ED - A Script Kiddie's Wet Dream

Normally, they would mysteriously disappear from the instance if they were scanned (by NPC or Player) or if interdicted.

And we didn't want to make it too obvious we were 'on to them', for fear it would drive them to Solo where we could not document their activities.

Fair enough (although I would have just sat there at the mail slot and scanned them for the lulz !

Umm don't you think that jumping on the forums and basically naming and shaming them - well the bots anyway - will force them into Solo or PG anyway?

They were not boosting Mahon PowerPlay; they were actively working against it by attempting to force a PowerPlay 'loss-making' system on to Mahon. ...
Ahh OK - that makes more "sense". Presumeably though they could act in a beneficial manner too? -- But yeah, doing it in open is probably just for the trolling...

Did you submit said evidence to FD or just jump on the forums with it?
The evidence was submitted to FDev in September. (It says at the start of the video that people here have been watching. Instructions to find that are on Page 9 of this thread.)

I'm afraid this won't go very far, but you have all my support against bots, I feel your pain and frustration in there.

What did they answer ?
The person who made the video and logged the ticket is trying to post here, but is not a regular poster and their first message is held awaiting moderation. I believe it was along the lines of 'we cannot comment on the outcome'.

That is what I assumed.

If any of you want a laugh look in the same places but for people complaining about being perma-banned.

FDEV do take action.

My faction has a PowerPlay and BGS tracker bot for Discord, but I didn't think there would be a bot for in-game... Doesn't seem to be a big issue at the moment it seems. Much of the videos look to be years old too.

I guess I can formally say "Wheeeee!", and just buzz around in the game now, knowing nothing matters. :)

Neither the forum, or Frontier, is going to change it's ways.

Guys.. need to stand back a little..

Is there any solid proof that the BGS or anything else was manipulated by this video? I haven't seen any..

Is there any solid proof that there was no player at the controls of the ships in the video?

You need solid proof before you can simply ban a player. 'We believe' is not enough.

I would agree it 'looks like' automation, especially the simply drive-trhu of the watching player.. But.. 'looks like' is not enough. If you got an email saying Hi CMDR, 'it looks like you were cheating' we've banned your account. You'd be ok with this?

Players are never going to have access to information that would definitively prove that the players in the videos are bots, but luckily players also are not the ones doing the banning. FDev should have access to all the data and be able to take appropriate action to what they see.

From the video, it certainly looks like these players are using bots and the video's creator seems to have monitored them extensively performing the same style of station departure and seen the effects on the BGS/PP in that system. It worries me that after they reported the issue, the bots allegedly disappeared for a month and then reappeared with twice the numbers.

Obviously FDev would never reveal this to the playerbase but I sincerely hope they continue to monitor and periodically check up on any account on the same IP address as a known (and previously infracted) cheater. Humans don't tend to change that much, if they did it once, they'll likely try to find a way to do it again.

I don t judge the content of the video but I saw some players doing 10-12 hours of bgs everyday non stop.
Are human bots forbidden ?

Yep, I was involved in the creation of multiple programs for FS using MS provided API and IPV DLL, Built an entire server based Cockpit, with multiple Displays all linked to the one sim. I'm ignorant alright.

I didn't say you were ignorant, I literally quoted a previous post by you, where you were calling someone else ignorant, there were quotes round it. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?p=6519026&viewfull=1#post6519026

I don't ever remember posting anything about building a bot. I could certainly do it, and without the log files too. But I haven't.

You said : "I'm currently working on a planetary lander and POI marker system with auto pilot. " https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...-s-Wet-Dream?p=6517306&viewfull=1#post6517306

I started this morning, and had a webserver coded and running by lunchtime, feeding information from the logs to a separate display. Tomorrow, I'll add the GPS positioning advice to that display. That the player can heed or ignore. How that can be considered a 'bot' is beyond me, but hey, you're the expert.

I'm just plain ignorant.

Again, I didn't say you were ignorant.

At least there you won't fear what you wrote say !

Ok, I see where you might have got the 'bot' idea. A planetary lander is nothign like a 'bot' to me. What the other guys here are chatting about are bots or suspected bots. A bit of software that tells you what course you 'should' be flying is hardly a bot (I accept opinions differ)

Let me discuss a little more detail. You have a 2nd monitor. On it is running a couple of guages. One for GPS, another monitoring your position in the galaxy. You warp into LHS154a and it immediatly tells you there are 4 POIs in this system. It tells you where they are. You plot to the first and enter planetary sequnce. It tells your current lat/lng/hdg and where the POi is, and the course you should plot, and the expected time of arrival.

You arrive at another planet and find a downed beacon, with comodities scattered around. You turn to the POI guage and click 'store'. It immediately stores your Lat/Lng/Planet/System etc, for use in #1 above the next time you visit.

Those kind of things/abilities to me (again opinions may differ) are what enhance something that you like to spend time in/with.

The bit that irks me, is people making blanket statements without knowing what exactly is being proposed. And people who are for nothingm ore than to protect their little corner without due consideration to other players. We see it all the time on these boards; 'dont like it leave', 'well it works for me, you must be an idiot'. I remember saying there were networking issues with the game a long time ago, and all I got was, 'works for me', 'check your broadband', 'check your cable', 'check your PC' blah blah blah. The next update provided a fix to the networking issues.

Anyways that's irrelevant. I want the game to be successful, I have many many hours invested in it and indeed a lot of money invested in the rig I built to play it and the rift system.

Anyways, back to coding <o

In all this there are so many questions. if someone was to use a bot to extensively manipulate the BGS/PP systems, why on earth would they do it in open?

It also occurs to me, that the time investment needed to track and punish would be a huge limiting factor for FDev.

As for banning based on IPs.. There are ways and means to cheat at everything, IP hiding is just the beginning..
