OP - Calling am update disappointing based on four bits of info a whole year before you actually play it is a bit of a stretch, don't you think?
Personally I will reserve my judgement until then.
If you like bombastic promises over actual content, go try that other game that should be out any time, now.
OMG did you think of that original retort all by yourself or did you ask mommy to help you?
The problem (for me at least) Babelfisch is that right now, it's vapourware. We've been hearing these ideas since the funding started. I at least keep getting dissapointed after every release. We get delivered a buggy release which then takes them [fdev] weeks/months to fix.
And none of it joins up! Example: 2.4; Released with galactically stupid bugs which required emergency rework to fix. We're now on the 4th patch of 2.4 and still there are glaringly huge bugs with it.
2.3: MultiCrew, still buggy
The simple fact that the roadmap is based on reworking 'core' game issues, highlights how bad it actually is.
And the fact remains; What exactly will they deliver? Will it work? Will it be joined up?
I really would love to answer yes to those; but.. From what I've seen, they're not capable it. I know, I know, do it myself blah blah. But then, I'm not 'paying' myself am I?
How about I explain it a different way.
Some People don't have faith in FD because of the way they have previously delivered updates (i.e. bare bones and/or badly designed). Look at things like Power play/Multicrew as examples.
The list of things FD have announced while good do not do enough to improve the game even if they are developed really really well and add rich game play (which going off past history won't be the case, they'll be bare bones).
ED has that many flaws that the provided information is insufficient. ED needs root and branch reworking of core game play not just tinkering around the edges.
So based on the information provided and the past history of FD regards ED it should be understandible that some people are disappointed in Beyond even though they haven't played it yet.
If I had just been using normal, every day irony you would have probably caught it. As it was, my irony module is modded to g5 with some god rolled secondaries so it went sailing over your head.

MAIN POST UPDATED.
So, this got quite a few clicks, replies and people off.
Also alot of people +1 me, (far more than the amount of zealous defenders in the following thread), so i am not alone stating that "Blaze your way" should be charged with "false advertisement" and renamed to "Grind your way".
I have removed and reorganized the content of this post, so it, hopefully, shows better what i mean and removed the "rant" away.
1. Combat
- single building block present
- CZ/RES/crime sweep is the same renamed instance
- no higher goal nor scenarios/defences/invasions/battlegrounds, just chaotic 1v1 ship grind.
- theres alot of existing mmos showing what can be done to change tech-demo into a campaign that keeps the player having fun
- combat gets boring as it looks exactly the same, single aircarft or wing farming endlessly for claims/coupons/cash
2. Trade
- clicking a slider and jumping between stations
- to ease the grind, people use third party tools to find the best trade route
3. Exploration
- some find it fun
- after scanning N plantets in X systems you have seen everything.
4. Engineers
- no alternative gamestyles, just +% upgrades
- easily recogniezed as the new base powerlevel
- no "options" in the end, more grind to unlock, grind to get mats, grind to get good rolls
- a supposed "fix" - change the lower limit to the current roll - not a fix for anything
5. Magic material storage
- why 1000?
- why teleporting between ships?
- just a lot of why's...
6. Powerplay
- dead.
7. Community goals
- more grind, just a single "scenario" (material transfer/bounties)
- each one revolving around people doing space-trucking
8. Guardians
- one mission that is done by 0.00001% of community on their own
- 1% (maybe) did it with printed out cheatsheets
9. Thargoids
- awesome idea
- game is lacking content
- thargoids have nothing to interfere with as players are either farming red ships in CZ or shoving cargo over.
10. Mining
- limpet design, insanely cumbersome "make 200 tonnes of limpets into 200 tonnes of cargo"
- prospector limpet role design, leads to even greater limpet cargo hold needed
- better than trading - a minigame
- with current rewards, has no impact on the game itself, like petbattles in wow (except pet battles in wow has more content than entire ED)![]()
11. Flying - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/384871-Blaspheming-against-the-flight-model
- any explanation for maximal speed limits on ships?
- acceleration should be used instead (of max speed) when a more agile ship has to outrun a bigger ship
- yaw/roll/pitch on some ships make no sense. theres no sane explanation for a space craft to have different speeds there
12. People are watching NETFLIX while playing your game and claim they are having fun.
13. Ship design
- why most ppl fly pythons / anacondas?
- there are some niche ships but largely ignored (or treated like stepping stone for python/anaconda/cutter/corvette)
- module sizes are broken. If we take x2 modifier based on cargo racks sizes then it quickly gets ridiculous when you try to estimate the efficiency of given module in regards to its size.
- how much aircraft space does a ADS needs? Size-1. Why big ships have modules sizes down to 3. Unable to split them, leading to a fun situation when a giant craft like cutter can choose between docking computer OR ads but not both, coz there is no space.
14. Ranking with empire/federation
- people complain about loosing sanity when they want to reach the big2 "fast"
- "slow" way means "never", at least for me. (missions are repetitive, restarting in a new system for a new rankup mission feels like a slap)
- no incentive to go thru this grind other than the ships... but even then, anaconda is still pretty good, so why bother.
15. Right now the best way to experience this game is to watch ObsidianAnt's videos.
My main pain with ED is that in a world of possibilities to choose from we got a game that is bare bones with questionable design choices.
Fixes might be coming, eg mining fix is scheduled to happen in q4 next year.
Initially i was making fun of Star citizen, but now im not sure whats better: release a full but incredibly dull grind game, or release modules that are playable, albeit very very short.
Thanks! Fly safe.
Keep that up and Dale's going to send both of us to the naughty room. And trust me, you do not want to be stuck in the naughty room with me.
A peeing contest in space is a bit pointless anyway ....I'm all for feedback, and in fact I actively invite it. The topic has almost derailed a few times now, so please take a moment to consider your post and if it's not discussing the contents of the OP or offering a counterpoint to the feedback that's been raised there... perhaps don't post it? We don't need to know who can pee the furthest or whose view holds the most validity... it just takes away from productive discourse.
Depending on the size of X, possibly. But I am willing to wager that X in this case isn't a big number. happy to be proven wrong.3. Exploration

Checkmate
Well, he saw a chessboard. It's what's Rorschach is about innit?Yeah - that's the wrong thing to say to someone with Rorschach as their avatar![]()
To a certain extent you are correct, but you missed out surface installation assaults which are great fun. But I agree that Combat zones and Res site need reworking.MAIN POST UPDATED.

Again, if all you do is trade, then yes it can get boring. I have never used third party tools, I enjoy looking out for opportunities when they come about. Also trade will be getting an update.2. Trade
- clicking a slider and jumping between stations
- to ease the grind, people use third party tools to find the best trade route
Yes exploration has become dire. I could live with the jump and honk before the beigeifation of everything, but right know, I don't bother. Thankfully, the planets are going to be much more interesting in Q1 of next year, and exploration mechanic are going to get a complete overhaul in a years time.3. Exploration
- some find it fun
- after scanning N plantets in X systems you have seen everything.
While you can grind to unlock them, you don't have to. I just did stuff I enjoyed which unlocked stuff anyway. Engineers are optional for me, so see no need to grind engineers out.4. Engineers
- no alternative gamestyles, just +% upgrades
- easily recogniezed as the new base powerlevel
- no "options" in the end, more grind to unlock, grind to get mats, grind to get good rolls
- a supposed "fix" - change the lower limit to the current roll - not a fix for anything
I don't mind materials being transfered between ships, surely you would want them on the ship you are using. As to storage, I would like Data to be much higher and saveable on ship destruction (there are copies on an HD in your escape pod), but the other physical materials are lost. But to supplement the physical materials, you can store them at a materials broker/bank in a station with a much larger storage capacity which you can take out at any station with a broker.5. Magic material storage
- why 1000?
- why teleporting between ships?
- just a lot of why's...
Agreed, needs a lot of work to make it worthwhile6. Powerplay
- dead.
I participate at times but not all the time. Of course, just like anything else in the game it can be a grind if that is all you do.7. Community goals
- more grind, just a single "scenario" (material transfer/bounties)
- each one revolving around people doing space-trucking
I enjoyed that mission, but I agree, it could be better with other faction scientists wanting certain information for their own research. I find it difficult to believe that only one scientist want to know about the guardians.8. Guardians
- one mission that is done by 0.00001% of community on their own
- 1% (maybe) did it with printed out cheatsheets
I have nothing against it at the moment. I have entered one of the USS and enjoyed it. I didn't attack it, but it had ago at me. Some are enjoying it a lot.9. Thargoids
- awesome idea
- game is lacking content
- thargoids have nothing to interfere with as players are either farming red ships in CZ or shoving cargo over.
Agreed mining needs to get better. It is thankfully in a years time.10.
1. A newtion flight model is boring IMHO. There are network issues, that is the reason for a max speed. You will find that Star Citizen will have the same.11. Flying - https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/384871-Blaspheming-against-the-flight-model

I am not and have never watched netflix while playing. To be honest, I really can't fathom how they do it.12. People are watching NETFLIX while playing your game and claim they are having fun.
My main ship is a DBX. I have only just got a python after 3 years. It a nice looking ship, but not sure if it will become my main ship. I am sure I will use just like I use my Cobra mk3 and 4 and my Dolphin and the other ships I have available. But as to the most popular ship, I am pretty sure it is the AspX.13.

Then don't do it. I have ranked up without even trying. Nothing forces you to rank up or get those ships. The ranking system can certainly be improved upon though to make it more fun an interesting.14. Ranking with empire/federation
- people complain about loosing sanity when they want to reach the big2 "fast"
- "slow" way means "never", at least for me. (missions are repetitive, restarting in a new system for a new rankup mission feels like a slap)

Nope, not for me. I prefer it live it in my Oculus Rift.15. Right now the best way to experience this game is to watch ObsidianAnt's videos.
The is exactly why FDev are improving the core gameplay element of the game to make them a far better experience. My main pain with ED is that in a world of possibilities to choose from we got a game that is bare bones with questionable design choices.
Fixes are coming, whether they are the fixes you want is another question.Fixes might be coming, eg mining fix is scheduled to happen in q4 next year.
Or release a game that gives you options on how you go about your game. Nothing is forced on you, you can make it as interesting and enjoyable as you want to. That is down to you, Fdev give you the tools, how you use them is up to you. It seems to me that some are trying the play the game like a traditional MMORPG, where you need to level up to get to the next exciting part of the story. In ED, there is no real progression apart from the one you choose it to be. There is no end game. There are no end game ships. People concentrate on the goal that they have given themselves instead of thinking about the journey. But that is up to you how you go about it. For me the journey is all important, so I do not grind for any of my goals, I let them come to me instead by doing stuff that I enjoy. And what is better is that there will be more stuff I enjoy when the updated mechanics turn up (hopefully).Initially i was making fun of Star citizen, but now im not sure whats better: release a full but incredibly dull grind game, or release modules that are playable, albeit very very short.
Thanks! Fly safe.
Well, he saw a chessboard. It's what's Rorschach is about innit?
While it's clearly two black kids in white shorts playing patty cake.
