs get to be a thing.

I signed up like two weeks ago, but I did it through the PC thread link. Is this okay? My name is already on the list and listed as XBox player.

Hi,

Can someone explain me what is Distant World and how it works?

I read the official post about DW2, but I'm a beginner (I don't play a lot) and would like to understand much better what it is. If I understand, we have to join a fleet (or everyone is in the same fleet?) and from there we need to follow a route to explore, but what I don't understand is about roles, when is it and how communications work (since players can play solo or open)?

Thank you

PS: Taking notes for future DW3... For the moment I only have a Sidewinder, so will not be able to follow. But when I will have a better ship, I will start exploring the galaxy on my own.

You have plenty of time to get a ship for DW2. It wont be happening until either late 2018 or 2019. By then you can achieve a lot.

As for how it works.
We all start at the start line which will be in or around the bubble. We follow a route and schedule, meaning we go from waypoint to waypoint and have meetups at each waypoint at the scheduled time. You don't have to travel with other ships if you don't want to. Between waypoints you are free to explore alone or with a friend or person you met. Meetups will be where the fleet are together and are an opportunity to meet people and make friends.

Roles are not required, you can just be a regular explorer.

It's not as complicated as it looks. Yes there is a lot of text and information to take in but it's actually simple enough. The schedule and route will be posted closer to the time and the forums will be active when the time comes. I'm sure there'll be plenty of guidance available if help is needed.

yep, what he said. 100% Correct. Glad to have you aboard.

For those who are new to the ED galaxy and the Distant Worlds concept - we are travelling across the galaxy and back. It is that simple. Because there are a couple of thousand participants across all of the platforms, we will be hosting a variety of 'roles' to allow people to interact a little more. The roles are voluntary, but will add some realism to the journey and help keep focus.

As for ships - you have several months to gain a suitable ship, but really anything could be used.. even a Sidewinder. (I'd suggest something a bit bigger though)

There are lots of commanders who will be able to help - this thread, the main one in the Exploration forum, the Fleetcomm Discord, the XBOX Group..

It'll be a blast.

Up to 64ly on my 'conda, and I've still got a bit of weight to shed. I'll obviously take a hit once I mount the mining equipment, but still, this is absurd.

I've just resubmitted my application. In light of my new career as a xeno-hunter, I've decided to enlist as fighter escort.

My Cobra, the Kalashnikov, will be reconfigured as a long range fighting vessel focused on Thargoid combat. I will need to keep in contact with a fleet mechanic, as I only have room for one limpet controller, and that will have to be decontamination.

I'm going to resubmit once I engineer my Asp X. I'm going to get it to 49.05/52.56 fully loaded with weapons and wake scanner, point defense, etc. I want to go to Beagle Point full of gear. :)

Might even bring the corrosive resistant racks, just in case we find something "new" and interesting!
