I only get Anaglyph or Side by Side.
Sort the portrait flipped thing and set your resolution to 1080p and try again. If still not working try the instructions in the message.

OK, set to 1920x1080 and selected Portrait flipped. Rift display is right way up.
I have followed the instructions in the message and I still get no oculus choices in the 3D menu.
Is it actually displayed on the rift when you see these options or on the monitor?
If on the monitor select the DK2 as the display and click apply.
If you still can't see the options restart the game and try again, make sure the game displays on the rift when it starts then try it again.
If it still doesn't work try a PC restart.
On the rift.
Done.
Restarted game, which automatically started on Rift, no Oculus option.
Restarted with a power off in between, no Oculus in 3D list.
:/
Finally got a go on my rift Sunday night before going to work. Got it to work ok just need to sort setting levels out. One thing I did notice was if I brought a esc menu up it was off set to the left and I had to lean to the left to read it as it was off centre quite a bit. Is that normal with the rift?
This is bizarre. I get those options even when my Rift isn't connected! Reinstall Elite?OK, set to 1920x1080 and selected Portrait flipped. Rift display is right way up.

I don't care what you believe; jittery headtracking is 100% due to running the game at anything other than vnsynced 75fps.Oculus on this game verses others. I found this games Oculus support lacking really. Alien Isolation that has graphics on par with Elite runs smooth as silk on my DK2 at 1080p 75hz, however Elite has some major head tracking issues... It's just too jittery, if I dont move my head everything is smooth so I dont believe its a frame rate issue. I can even lower everything to low and set res to 720p and the head track does not change at all, if this was a frame issue I should of seen some major changes there. My PC will play this game on a display (2D) at 720p 120hz at 120fps, everything cranked. So I believe they got a bit of work to do for the Oculus to be the great experience we all hope it to be on this game. It's still possible that it my video card, but unlikely as I've seen others complaining about it too and they have far better video cards than I. This game is graphicly amazing but it isnt so much so that it should really tax any modern video card so much so...
Just wanted to say thanks for all the research you guys have done and help provided, received my Rift yesterday and although there were issues, having been following this thread for the past 2 months I was prepared for all that it threw at me and it's now working perfectly!
Cheers!
Cheers for the advice. I was worried about putting glasses on as I'd heard they may scratch the lenses. Also, the DK1 came with "B" cup lenses as well, whereas you just get "A" and "C" with the DK2.
What's the point of the slider in the config utility to match it to the position of the "comfort" screw that moves the lenses fore and aft?
And one final question, what are your key in-game settings and do you bother with Nvidia CP settings? Is there any point with AA for instance with a low res display?
OK, try this.
Shut the game down.
Open this file C:\Users\YOU USERNAME HERE\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics\Settings.xml
Look for this line and set it like this
<StereoscopicMode>3</StereoscopicMode>
or like this
<StereoscopicMode>4</StereoscopicMode>
Save the file.
Start the game.
It's basically forcing the game to use the Oculus Rift 3D separation option.
If that doesn't work open this file
C:\Users\YOU USERNAME HERE\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics\displaysettings.xml
Make sure these lines are like this
<ScreenWidth>1920</ScreenWidth>
<ScreenHeight>1080</ScreenHeight>
<VSync>true</VSync>
<FullScreen>true</FullScreen>
Save the file.
Repeat this in case it's set it back to 0,1 or 2 again.

If you're still having issues copy and paste what's in those two files into a message and send it across and I'll see if I can spot what is wrong.

I haven't managed to keep up with everything, but you're using extend mode right? Is your rift you primary or secondary display according to Windows?
1. I have recently bought a new system, GTX 780ti and a i7 4770k processor, you guys think it will run ED smoothly, i mean, now i can´t play anything below 60hz /frames per second, i know DK2 runs at 75hz, even better, but anybody here can play at that refresh rate with a similar rig without lowering ED settings too much?
I don't care what you believe; jittery headtracking is 100% due to running the game at anything other than vnsynced 75fps.
made no difference, elite just starts with 3d set to off.
Yep, extended mode. I did try with direct mode and the 3d options aree there... so it is something to do with elite not detecting the presence of the rift when in extended mode. Rift is set to secondary.
The slider in the config tool to match the comfort screws slightly alters the algorithm that separates the colours to compensate for the lens curve. Try and keep it the same and theoretically you'll see less chromatic aberration (colour separation).
I'll be honest, people on here go on and on about supersampling but it literally makes sod all difference on the Rift. Don't waste gpu on it! If you like, experiment using the in game options. Park up somewhere, have a good look at your cockpit menus. Head into options, enable the different AA options. See if you can see a difference. I can't.
I wasted an hour of my life trying to get it to 'work', but it doesn't, no matter what I try (even super sampling via nVidia control panel was useles).
What does happen, though, is that your eyes adjust pretty quickly and your brain will fill in the gaps more and more.
