EDDiscovery 18.X is now out. Modules panel upgrades and Engineering

I believe you can limit it by date as well, only load the last X months of data.

That is different data, separate from the star systems database that @robbyp was referring to regarding limiting the sectors with systems stored.

I already limit the date range of the history to be read and also limited the data types to just "all entries for statistics" - and still get quite a delay in starting up EDD - no problem, I just load EDD and let it do its thing while I sort out stuff. (There is a lag when changing commanders but that is not too long.)

Database is v.large now. Limit it using the settings page to select what sectors you want to store. Or turn it off. An SSD is recommended.
Will this have an adverse effect using EDD on an account which is out in the Heironymous Delta? I have accounts only in the bubble and one out there in the black so if I restrict to just the bubble what are the drawbacks for the exploration commander?
There is a lot of data now to process...

So what would be the drawback to my exploration account if I restricted the sectors in EDD to the extended bubble for example? - Just nearest stars list empty or bigger issues?

One other thought: Since, as you say, there is a lot of data now to process, has any thought been given to a pared-back EDD "lite" version at all?

Nearest stars list empty, stars you've not visited not being on the 3D map or the local system maps, route plotter not knowing where stars are, various drop downs for system name (e.g. Exploration panel) only knowing about systems you've visited. EDSM data in the scan panel is fetched on demand so that'll be fine.

For a "lite" version just trim the EDSM data download right back and trim the journal entries actually held in memory and used in the settings panel. 7 days of jumps only is going to be fairly light.

Release 11.2.1 is out.. We have worked on the star distance panel to try and prevent it hogging the database when your in the bubble.
.....

Whatever you have done has made a huge difference, really much quicker to start up and changing commanders is hugely quicker. Thanks very much for this. (y)

So, on the nearest stars panel, and you set a very large distance, it was grabbing hundreds of thousands of stars from the DB (takes a while) and then throwing away all but 500.

It now looks up the the max distance you have set, but if it hits the 500 display limit, it scales back internally the distance so next time it does not grab so many. This reduces disk churn.

I thought about that a few times before but with the EDSM database getting so large something has to be done.

The 3dmap is going to be reworked for the same reason - there is just too many stars now.

Future note for searches. I had trouble installing it.

It returns "Server returned unexpected error 1632 attempting to install package" message.

Lots of space on install, lots of space in temp, windows 10.

Turns out it was because the directory c:\windows\installer didn't exist (for some reason). So made a new directory and it install fine now.

I just recently updated EDD after quite some time of not exploring and noticed how big the database is and how long the 3D map takes to build now.
Is there a way i can speed up this process, as previously i have used it as a guide to where to move in game by a lack of stars in a certain direction on the 3d map.
