Once we get EDDI straightened out with ED 2.4 we'll be able to have a breather and look into more advanced stuff like this.

Just so you are aware, the three of us, all reasonably experienced and well-coordinated, are giving EDDI quite a bit of our free time. I've no idea how jgm managed on his own. My team-mates are great.
 
So I'm on version 2.4.0-b3. Is this the latest version? And if so, how did I get it? I didn't download any of the ones from the site Vertical Blank listed. It just said a new version was available so I just upgraded.

Yes that's the latest beta. (2.3.1 is the latest non-beta.)
Sounds like you had beta versions enabled and auto-updated?
 
Yes. There's some very good documentation out there, and it (mostly) works in Voice Attack.

But I also totally understand it not being a priority. In fact it might be easier to go option two and have things pass back into VoiceAttack for all I know.

I'm not a Voice Attack user but others on the dev team are. My understanding is that EDDI is indeed supplying VA with the variables it needs. If that's not the case then do please file specific bug reports here or on the GitHub

my eddi isn't working so i came here for the news. i got 2.3.1. (Frontier API connection not operational)
so the api for all kinds of tools is broken, a fix need time. a speed up as well as a cheer up for us might be that frontier add this specific issue to their known issues list of 2.4

From what I understand the API is down at the FDEV end, and they are aware of the issue.
This tends to happen with every major ED update.

As in, EDDI can see what system I'm in from the journal, then pass all the information about that system as variables to VoiceAttack?

The way it's set up by default, EDDI reads the responses directly. If, instead, it could pass back something like %startype% or whatever, I could solve my own problem. :)

If by startype you mean the starclass like O,B,A,M etc it already does. When you engage the FSD the
VA-variable {TXT:EDDI fsd engaged stellarclass} is filled with the class of the star you're jumping to.

Unfortunately EDDI is completely broken on my end upon the 2.4 release! I had 20+ crashes on diferente manners which i never had! So i end up removing the plugin for the time been which makes my ED experience very crippled. I hope there's an update/fix looming @ the near future! o7

I'm sorry to hear that, and a little surprised at it's been very stable here. I suggest going back to 2.3.1 for the time being in that case.
 
EDDI 2.4 beta 4 is now available from GitHub or via the auto-updater.

Work in progress release.
Please note that at the time of writing, the Frontier API is down. Frontier are aware of the problem but don't yet have an ETA for fixing it. While the API is down EDDI will be unable to access market data, but most remaining functions still work.

  • Core
    • Revised EDDI's methods for detecting in-game betas
  • Events
    • Fixed a bug that would cause the 'Ship transfer initiated' event to be silent
    • 'Community goal' event - refined the default script, it'll (probably) be coherent now :)
  • Speech Responder
    • 'Community goal' event - fixed a bug that was causing EDDI to describe every goal twice
    • 'Ship transfer initiated' event - revised to include both the transfer cost and the time to arrival
    • Script changes
      • If you scan without a DSS, the 'Body Report' script no longer falsely claims that all bodies are unsuitable for landing
      • 'Module swapped event' - revised script to better handle swapping to an empty slot
 
Somewhere down the line of updates EDDI all of sudden goes through all my friends and tells me they are online when I first start the game. I can not find where to shut this off. Can someone please help?

If you open the Speech Responder tab in EDDI, you can disable the 'Friends status' script by unchecking the applicable box (if you are using the default personality, you'll need to make a copy of the personality to be able to check and uncheck these boxes). That said, the script is designed to be easily modified to alert you about certain friends only (a whitelist) or to alert you for all except certain friends (a blacklist).

A little desired fix =)

If I set a material/data desired level to 0, meaning I do not want any of them, and ask EDDI how many of that material that I need, it tells me that "You have not set any level for <material/data>". I want it to say zero =)
