ED and the Oculus Rift Developers Kit 2 (DK2) Discussion Thread

Managed to get a rid of 95% of my judder issues dropping everything and playing with different Vsync, frame buffering (think thats the term) etc, and now smooth, its just the blur (double image) that I cant shake, still playable, just feels abit naff with that.

Edit: Missed a few pages with some solutions to this!

Is there a program that will give you all the info of what your monitors refresh rates are, and how to tell what FPS the game is running at?

Fraps allows you to log your FPS while playing the game.
Saves a file into your Fraps folder where you installed it.

Double image could be related to your IPD setup.
Try running through the IPD setup in the OR config utility
Alternatively look the settings file for E: D that contains the IPD and FOV and set them manually.
I'm at work so can't check what it's called.

Smearing could be that you've got the DK2 set at 60hz rather than 75hz and low persistence isn't kicking in. Read the posts for the last few pages where I talk about your monitor refresh rate and how to get it to 75hz to match the DK2. Double check it says 75hz in the E: D Graphics settings when you've got the DK2 enabled too.

Oculus Rift DK2 - Galaxy Map / Menus

Hi

I've had my DK2 now for a couple of weeks and it works well in Elite Dangerous. There are a couple of issues I've spotted though, the main one being in the galactic map I when I hover the curser over the system it doesn't display any information.

The other is the graphics are a bit pixelie, I just bought a 780ti and hoped this would improve them but although the FPS is much better and thus the latency on head tracking is pretty much gone some of the menus and other text is hard to read.

Don't get me wrong the DK2 is awesome in this game!! I'm absolutely loving it but was wondering if any one had any fixes for the above or are they known issues?

Thanks

If it's at the center of the monitor (primary display) It's not showing on my rift (secondary display) in extended mode.

Not sure what you mean... When you decide what info you want the Playclaw to display, you get the choice of moving it around the screen. When you open ED on the rift ( with Playclaw running in the background ) it will show the info automatically in game.

If i want to copilot somebody through the elite riftverse, what's the best way to display what in the rift in extended mode on the main screen?

Not for me it doesn't. When I select what I want show, drag it to the center of the monitor, launch ED, and I see nothing in the rift. It's only showing on the primary display.

Have you tried changing the options in E: D in the graphic settings so that it uses the DK2 (secondary?) rather than your monitor?

Cheers will try the settings issue,
And yep been following the last few pages, and got some tips on sorting the refresh rate, it' set as 75hz in the graphics options, =]

Has anyone had any success at downsampling in ED? I'm running a GTX770 with the DK2, game on the whole is smooth as silk with only a little bit of judder (which will hopefully be fixed with the next set of Oculus/ED optimizations). Refresh rate is locked at 75Hz in ED options, so all in all my sole disappointment so far is with EDs resolution.

In my ED graphics options the maximum resolution I can set is 1920x1080. However via NVIDIA control panel I've created a custom resolution of 2560x1440 which now appears in my ED graphics options. After trying it and comparing it to the native 1920x1080 resolution I can't see any discernible difference. Does downsampling even work in ED or is the resolution simply down to the DK2s hardware limitations?

I never had a DK1 so can't compare how much improved the DK2 is over the earlier dev kit in regards to resolution.

Down sampling from 2560 x 1440 works great resolution wise, but currently halves my framerate to about 35 fps! :p

Hard to say I know, but what's the gut feeling of all you DK2-ers?

What difference will an assumed jump to 2560x1440 resolution make to CV1 in your opinion? Sure there will be a multitude of other tweaks too.

Will it be good enough for your average punter? Will the resolution jump be significant enough?
