Earning parity between pilot roles

Sounds like this isn't the game for you. Why don't you try something else?

Why should he. The game trailer pretty much suggests an action game (as well) and not a space truck - you need to play super booring trader - simulation. Why offer 3 careers if only one gets you access to the entire content (in reasonable time - and also from an "affordable" perspective). It's exactly as he said. It's not well balanced.

anyone else sick of the crowd of ppl complaining about wanting immediate gratification in games ?

Yes, but the great thing about forums is you can have a bit of a laugh, then hit the back button and forget the thread ever existed. People just don't want to work, I put the effort in to make millions, now I can enjoy the fruits of my labor, only took 8 weeks to amass 300 million, and that was 3 hours a day, doing other stuff ingame and generally taking it easy.. Seems like the mechanics are working fine...

Reduced damaged costs should help those that only want to watch things blow up

Not very helpful buddy.

The game should cater for both those that are hardcore players and those with limit gaming hours. I am more the latter myself at the moment, and do feel its a bit of a gap between those high tier ships and those low tier ships. I feel the same as the OP that I might never get to these, but doesn't stop me from enjoying the time. The game shouldn't been seen as 'well I can't get that ship so I wont have fun'. Bigger ship doesn't mean more fun, neither does more credits. To put it another way, even though I might drive a '63 VW Beetle doesn't mean I don't enjoying driving... but also doesn't stop me from dreaming of a Porsche lol :)

you'll find -- as I have -- that there's a few of people in here that are really unhelpful, and take the game (yes, it's a game) way, way too seriously.
For the most part , though, a lot of people here are extremely helpful. I just started the game last week, and have increased my skills dramatically based mostly on the advice I've gotten from here. I'd just ignore the haters if I were you.

I think you should try and look at this game a little differently. I, like you, don't have a ton of time for this game (job and family... go figure). I think of this game more as a farming game, like the famville on android. I play a few hours a week, and in a few weeks save up enough for an upgrade. If I want instant gratification, I drop out and play Mech warrior (which is also great in it's own right, but doesn't have the long term feel that this game has).

anyway, if you're looking for this game to give you short term gratification, I think you're going to be disappointed. The game really isn't designed for that perspective.

Mining could use some love.

Well, each part of the game should give you something different. Traders get money. Bounty hunters get fun pew pew and explosions. Pirates get misery and pain, like they deserve. Explorers get pretty screenshots. Miners get... Rocks? I'm not sure what miners get.

Bottom line - when one profession takes up perks of another, it will unbalance the game, not make it better.

For your sake, I'm going to assume you're sarcastically taking jabs at the poor state of the game.

is this a game?

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/warthog/

I would say yes it is a game... but at the same time it is a really intense simulation and it takes hrs.... and hrs..... and hrs to master (its way to hardcore for me, but I respect it for what it is and would never demand it to be simplified just so someone like me who was not prepared to learn its mechanics could get some action).

edit... should have known someone would have beaten me to the DCS AC-10C comparison ;)

It is helpful.. im sorry but every game cant cater to every player.. I dont see people complaining that DCS A-10 needs to be re-worked for casual players.. it simply isnt for them.. i

Nothing nailed here. The game offers 3 career paths but only "servers" one. DCS A-10 is stright and does not support a specific part of the player community more than another one.
BIG difference.

And the relevance to the current discussion is?

No one is asking for the game to be made simpler or easier, people are asking for parity between the various in game roles, that's all.

That's because this is a game

It's a game that requires a bit of effort and dedication to receive the expensive ships. You could easily cruise around in a Cobra and do everything combat related. The core of the game is trading, that is your bread & Butter. Even when doing Combat in my Clipper I would still haul cargo enroute to new zones.

It's just laziness pure and simple, if you really get that bored heavy hauling, put some music on, the amount of albums I got through whilst space trucking. You don't have to sit there staring at your screen listening to the SC engine..

Anyway, I'm done with the thread, was just popping in to see the usual whinging going round in circles.. I put the effort in and have the rewards, now I can embark on doing whatever I want in game.

Why the Casual player needs anything bigger than a Cobra is beyond me. They (the bigger ships) need far too much hard work to maintain.

And by the way - Mining Rocks... Money for nothing!!!

Bigger ships? Big deal. Still the same WASD simulator, just with more hardpoints and a different (and usually more sluggish) flight model as the ships get bigger. Probably wouldn't be any more fun to fly around in an Anaconda than it is in an Eagle, since there's basically almost nothing to interact with.

What poor state of the game? It works for me (no bugs that I can see), and I'm enjoying it a lot. It does need to do better with mission content and mining, but I don't care about it at the moment as i'm focused on trade route discovery now, and find it interesting. Maybe later I'll care about missions and mining, but hopefully they'll fix it by then.

Really? I would say that is 1 area of complaint but the OP titled this thread that the game is NOT catering enough to the casual gamer.

I agree paying mining and exploration more will be a good thing, but that will still not cater to the casual gamer which is what the OP chose to title the thread about.
