Seems to be working OK now - ian666 in another forum said EDSM was being slow to respond - now it looks OK.

I've noticed numerous times where EDSM will have body data but it won't show up in EDD and I always have the button toggled on. If that's because of slow response from EDSM maybe the timeout should be changed or EDD should retry.

Last night I also encountered a weird desync. I think it was Cyoidai WY-S d3-0 where EDD and EDSM were showing different info--EDD had the star and planet 1, and EDSM had the star and one of the other bodies. I went ahead and did a full system scan because of that. (well, maybe I skipped some moons..)

I never knew there are two threads, which one is the one Finwen reads?

Please for the love of god remove the (FD)* before the system name. This field was the only one where you could copy the system name without any other hassle and now there is one too.

Please for the love of god remove the (FD)* before the system name. This field was the only one where you could copy the system name without any other hassle and now there is one too.

The other one is the one in the 3rd Party app sub-forum that the help menu in app takes you to.

There are members of the development team watching both of them - not sure what puts that "(FD)*" there - I'll have a look and see what it's supposed to mean. Maybe do a 'copy system name to clipboard' button if it's removal would take away something useful.

Hi everyone. I have a problem with matherials sorting in field filter. I've tried to filter out all planets with iron matherial on surface. I've checked "scan" in first field, then "Matherials", then "Not Contains (CS)" and typed "Iron" in last field. Also, tried different variants like "Not Contains", "Iron (Fe)". Nothing works. Can anyone help me with correct filter?

Hi guys. i'll be appreciated for any help with composing the filter.

Today I downloaded version 10.0.3.0 , And I keep getting ` Error sending EDSM events Commander name / API Key not found ` , Any concern of just ignore?

Is this normal?
ED Discovery is taking a FULL 3 minutes to start up, during which time it is completely unresponsive. I can't even minimize it to get it out of the way while it finishes starting.
Switching pilot profiles also takes a full 2 minutes.
Once it starts, it is stable and operates perfectly.

ED Discovery is installed on, and my databases are located on an SSD, so disk IO should not be a problem.
EDDUser.sqlite is ~122MB , EDDiscovery.sqlite is ~1.47GB , EDDSystem.sqlite is ~5.02GB
I've been using EDD since May 2016 and have over 73,500 entries on my main commander and 45,721 on my alt.
Should I do a "Delete/Rebuild System DB" ?

Skip to 3:00 to see it finally become responsive.

You might also notice that the program queues user input during this time, which (IMHO) is usually a bad idea.
I'm still on voice pack 6 because I have it highly customized and I don't want to do it all over again.

p.s. After backing up my data, I tried a "Delete/Rebuild System DB". It did not help.

Probably a completely separate issue from yours, but I discovered that one of the main causes of EDD "hanging" for me was due to screenshots. I have a tendency to rapid-fire the screenshot buttons, because I play in VR and can't see the edges of the frame. I move my head around slightly and take the screenshot about 6 or 8 times. Then, I might move the camera and do it again, perhaps from several different angles. This quickly builds up a backlog of images that need to be re-encoded, since I have EDD converting to PNG for me. During this time, the program appears to be frozen. If I kill EDD and restart it, it picks up again and keeps processing those images. This is fine, I just didn't know what was happening at first. Once I figured it out, I realized I could just wait for it to finish.

Have you taken a lot of screenshots that it's trying to process?

Screenshots process quickly. I always run EDD while playing so unprocessed screenshots don't accumulate.
I did just clean out old screenshots that have already been processed so the source and destination folders are empty, and it didn't change anything.

When switching profiles between my main and my alt, it takes less time to switch to my alt. Which makes sense if it has to do with the amount of data, since my alt has far less data.

I don't see anything like that performance on my 270k journal entries. Have you checked Task Manager to see what it's doing (CPU/disc/inexplicably hanging)?

Are there any errors in the trace logs (\AppData\Local\EDDiscovery\Log\)?

CPU is ~3% at startup. Disk IO is minimal.
Memory use starts out at ~475MB but every time I switch user profiles it grows.
I was switching back and forth to watch the performance metrics and after switching 3 or 4 times, memory grew to over 1.4GB
Looks like a memory leak

Large memory footprint is expected, we hold all the journals in memory at the minute so I sit on ~1GB normally with my 270k entries (we might have to change that soon)

I can see it going up if I switch back and forth between commanders in the same way - looks like it has multiple copies of the journals for a while but - at least for me - it falls back to normal fairly quickly, as the excess ones get garbage collected.

I don't see anything untoward in the trace log. Hmm.

In 10.1 I am planning a 'only load essential entries older than X months old'. This will reduce memory load. Essential items will be all the ship buys sells fsd etc etc. I have a 400k journal log to experiment on...

Strange. This morning it was starting up in 14 seconds and switching profiles in 10 seconds. Is this the normal time it takes?
But unfortunately after a fresh reboot of my PC, it's back to 2-3 minutes to start.

I tried shutting down everything else on the PC including antivirus and excluding ED Discovery folders from Windows Defender.
There's nothing else active on the PC and nothing fighting for disk IO or CPU time.

I thought it might be a network issue waiting for EDSM or something but that wouldn't explain why it was fine and then slow right after rebooting just a few minutes later.

Depends on journal volumes but yeah, that kind of ball park. My extra journals take my start up closer to 30s than 15s but broadly similar.

Not sure what would be causing it to occasionally be good and mostly bad.
