Earn up to 24p Per Week with ARX

I still wonder why anybody would complain about free stuff... A free paintjob every few months is more than no free paintjob ever.
Yeah and if you CBA.... buy it....

although a better PR thing might have been to lower the prices accross the board espicially for single items, and give away paint packs etc as part of community goals, saving 6 months development time messing about with ARX and gave us legs / atmos already.

what am i saying.. i mean small seismic charges!

Very much agreed. It should be tripled IMO.
It really depends on how much an individual paintjob will cost. They said they wanted to get rid of paintpacks, if you get a paintjob for 2000 Arx it's fine in my opinion. If earning 400 Arx per week required you to be online 24/7 it's not so fine.

For a moment I was thinking I might collect these as arbitrary trophy points, but then I remembered that you can buy them, so never mind.

But then I have to buy them if I want more cosmetics too.

I might be getting too old for video games, or maybe it's just past my bedtime.

My i486 PC build is coming along nicely though. Might even get some of the earlier Elite games for it, now that I think of it. :)

I've spent a lot of money on Elite and its store, and i don't regret it for a second because it's such a great game, but come on Fdev, for those of us who for whatever reason can't spend real money ingame, i think it would be a nice gesture to give a free gift to those commanders who don't own anything. This Christmas to celebrate both the season, ARX and carriers, you could give them the choice of a paintjob, it won't break the bank and it will make a lot of people very happy.

Maybe they forgot a 0 digit to the 400 and it should be 4000? Or perhaps they mean 400 a day instead of 400 per week? I mean, using common sense the official numbers must be wrong.

But oh wait! Dang it! We are at Frontier! Common sense is unavailable here, it got lost in the instance system chaos!
4000 Arx per week? That's like they are refunding you the game if you play it for one month.

Don't encourage the SOLO trolls.

Or the really really brave boys in open... cos they're brave!

How much does the Arx on our accounts decay each week?
I doubt it would decay...
That said and as per usual, zero information was provided in the stream on how ARX is earned, this is a standard FDEV policy. Do not provide detail on sensitive subjects...

All we know is that when you play ED you can 'earn' up to 400 ARX per week - We have had to work out that equates to a cap £0.23 per week or 3.4p per day.

Yes it's 'free' fair enough, but to put that into perspective...

Bobbleheads start at £3.00 which equates to 5,016.7 ARX (Note this is more than the minimum purchase of 5,000 ARX)
If you max out gameplay you can earn 400 ARX per week
So to earn the Thargoid Bobble head with ARX it will take you 13 Weeks or just over 3 months.
The same bobblehead was earned in-game for 2 hours of your time - not 3 months.

The most expensive store item (Cosmetic) is a £11 paint pack, which will take 46 weeks to earn if you max out ARX every week.

I'll make a ARX calculator and share it so you can quickly work out how long you need to play to get an item.

I can’t say as I expected it to be anything more than it is for the free ARC, the in game earning rate gives a similar feeling as when a friend got 2 numbers on the euromillions and prize was slightly less than the price of the ticket, you should feel happy for winning but it’s a bit meh I can take it or leave it.

And I for one welcome the change from real cas to ARC. Once in a while after a pleasant evening in the pub I may have felt inclined to boot up ED and buy something pointless from the store.
I have never brought fake currency and I don’t intend to start now so it has saved me from drunken purchases

The Viper Squadron paintpack costs £3. That's £0.5 per paintjob. So two weeks of playing the game (you hopefully enjoy it).

I guess the 400/week cap is a simple way to avoid players exploiting this new mechanism. As a regular player who doesn't habitually buy cosmetics I see only positives in this, I can now get a few little bits & bobs for free where previously I simply went without, and anyone still feeling like they want to subsidise Frontier can just buy points regularly.
Wouldn't the point of the mechanism be to get people to play? Having no cap would encourage people to play more hypothetically.

If you give to players they tend to give back.

Not necessarily in the same way but it creates a little more community in game. Even if it's just a sliver. They need more game development though to support more game. That is the real thing lacking. The real takeback in the end will be the more work you put into development the more you get out of it from the players overall. But that seems to be more advanced to people today.

They could have no cap and have a certain rate. you can only play so much in a day to start. Or are they worried about bots and gold farmers?! Still might be worth it to just let the playerbase earn things. Then they have an internal incentive to add as much as possible to the game to make more money. There is a benefit to robustness.

I don't get why they are afraid of being honest and getting honest feedback. It only improves the situation. And it would get them past being afraid of it in the end. And they would get more and more efficient. Even if there are some lumps along the way. That is part of the learning process.

For some strange reason this sort of reminds me of crypto coin mining. Kind of makes me think it should be in fractions of 1 instead and then having lower costs for things. Yeah... It's still past my bedtime.

That is peoples personal problem. We are not China.
You may be some old-school pensioner - but nowadays we care about people's wellbeing. You should get with the program.

And choosing China as an example - where they are known for working long long hours for little pay. Somewhat of a poor example ;)
